How about repositioning the fly so you wind the thread on the post just as you would around the shank? That method was shown by both Rosenbauer and Flagler in their videos. I've used it and it helped with not unraveling my thread. I enjoy your Tying Tips and have kept every video. Thanks, Cheech.
@@edwardmlotkiewicz2343 I have seen that technique a lot, but I would rather just leave the hook in the vise. Once you get good at it the traditional way, the other ways are just extra steps. Just my opinion…
Calf body hair is really tough to work with, so I don't tie with it much. When I do I kick my self for tying a sloppy fly. I had the same issue with compra-duns back in the day, I just didn't avoid tying the fly. Its all about practice. After a while and a few dozen it gets better. The other thing is finding good calf hair, its a crap shoot especially buying on line, thou I am sure that if I order some from Fly Fish Food, you will personally select the right hair for me and send along a happy birthday card with it since my birthday is on the First of February. Oh wait you might be in Argintina by then so never mind, I take my chances as usual.
Maybe the reason I dislike the calftail I have is that it isn’t floofy enough. I can’t walk through a shop to test patches & must depend on the on fly shops with online shopping. So … as one of your customers, can I call up, & expect anyone in the shop will understand what I mean when I ask that they pick out a floofy patch of calf body hair? I’m smiling while I ask this & have indeed asked for help comparing Whiting necks for slight color differences. I do expect help when buying a relatively expensive item but a little patch of calf body? Maybe I should ask for you? ;-)
As much as I hate calf body hair, this video was useful. The guys that sell calf body hair might learn something when they select from the companies that provide the stuff to you guys. Short wimpy calf body hair don’t make it.
Thanks again another great one.
I NEEDED this video. Thank you. Now I have to look and find out if I threw them out in frustration
Another great video, thank you so much.

Thanks for the tips! Calf hair is a challenge.
Tks cheech for sharing your knowledge 😊
What size was the hair stacker?

@@FlyTyer1948 that’s what I’m saying. It’s a huge challenge. We also don’t have any floofy patches at all right now. 😬😬
