Good morning!!!! Today is Saturday August 24th 3:07 AM!!!!! I couldn't sleep and I started checking your channel and I saw the comparisons and tests you did of various brands of colored pencils!!!!! ... but I didn't see CaranDache and I personally like that brand and I would appreciate it if you made a video of that brand!!! but you haven't uploaded videos for over a month!!!! Thanks!!!!!! 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊
An interesting pencil! I can see why you used white paper in this test to keep things consistent with your other video. I'd love to see you do a black paper test series in future with metallic and other styles too. 😊 Really enjoying your videos!
I'm in the UK and purchased my set from a known UK retailer also in the 36 tin format. My set have some differences in detail on the pencil having a number to identify. Sharpening I went straight with my tenwin electric sharpener and got an amazing point with no breakage so far but have only used the greens and yellows. Colouring on Amazon paper they actually blend as well as my prisma in the similar colours. I have arthritis and found them very comfortable to use. This could be a batch issue or just what is available to different countries. I must say though I've just found your channel and find your video to be very easy to watch with a presenting style that kept the focus of even this ADHD middle aged female so thank you 😊
I’m so glad that my presenting style is resonating with you 💜 this just made my day! It’s so interesting how the coding and naming varies so much from county to county and set to set! I’m also very pleased to hear that you managed to sharpen them okay. I’ve literally bought a few new sharpeners from amazon this week to try with them. As mine obviously just aren’t making the cut! I hope to create an artwork with them on my Twitch on Friday night, and I want to be able to sharpen them well. We’ll see how it goes I guess!
Happy to hear about your results. I was pretty discouraged from buying them when I saw how small that yellow was and how there were control issues. These are not cheap for someone saving for polychromos and wants to alleviate wrist pain when doing landscape.
@@naehalmulazim I finally saved enough for my polys last month and not a single regret. I have to say I love, love love them, even more so than my prismas. I think it's safe to say I'm definitely leaning more to being an oil based pencil lover. I've come to realise my art style is layering over blending. I'd say for me the black edition sit between the two. I really hope once you get your polys you'll love them as much as I do
Thanks for your review. I just ordered the 24 set. I usually "bake" my colored pencils in a hot car on the dashboard. I let them cool down in the car until after dark. It solved a lot of core breakage on Prismacolor and other very soft brands. Hopefully it will work for these. Not sure how I'll sharpen them.
Oh wow what an interesting idea! I suppose the heat would melt the core slightly so any breaks would melt back together… I’ll have to try it when it’s warmer!
Thanks Sunshine for another great video! After watching this I went to my local Officeworks 🇦🇺 & bought the box of 50 plus the pastel & neon, they ✨spark my joy ✨ too. The colours are so pretty & all pencils have the colour numbers on them 🥰
Your content is amazing! I know people have said this before, but I cannot believe you don't have a 6 or 7 figure subscriber count! I discovered your videos from the Black test - I'm an astrophotographer and the inside of telescopes need to have very good light scatter control (essentially zero) to capture images. Keep up the great work Sunshine! :D
Aw heck that’s so nice of you to say ☺️ Wow, that’s actually a super cool profession my friend, and such an interesting way to use the blacks! I’m so glad you found my little video useful to you!
After watching your review i think ill go for the 12 set. In my country, FC stuff is really expensive and I was going for a colored pencil set that didnt exacerbate my wrist pain and helped me fill in big areas in pieces easily but the control issues and the blending issues (in another review i heard they couldn't layer but could blend, weird) are really throwing me off. Faber Castell pencils were the last ones i expected to have breakage issues. I'm a hobbyist who wants to have a painless experience with coloring but the polychromos are not supposed to be known for comfort and softness so... Do you think these are around just as tiring as the Classics because of this shape?
saw them all over the internet recently and was curious about them ,thank you for the amazing review as always! Also, will you review the caran d'ache luminance colored pencils in the future? so looking forward for it if you'll ever do it!!
I’m glad you enjoyed it! Yes I really would love to try the Caran D’ache coloured pencils they look so beautiful! 😍 But I’m trying to not buy more than one super expensive pack of pencils per round, and the Lightfast already took my budget for this lot, haha coloured pencils are expensive! But hopefully for the next one 🤞
are you wrong?????? I hope not. !!! Anyway, take care of yourself please. !!!!! ...... I would like you to talk about CaranDache pencils !!!!! Could you. ?????? .... you know I like the way you analyze pencils and brands !!!!! ❤️. ❤️. ❤️. !!!!!!
No im better now, thankyou though. Well they are on the list but I have about 8 pencils here to review first of all. Hopefully I’ll speed up and get to them very soon 💜
I've had these in my shopping cart for awhile and have been going back and forth. The lack of names/numbers on them kinda scares/annoys me in theory, but a good paint pen can fix that and having a solid budget set for doing big background areas or just personal coloring stuff is always a good bet. Thank you as always.
I feel like since these are for black paper should have done color tests on black paper. I'd love to get a set. I've often done pencil drawings on construction paper.
Hi! Well I’m fairly certain they Arnt actually for black paper, they are just advertised as being good on it. I’ve emailed faber castell to actually get a definitive answer to that by the way, I do some work with them so I’m hoping I can get an exact answer. That’s said, I may do it in the future when I swatch them all but currently I’m trying to keep all my tests similar this only the black with the white pencil ☺️
I got the 100 set from Amazon UK and they had numbers. I think they are marketed towards children and teenagers and I agree. I couldn't really blend them but they are soft. I still like them and I don't regret my purchase. I also think these would just look cool on display.
