Hey, great video and it has prompted me to get a midimix. After playing around a bit with some self recorded tracks, there's something I can't get my head round.. The mixer, and many more expensive mixers all seem to have 2 or maybe 3 effects sends /returns... So how would I have more effects, say delay, reverb, modulation, reverb with say a phaser or different types of delay and be able to apply them to any given track with only 2 sends. I must be missing something obvious. Any help would be awesome. Thanks
Hi Harry, you can bank with this controller, but I also use another method... I put 2 groups of fx per send, then assign a button to toggle one group off and the other on, so I can quickly change fx without altering the mapping. For example I'll have a spring reverb and a plate reverb on the same send and toggle between them during the mix. You could also buy a controller with more pots 🙌shantea make something similar but much bigger, highly recommended
@@AlphaSteppa thanks man. The toggle groups idea will keep me going for quite a while until I build my skills and ideas. That Shantea mixer looks like my next step up 👍

Great video and a few years old now so fingers crossed I get a reply cos this is doing my swede in. @@AlphaSteppa Thanks for reply. Sadly that hasn't seemed to make a difference. I wonder if it's a quirk of later updates as I could it no problem in Live 9!? To be a bit clearer what I've been trying to do is take say, my snare channel and records it's output to a fresh audio track whilst manipulating the aux. Standard Dub practice of course but for some reason the recorded audio is still coming back without fx. Sorry to drone on but this is obviously a big deal as a dubbist ; cheers
@@patkelly3966 I think this would depend on your audio interface, but an easier option could be to just record the automation you want then export that one track > file export > [either solo track or select snare when exporting], then you can save the snare with fx and import back into the project.
Bless up King ! I have been trying to set the faders maximum level to 0db and not +12db from Ableton regardless of what controller or is it depending on the controller?
Yeah, what a nice session! I would have a question regarding your audio processing when preparing multi-channel live dub sets like yours. Do you stem master each track (Kick, Snare, Hats/Percussion/Chop/Skank etc.) when preparing a live set? In general, what would your recommendations be when trying to create a coherent (in terms of volume and dynamics) sounding set with multiple tracks? Big up and keep the work up! :-)

How are you doing this? I use studio one, but the principle should be the same. Big thanks. Hope your enjoying the summer man.
Hey, thanks for the comment. I haven't used studio one, but are you using sends/returns? This is the best way to mix dub, you can then send the parts of the song you like to the FX channels and when you mute the effects continue independently and in parallel. Dub it!
Quick question. Does the midimix automatically map to vst's that you are using within Ableton? I was previously using an APC mkii and it just picked everything up no problem. Just wondering if this doe the same thing?

1 - the sends are controlled using the dials, row 1 is return 1 (echo), row 2 is return 2 (reverb) and row 3 is return 3 (short delay)2 - yes I produced this3- I’ve tried them all, and even though this is the cheapest, it’s the most reliable, yes it’s small but it doesn’t take long to get used to, and even though it’s plastic, the plastic is durable and lightweight, which is great for travel. There are surprisingly few midi mixers on the market, I’m still waiting for a proper 16 channel mixer which would be great for studio work.4 - A few of the dials which are unused (for example you don’t need fx on the kick), so instead I use those dials to tweak fx, I have delay time, delay feedback, reverb filter and reverb volume.- I’ll make a tutorial soon on how to midi map the whole thing, it’s pretty simple!
