Some of my favorite films are when the bad guys win: Fight Club, Seven, Social Network, and also non-Fincher films like The Dark Knight and The Empire Strikes Back. Fincher is awesome!!
*_@jasonge635,_*_ if it wasn't about Fincher, I would think you were talking about KUBRICK. Plus, in the 70's the World realized how many shots Stanley Kubrick used to do, and it felt unusual, different, new and even almost shocking. But, in the last three decades, who doesn't make many and many shots?_
Actually Fincher's camera almost always moves. He just makes it so subtle that we don't notice. Film students even study his technique where the camera operator follows the movements of the character. When a character sits down the camera moves down and when the character rises the camera also moves up. It's a synchronize movement that takes a number of takes before getting the perfect shot.
It’s fair to note that David fincher doesn’t write his movies, but he does have say in editing, vfx, lighting, and obviously cinematography. Even though he doesn’t write them he chooses the scripts.
Although he doesn't write them, it seems he has a pretty big influence on the script. The making-of of The Social Network suggests this; in it, you see how he challenges the dialogue of none other than Aaron Sorkin. Together with the actors and the writer, he's trying to make the script as concise as possible. Maybe he didn't have that much creative control in his earlier work, but nowadays he most certainly has.
David Fincher is probably my favourite director. I watch your videos and I genuinely can not believe that it is free to watch. I feel like i am getting a college level of education. Thank you!!!
I think David Fincher is my favorite filmmaker. How he made his movies is sooo impressive. I mean he works on every details, he made everything to delivered something of quality. You feel that he cares.
Love learning about directors styles. Do more indie directors: Alex Garland, Ari Aster, Robbert Eggers, Sean Baker, Jeremy Saulnier. Also a feature on female directors would also be amazing
The Game rarely gets any attention, but deserves so, so much praise. Brilliant premise flawlessly executed in the Fincheriest way. It alone is a great sampling of everything you touched on - including music where he used Jefferson Airplane’s White Rabbit as the perfect finish to the film.
David Fincher is my favourite filmmaker. Not only has he made 4 films I have in my top 10 list, The Social Network being my favourite film, but he is also the filmmaker that has affected my wive and approach to filmmaking the most
I also love Fincher as a director, what makes him so great for me is that in my opinion he is the best story teller in Hollywood. He's so good at taking time to show the characters and who they are, his movies aren't too long but he's also never rushing.
I love how this channel, in parallel of other channels, this one really talk with emotions and you can really hear the love of cinema in the voice of the narrator.
Please include directing styles of directors from other countries too like Korea, India, Iran. You people are doing such a good job, make it more global. We would like to have analysis of the work of Majid Majidi, Satyajit Ray, Sanjay leela Bhansali, Bong Joon Ho

Makes me sad that he hasnt received any oscars, despite him making fight club, se7en, gone girl, etc. While tarantino received an oscar just for making pulp fiction :(
Excellent Video. Really enjoyed the smooth calm voice of the narrator while watching finchers art of directing & composing. Great stuff- keep going. 👍🏻
Man, I fell in love with fincher films before even knowing who fincher was. I always noticed how his movies became my favourites because of the look, feel and story. Zodiac, Social network, Gone girl, house of cards all have such a similar look and vibe to it.
Yeah just like Ridley Scott, he has a very unique visual style which really makes his films standout from the crowd. Fun fact: Fincher got his start doing music videos in the mid 80’s. Checkout Rick Springfield’s “Celebrate Youth”, Paula Abdul’s “ Cold Hearted Snake” & Aerosmith’s “Janies Got a Gun & you’ll see some similar uses of lightning, shadows & camera angles.
@@StudioBinder I really like the surprising plot-twists, like in The Game, Fight Club, Seven, Gone Girl, etc... unfortunately you can only be surprised once, he is one of the directors that really opened my mind to films as a work of art instead of just entertainment. You should do more of these, I'd really love to see Kubrick, Scorcese, Nolan, Tarantino and Wes Anderson... if someday I do anything half as good as those guys I know I've made it.