@@StuffBySunshine Exactly! And thank you for sharing your thoughts on the pencils you review! It helps me decide which ones I would like to try and I appreciate it! 🥰
As soon as I saw the black wood and triangular shape, I was reminded of something I hadn't thought of probably since the 90s: when I was a 12-year-old cool kid I had a set of Yikes! pencils, and my favourite was a similar triangular shape with purple wood. They were very Rad and Extreme and Cool and comfortable to use, but as a standard graphite pencil it wasn't actually that good. 🤣 That said, my inner edgy adolescent would love the Black Edition set!
That’s so lovely! I’ve never heard of Yikes! Yeah they are a bit of that 80s/90s vibe now I think about it. I was never super edgy at that age, but I would have loved these as I had like the artistic ‘romantic’ approach when I drew and these would have fitted the tragedy of that perfectly ‘swoon’ 😂
I have the 36 set and although I find them lovely and soft to lay down on paper, the sharpening is a huge issue. So much so, I have written to Faber Castell to see what the problem is, but as yet, haven’t had a reply. I have tried all sorts of sharpeners from small hand held to electric and the pencils are useless to sharpen. They are completely off centre or else they break very easily. I don’t have this problem with any other pencil brand I own - even the cheapest Crayola. Shame really as I would have considered buying more, but not now I have had this sharpening problem.
I have the 100 set. I live in the U.S. and I bought them from a Polish seller on Amazon, because they weren't available here at the time. Mine are numbered. I like them because they have very unique colors. I don't like them because they don't blend or layer well. I don't know if my set has a "true" red or a "true" blue like yours seems to have.
Hmm that’s interesting 🤔 I still can’t figure out the numbers/names vs no numbers/names mystery! Lol It’s also strange that yours doesn’t have the as you say ‘true’ red or blue. You’d think the 100 set would have everything 🤷♀️
I´m in Argentina and I have the round one with numbers which is great. I love how soft and vibrant are, I compared with the prismacolor (which are softer) and in my opinion the colors are a little bit bright. But my preference, I like pencils a little bit harder than the pismacolor and this are similar in feeling to the polychromos. And cheaper, (For reference: one faber Castells of this edition is 1/10 of the value of a Prismacolor pencil). I recommend it :)
Hello sunshine, I really wish you would do a full review of Marco Renoir colored pencils, as it is professional and has an oily based, and it is soft, like pencils with wax-based Please give it a review. 🙏😇
Next review can you review Deli High Oil Colored Pencils? Because other people said this pencil is cheap but good color and high pigmented, if this true what they said can you review this colored pencil, please?
I would think that with a triangular shape, you would have the use an exacto knife to sharpen, but with how they blend it does seem student grade, and especially with the graffiti design on the tin. I think of knife sharpening with really high end artist pencils. Also my education with color pencils is multiple light layering. However by the way you describe them, I don’t think that's the issue. Crayola I think of as student grade, however I know hobbyist and serious artists that use Crayola. So I was comparing the 2 in my head. But as someone who primarily use Student/hobbyist grade supplies. I'm not sure I would be happy with them.
Yeah the sharpening is fairly annoying, I’ll have to email faber castell and see if they have any tips. They are pretty cheap to be fair. So if you wanted to play with a 12 set you’d get a feel for them. Between you and me and anyone else who reads this😂, crayolas are next week(or month depending on how slow I am) so I will have a look at the black edition in comparison to them☺️
It depends on how you hold a pencil or pen. For me, I hold a pencil/pen with all five fingers. Imagine holding a paintbrush. That is the best comparison I can think of.
Hi, in general a very nice video, but. Why where all the tests on white paper? I thought they were designed to go on black paper. Why test them under conditions, where you wouldn't use them anyways?
I just looked these pencils up online at Faber-Castell and they say they are exceptional on black and colored paper, so why not try them on black paper, the case makes it look like that is what they were made for anyway.
I bought them a while ago, without the color numbers on them and they really are advertised to be used on black and dark colored paper., so I do believe, you should also have tried and compared them to other colored pencils on black paper. I have the same issue with sharpening. I do not own any sharpener that can sharpen these beauties. The rounded trangular shape seems to be too awkward for most sharpeners. I usually get out my knife and a piece of sandpaper. 😢
Well no, they CAN be used on black paper. So can any pencil to be fair. I think you’re thinking of the marketing for them where there’s lots of pics of black paper (with black desks tbh). The site states : “the brilliantly bright colours come out especially well, even on dark or coloured paper.” Interesting your not the first person to think this tho, Faber-Castell may have made a mistake in how they market these
If you buy walking shoes that are advertised to be very good on slippery stones and uneven surfaces, it is a shame to only test them on even hardwood floors indoors. You will never know their full potential. That is why these pencils should also have been tested on black paper.
Hi! I try to keep all my tests as consistent as possible across each pencil we do. Thus I stuck to white with these, other than lights (or whites) on the black. Unfortunately if I tested every pencil on every color we’d be watching a three hr video 😂. That said the white did meh on the black, so I suspect there would be much better pencils for black if that was what you wanted (prismacolor and lightfast come to mind)☺️
I have the 100 set and love them for their unique palette: lots of moody shades. They perform nicely in light layers, as if they were oil based. But, yeah, the sharpening... It's hateful. The wood is so hard it splits, even with the crank sharpener. It's the biggest minus for me. Hopefully, FC decides to improve the issue at some point in the future. Fingers crossed.

Well often the black hard to do edges and shading over the top of other colors and the white can be intended to use as a blending pencil ☺️
