A number of people have asked if we'll do this again next year. I'm hesitant to make any promises, but we're definitely leaning towards doing so. There's no small amount of work involved, especially given that there are certain things we might want to do more deliberately if we did a SoME2. Stay tuned!

Although my video didn't enter the finalist, this event (SoME1) initiated my own math channel. That is the most important thing :) Thank you and look forward to SoME2 ! 😉✨🎉

Isn't uniformly choosing a random point in a circle (or in any geometric space > 0D) an impossible task without discretising it? (At least in a limited amount of time?)

the problem with it is less bad if you're better at getting bored of non-educational videos than you are with educational ones. unfortunately you need to know which is which. and unless you go looking you won't get shown how much more it could be showing you

I mean, it's pretty cool that lots of people made videos for this. But for many of them, these are their *only* videos. Most people are unlikely to subscribe to somebody who makes 1 good video, hoping for more, so many of these folks will just disappear again.
Come to think of it, I haven't been watching 3b1b from the start. I think maybe I started watching his stuff after he'd been at it for a year and had over a dozen videos (during the linear algebra series, probably, or maybe the calculus series).

Thanks to Grant, James, the guest judges (especially Tai-Danae Bradley, who's a huge inspiration), and all the peer judges. 3blue1brown, I have to say this:
With your contributions to Mathematics you will forever change the way Math will be taught and thought of. With your visual methods and those of all other great math youtubers, you make viewers and math enthusiasts understand topics that are seemingly impossible to grasp for the average brain. Aside your brilliant videos you have also brought the community closer together, unfolding the huge potential of all math creators on TH-cam and other platforms. Thanks to you I can already see a new golden age for Mathematics, something that would have taken decades longer without your ambitions.
You have also motivated lots of people to also share their contribution to Mathematics, making them feel more involved in research and also making us feel like scientists ourselves. I might consider making some TH-cam videos about Math as well thanks to you :)
Do not ever stop making these videos and I also ask you to make the competition an annual (or maybe even every 4 months) event to continue unfolding the entire potential of our brilliance.
Thank you 3blue1brown for all of your contributions!

I missed the contest! But I just watched the anouncement video the other day and I think it was the push I needed to finally flesh out that script I have in the back of my mind :)

This was an amazing contest! It has probably inspired so many new math explainers. You guys put a lot of effort into this, especially Leios.

I think my favorite part of this contest has been seeing how much it's changed my recommended videos! For all the issues I have with the TH-cam algorithm, it really is amazing to notice the shift in curation towards a much greater diversity of maths related channels. It's so exciting to log in and have my first thought be "Wow, these videos all look incredibly fascinating!" rather than "Who in their right mind would ever decide to watch this?"

It's wonderful seeing how well this competition achieved the goal of encouraging new maths exposition. My TH-cam suggestions have been full of it! The sheer quantity of such great work is unprecedented. Thanks for featuring my video.

I think something truly amazing about this whole thing that really should be mentioned is the fact that TH-cam recommended almost all of these videos to me, and the TH-cam algorithm rarely shows me so much content that I’m genuinely excited to watch. More events like this should be held, if not just for the side effect of TH-cam giving better recommendations.

What I find great is that I'd seen quite a few of these videos prior to your video. So obviously, what you're trying to achieve here is working. The Bezier curve video was definitely my favourite of them all. So beautiful and well explained.

I've never had youtube suggest so many good math videos to me as during the last few days/weeks (and i'm not even that into maths), so your contest definitely did something for math on youtube

So you're the reason why so many great math video's are popping up in my recomendations, I've even started a couple coding projects because of those video's, this contest was a great initiative and I hope people will keep trying to teach interesting math problems and concepts

By making this contest you've inadvertently created nearly infinite content for someone like me to binge on. I've been basically non stop learning new things and revisiting old topics that I never got a solid understanding of in my undergrad.
I can appreciate how much effort it takes to create these sorts of high quality that are heavily researched, so this contest is a sort of outsourcing of that process. I am the benefactor and I feel so lucky to be able to learn about all of these topics in such an approachable and digestible form. Thank you 3b1b, and to the lovely maths community we have on TH-cam.

The TH-cam algorithm kindly suggested about 80% of the videos you've picked... it was fun to go through some of them. It was obvious people put a great deal of effort into phrasing their ideas/findings/topics in an "easy to digest" way. I enjoyed watching them and I'll definitely be going through that playlist you've prepared. All of the participants did an awesome job!

how many of these videos independently picked up hundreds of thousands of views really demonstrates how much demand for this kind of content there is and by extension how much need there is to shift our approach of teaching math away from the usual approach in schools.

I hope you know just how much you’re revolutionizing math education. You’re making it accessible to people who would have no hope of understanding math (and now motivating others to do the same). This is the future of our society is going to more STEM demanding jobs. You’re doing the Lords work.
