Super interesting and intellectual convo!!! Favorite part was your discussion on faith and the unexplainable, specifically when you talked about the wonders of the universe and how God or a higher power could play into it. Interestingly when you do your research you'll find how the origin of science and math was historically backed by men/women of faith (catholics, Christians, and philosophers of different faiths/regions) to understand the world around them. There are a lot of religious people, who accept and also firmly believe that the scientific explanations regarding the origins of our planet and universe while at the same time affirming their faith in God in many cases as well. At the same time, there are those looking toward religion to explain what science cannot, and asking science to validate religious teachings--- so its really all a continous circle
The existentialist questioning that most young people experience in their lives is a powerful factor in their development. Reconciling the exposure you’ve gotten to life and the ideals that might fuel your will to live result in nuanced, exclusive, and boundless worldviews. You guys are definitely no exception and your discourse was so delightful and enriching. You rock!
Devon is such a good host. I like how he asks such good questions and lets the guest talk. Dude seems hella down to earth. Every guest he has just feels like a friend. Devon just has a natural calmness to him. Also i like how Alyson Stoner is using her privilege (which she acknowledges) to make the next generation of kid entertainers better. Her Toddler to Trainwreck video was a bombshell and incredible. It’s wild how basically Child actors are basically people who work in customer service but have to smile all the time (even off-camera). Never saw acting as a job, but having to be on set for 9hrs is definitely work. I can easily see how a child doing all that while losing out on a childhood can be very traumatizing. Great interview. Great podcast.
Not the conversation I expected from this podcast, Alyson is so intelligent and you can see just how passionate she is about her project and mental health.
Just like you told Alyson not to give up that connection with performance and art, don't give up your connection with music!! I have loved how every single one of these episodes the conversation has gone in the direction I did not expect. I'm greatly looking forward to the next guest on the Pod! Sn: we do need to come up with a name for us watchers and listeners
Alyson describing how she came to a place of believing that she wasn't predestined to be with God is pretty heartbreaking to me. I sympathize and relate to her and the numerous other deconstruction stories that I have heard, but it is my belief that God is the source of the hope and wonder that we so desperately need. And I certainly hope we all find it!
Wow Devon, you have become a wonderful and deep human. Proud of the little Ned! Also, i met Devon on a film shoot at Puerto Vallarta, México and he was an amazing human to me and my friend. Very empathy.
Man, you can really tell that playing a character who was a guide for a particular time in life really touched Devon in a deep way. I think it's so great and respectable the way that Devon has seemed to carry that mentality throughout life. He seems to just have this need to connect with people and share experiences, and in doing so just try to help people. Devon's great.
All the talk from you lately about making incremental changes and taking pride in doing small things is awesome. The discussion about keeping wonder was amazing as well, we don’t have the answers and that’s not only okay but can be beautiful. I hope you keep sharing your thoughts and having discussions and I wish you well in all of your other creative endeavors. Great to see someone who brought so many smiles to my youth being a sweet thoughtful soul. Much love from, Nebraska, buddy!!
This episode was really strong, loved making this my introduction to the show. Considering how much he would have to talk about, but also how he and Devon have very similar speaking tones and it'll be fun trying to tell them apart, I would love to see Zach Callison from Steven Universe on the show in the future.
Would love an episode that discusses how to survive the work life. Working the 9-5 grind everyday until retirement is super depressing and makes life hard to enjoy. We live to work but need to work to live. It sucks
I saw a clip of this episode and decided to watch it today. Such a great conversation. The disclaimer/opening statement from Alyson was perfect. I really resonated with being and “adult” and trying to find hope, joy, and purpose in my life and reconnecting with wonder and awe again.
I keep seeing Alyson Stoner on podcasts, and I just wish I could chat with her myself. So much of what she says resonates with me so much. Great episode.
Found yall on tiktok. It's wild to see yall in the same room! Alyson was a huge inspiration for me as a dancer and Devon an inspiration as a teacher. Such a cool conversation about child psychology.
This is my coming out for me. I never knew that she was queer as well. I am happy. Girl same. All of it. Feel seen. I love how cool alot of the child entertainer I grew up with are so chill as adults. Like we growing up and just vibing together.❤️
Interesting thing you said. Alot of people kinda prefer in alot of ways escape the body. You said go deeper into your body spiritually in order to process the world without trying to dissociate.
I love the dynamic you two have! It’s really interesting to see how you guys are dealing with the past and setting up your future. We all feel the same way about growing up. It’s weird. Hearing you two talk about it puts me at ease because we are all still figuring it out! Lol
Ok so the santa thing!! I've always wrestled with this because if I told them I'd be technically lying to them and if I didn't then I'm denying them the magic and the likelihood of them telling other kids santa isn't real and ruining it for them is high. So what I did was I told them about Santa as the spirit of Christmas and when they reach around 7 I take them out to lunch and I say something along the lines of "I have a very special job for you, I think you are ready to become Santa" and they have to pick someone like a friend or neighbour or family member and get them a nice gift, something they need and sign it from Santa and the person can't know it's from you. This means the magic never really dies amd they get to be a part of it. So in our house, that's what Santa is and the jolly man is just a representation of the spirit of Christmas.
I'd love to befriend Alison 😭 we are the same age and seem to have come to similar conclusions though we have had similar but different journeys. Crazy
Oh yeah Alyson GETS IT. It's bigger than the concept of organized religion. God is way more than that and it's about constant perceptual growth as an individual to continually get closer to what God means/actually is. Keep going. You're on the right path.
Devon, my man. MY DAD had the same "my kid needs to trust my word" mentality, so when I was 6 and came up to my dad and straight up asked "is santa real?", he was like "no fam its us I won't lie to you". SO LIKE I GET IT BUT I WAS SIX AND I WAS CRUSHED
43:00 As someone who has had the experience of having something recommended or "algorithmed" to me on the internet that I never typed in but merely thought about... this is pretty terrifying... amazing but terrifying...
three months late, but here's my take on the santa thing - i think it's so important for kids to have that magic, but also for them to learn to question authority when they find out the truth. learning not to trust everything they're told, even by their parents (because parents can be wrong) is important developmentally, i think
Hey man, not gonna sub bc I can't stand shorts, but I'll throw ya in my notepad! So cool to see aly stoner on here. I loved her in Eminem's just lose it video.
There was always this preconceived notion that child actors aren’t educated for not pursuing college or being homeschooled all their lives. Hearing how sophisticated and well spoken people like Devon and Alyson are is awesome to see. Alyson still believing in Santa until the age of 13 is crazy. Had she gone to public school and revealed that, she would have been bullied lol
Here's the thing some famous kids don't really know how to read or write because the adults I'm their lives don't put school above performing. Some sets have 4 hour classes but they aren't stressed to learn just to do this because it is LAW . Really sad to have adults who don't care about your well being just money
As a parent, who does santa and the tooth fairy, its not about lying to my child, its about bringing the magic everyone else has around that year. I dont want my 5 year old going to school telling all her classmates that santa isnt real, and as a 5 year old, she would. Then youve ruined the magic for the rest of the kids. I think the real lie is when the kid gets an ipad and a computer and an xbox "from santa", and the kid next door gets socks. At that point, tell your kid your santa and give them the expensive gifts yourself.
I'd do the Santa thing but never connect it with religion. Only because of the excitement on Christmas morning. I think the tooth fairy was really a concept to help with kids in pain after losing teeth. Get them attached to the dollar early on.
I would say a lot of Christians have wonder and there isn’t actually a middle man for us- we have direct access to God and don’t need to go through someone else- there is actually a popular song by hillsong called wonder
We talked about a LOT in this Ep. What was your favorite discussion?
How great women are 😏😂
@@dezic_ 🤣🤣🤣
Her experience with religion and her sexuality leading to other answers.

