  • Nestled against the backdrop of one of the world’s most notorious conflict zones are the pristine snow-capped peaks of Gulmarg.
Despite being a few kilometres from the Line of Control dividing India and Pakistan, it has long attracted adventure-seeking skiers from the West.
Now it has become a winter escape for Kashmiris too, a respite from the tension they live with every day.
101 East visits Indian-administered Kashmir and meets the Kashmiris conquering the slopes of their homeland through a burgeoning ski industry.

This Modi Govt. is majorly focussed on developing Kashmir while creating more & diverse jobs for the youngsters of Kashmir.
Huge funds r being spend to develop infrastructure & make Kashmir more Tourist friendly, so that more & more Tourist visit Kashmir, thus helping locals to earn an handsome income.
Kudos to Modi ji & I hope Yogi ji will carry forward this era of development & Pride.

I went to learn Skiing in Gulmarg this year and it was a breathtaking experience. The locals are supportive and understand the kind of economic growth skiing and snowboarding can bring to the area. The tourism department on the other hand needs to improve the local infrastructure and support the locals in order for the area to be able to maximize its potential. Hopefully, with prolonged stability in the region and with extensive government support, Gulmarg can very well become one of the best ski towns in the world.

@@tired.....247 I wasn't really there for very long time to have an opinion on this. On the surface they certainly seemed to be alright with the government if they could achieve economic prosperity. The economy of the entire area is completely dependent on tourism and hence they wanted the government to help them with the same. The government is doing a little here and there, but because of stability issues, environmental factors and a few others, there hasn't been any big investment for a long time in that area.

I think Pakistan shouldn't forget that the land they call their own is actually India's and they themselves are Indians having Hindu ancestry. Hindusim is older than any religion you know and it extended till present day Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia etc. Even the rituals and language of zoroastrians have similarity with Hindu culture. In short Pakistanis are descendants of Hindus. You should look at history as a whole and not as particular fragments.

@@SOUVIK_RAY_ lol, history is limited to every ethnicity. Every cultural cluster in Pakistan have different history, you can claim Afghanistan as Hindu because of Gandhari Hindkos, not the Pashtun themselves, the Pashtuns were Zoroastrian, in fact Zoroastrianism was born in Balkh, Afghanistan. Afghani and Pakistani ethnicities love to see in their ethnic perspective, not like Indians who nationalists are unionists and irredentists
