I'm too lost as a near 40yr old millennial to comment on the standard quality of spiderman games, or any modern game for that matter but i will say this. The 2000's was the best gaming experience I ever had. Max Payne, Metal Gear Solid 3, Gears of war, Devil May Cry, Brutal Legend, Skyrim. I did play Spider Man on PS1 and Spider Man: Enter Electro on PS1. But as i get older it gets increasingly hard to remember the magic of those good times.
People always say how revolutionary Spider-Man PS4 was, but much of what was there TASM games did already. Doesn’t make PS4 any less, but TASM games were very good!
TASM games were clunky and pale imitations of the arkham games. Atleast the insomniac games added cool new animations that made combat much more unique and stand out.
And the original 2004 Spider-Man 2 from Treyarch was basically the first to introduce both an open-world sandbox city and the revolutionary dynamic web-swinging system.
PS1 to PS2 was the biggest jump for me. It felt truly next generation. I grew up with all of that. I had so many consoles. Of course PS4 to PS5 is an improvement but it isnt so massive.

if the ps3 is able handle tasm2 then it isn't specifically made for ps4. It's just on ps4 as well for people who didnt play it on ps3 with ps3 graphics.
I think too many people will sacrifice themselves to nostalgia and say “the original games are the best, nothing can replace them” It goes for many games. For many people that’s right because most of us play the games we remember from childhood and it was amazing. It doesn’t meant what we get today isn’t better.
Spider-Man on PS1 still feels the most like a comic book come to life. It’s so charmingly cheesy in moments. I’ll never forget Venom trolling Spider-Man for a good section of the game.
Always loved games, i had a PS2 and a PS3 but i never played a spiderman game, and now I'm starting to wonder why, i even played a weird hulk game were i would punch buildings and they would collapse.
each of these is the best the console had to offer nearing its lifecycle, other than the jump from ps4 to ps5. it's fun to imagine what they might do near the end of ps5 era. hoping for photorealistic games.(talking about character closeups)
What’s interesting is that the PS5 could emulate PS1, PS2 and possibly even PS3. And of course it has built in PS4 emulation. So if Sony wanted they could make available their entire first party catalog right from PS1.
PS2 to PS3 was the last major step up, everything after that is more gradual.

For those who are confused why Spiderman ps2 looked weird, it was the PC port which is notably the worst version of that game.