She is very talented. It's a shame they snuff out these child actors carers after running them into the ground.
Me also feeling the relief when you said it wasn’t Dan Schneider 😂 love the podcast!!!
Just like you told Alyson not to give up that connection with performance and art, don't give up your connection with music!!

As a licensed massage therapist, I absolutely loved this episode! The mind body experience is a real thing!

I loved this one so much! Resonate with so much of what Alyson talks about. Also, Devon your shirt is amazing. Keep slaying.

This podcast really helps a lot with putting together the way I'm feeling as a young adult
Also Dream Guest would be Moises Arias. Dude who played Rico on Hannah Montana. Dude looks like he’s living a Bohemian life and I’m all for it
That story Alyson told with ol girl hitting her up saying she felt a nudge and she ain't talked/seen her in years is deep. In the 40min mark
Thank y'all for this.
I love how down to earth Alyson is this isy favorite episode. This episode feels like a great therapy session. 😌
Interesting thing you said. Alot of people kinda prefer in alot of ways escape the body. You said go deeper into your body spiritually in order to process the world without trying to dissociate.
This was such an important and beautiful conversation. Wish I had people to talk to in my life about these things in a healthy way like you two did.

I never realized how well spoken and smart Alyson is.

"It wasn't Dan Schnieder" he said knowing that saying he'd a good experience as a child on a nickelodeon set would cause confusion
As a parent, who does santa and the tooth fairy, its not about lying to my child, its about bringing the magic everyone else has around that year.
