I also need some privacy 6-8ft hight along street fence about 173ft...I do not mind prunning as long as is not so often..can this plants be keep at any size I want without lots of mantince? I don't want the plant to go over my neighbors side. This is a very fast growing plant right and it will keep its leaves all year aroung...I saw some of these trees that were 12 ft hight I think they were 15 gallons, and did not have any leaves on bottom only on top..the lady told me that they were trainned to grow like that. Iam just afraid they will be lots of mainance and they will grow huge?? Sorrybfor all the questions.
Hello from Italy, I personally chose this shrub for the low purchase cost and for the low maintenance it gives. Certainly you have to give a little assistance to this plant at its beginning but after it gets by itself, you have to fertilize it well every year and prune it when it is too high, otherwise it remains a beautiful decorative plant, I say yes as a choice and I confirm it still today after years of planting it. Hello and greetings from Italy
Why did you switch from Leylandii to Photinia and what's your feedback on these two plants? I'm thinking about planting one of these and can't decide which one is better from disease, maintenance and beauty perspective.
Hello friend, as you can see I decided to plant the Photinia because it has a low maintenance, it is attacked by bacteria but there is a system to destroy these insects, I highly recommend it, greetings from Italy
Hello from Italy, first you have to find the right position that gets a lot of sun, you must never lack water, fertilize in spring with fertilizer containing nitrogen, potassium, keep it well cut, and love it, Hello
Ciao, ho appena piantato delle piantine di photinia da 60-80cm. Consigli per la prima potatura? In autunno o per il primo anno è meglio non intervenire?
This is the right answer: I cut five or six times in a year because the tendency is to go up, so for the first 2 years, often cuts for infoltirla, so you have to cut it closes the omogenea.Poi growth in the spring and after the summer.
Max Tremo can you help please with advice? so I understood from your comment that cut needs to be done 5 times for the first 2 years....but didn't understand the way to cut? should you also cut the main branch to promote bushiness as my photonia are leggy....and how to cut please ? you mentioned few words that I didn't understand infilteria..omegenia.. thank you
