    The amount of effort you went through to change all the different materials to have your logo on it for the thumbnail shows your commitment to this channel and also your growth from when you started! Excellent quality vids and awesome project ideas as always too! Keep up the good work!

    Love having all the techniques in one video. Easier reference than the texture playlist I was managing. As always great content!

    Great tips! Sprinkling cinnamon is also a great technique for small projects to add a rust look.

    I almost shouted NO! When you said “no matter the brand” of spray adhesive, but remembered you’re talking about creating texture. 🤣 so many graphic design rules have been deeply ingrained in me it’s hard to acknowledge anything except Super77! 🤷🏼‍♀️
    Also that Krylon Cinnamon spray paint is clutch!

    Love it! Great video. I never get tired of these types of prop hacks. I've also seen the use of gorilla glue (be it spray or brush on) to create skin like and bone textures since it can form some unique looks while it expands. As always, thank you.

    Awesome compilation! It's great that they all use easy-to-find, relatively inexpensive materials, and a little texture can really tranform a prop.

    You could do a whole video just on Durhams hard putty tips and techniques for prop making. So many uses and I really love the texture results I achieved on my 5th Element stones with a thick mixture and stippled with a chip brush and slightly knocked down before it dries completely. One of the most durable of the ones you mentioned as well.

    A technique I use is adding swirls of hot glue and letting it get tacky-soft, then using a dulled pencil tip to scribble quickly up and down. This gives a rough, bark-like texture like you'd find on an old, dry branch, with little sharp bark-like peaks rather than metallic lumps.

    • @NoJusticeNoPeace
      @NoJusticeNoPeace 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Robbie gregory I think the channel blocks URLs. I use this technique for making Harry Potter style wands which look like rough-hewn branches.

    I found your channel today and LOVE it. Set decoration/props have always been something I have wanted to do (but was afraid to try it). I am putting my fear aside this year and am going to decorate my front yard for Halloween.
    One prop I am going to use is this spooky girl on a swing but on her own I don’t find her to be quite scary enough. I want to texture her skin so she stands out more. What would be your recommendation for doing that? Thank you for the inspiration and all the awesome ideas!

    Good stuff here. I still haven't found anyone that sells that wall texture spray in Australia though (and nobody will ship aerosols overseas)

  • @mikeenyart9632

  • @rachaelbackdoor4872

    I am intersted in using these textures on wood surfaces that will receive regular handling. With a good primer and prop sealing, how durable are these different methods?

    • @VanOaksProps
      @VanOaksProps  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They’re pretty durable. The kosher salt is the most likely to flake off out of all of them because of how dimensional it is.

  • @rayk141
    @rayk141 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Could the spray wall texture work well on the pink foam? I've been wanting to try the drylock method, but try the spray first. Again thanks for your videos and insights.... ✌️✌️

    • @VanOaksProps
      @VanOaksProps  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’d need to do it from a distance to keep the propellant from melting the foam. Depending on what kind of paint you use, it may not be visible. It’s a pretty fine texture.

    How durable is the spray adhesive? Will it rub off, like masking fluid/rubber cement/toothpaste? I love the look of the texture (perfect for a project I’m working on), but I need something durable. That’ll last years of use.
    Always love your content. So much talent.

    • @VanOaksProps

      It’s quite durable once top coated with paint.

  • @patbo3577
    @patbo3577 ปีที่แล้ว

    Could you do a video specifically on different ways to hard coating & how hard they actually are.
    I personally prefer to paint my tombstones black than dry brush details, and finish with exterior polyurethane, but I don't think it's hard enough.
    I've also tried monster mudding my stones before dry brushing, than polyurethane, but find it chips off easily.
    There must be another affordable option im missing.
