  • In this Tackle Tip Tuesday video, Caleb Sumrall Fishing explains a rule of thumb he uses when picking between fluorocarbon and braid. His go-to combination for thick cover is 50 or 65-pound braid meanwhile he will opt for fluorocarbon in most flipping applications when the cover is scattered and sparse.

    Would you still switch to the braids if you were fishing heavy cover( thinking heavy wood, more than weeds and pads) in extremely clear water or would you try to use fluorocarbon and maybe go to 25 lb. test?

      @@fishingwithej1963 I tend to agree with you but it seems like across-the-board if you look at all the pros the majority of them go with 50/65# braid...

      ​@russb296 just for punching I believe. Light punching or flipping probs braid to fluoro or straight fluoro

      i think 30 lb fluoro is more than enough for any cover and any situation.

    Grass use braid and wood use fluorocarbon simple.
