Jungle Magic? Just that phrase is Disrespectful of other religions. The Lukumi Yoruba religions are ancient ways of worship Olodumare (God). You my brother are misinformed.
Hello, yes there is a deep spirituality that runs through the religions I mention. It is not imaginary but real, but it is the nature of that reality that must be on concern. We Christians say: "Test the spirits." Could they be demons in disguise?
sure it is, your faith tells you it's your faith's way or the highway. Because it's in your holy book. Guess what, other cultures have their holy book too. or oral traditions. I would never call your object of worship demonic. I would even fight to defend your right to your faith. All we non-Christians are asking is to have the same respect extended to us. You have no idea how many of our ancestors were killed and enslaved in the name of Jesus, nor how we are viewed as inferior because we worship according to our ancestor's way. If that isn't pride and arrogance I don't know what is. Every religion has abusers that is not a valid reason to put that religion down.
Hello Domingo, thank you for your comments. In many ways I agree with you. If all religions were of equal value and true, then I would be wrong to say otherwise. However, truth is truth, real is real, and we know from the earliest accounts of religious documents there is an evil presence, a demonic kingdom, an actual devil whose mission it is to distort the Word of the creator God. In the Scripture, the Old and New Testament, this creator God speaks to us. The Living Word of God, born of the virgin, that Word whom the prophets said would die for our sins. This is not just another tale told, but the accurate record of God. Whatever else, however culturally based, sincere, etc., no matter, not the real truth. If everything one believes is of equal value and absolutely true, truth is of no value. There is a spiritual battle that goes on and the chief end is to point to someone else than Jesus Christ. Yes, much evil has been done in the name of religion including Christianity. But all that is called Christian is not necessarily so. There is an invisible Church known only to God; there is the visible church that is a man made institution and it is here were the trouble is. I am an evangelical, in the Reformed tradition. In 1555, a relative of mine, John Philpott, was burned to death in the Inquisition. Christians versus Christian-something terribly wrong here. We must be careful to avoid lumping everything done in the name of Christ into the same stew.
The material I gathered for the Santeria piece comes directly from books on Santeria written by people that are in favor of it. From feed back I have gotten it looks like some people are upset to have the actual nature of Santeria exposed.
alot of what you speak is true ! but keep in mind alot of people are born into it , tought that there is NOTHING wrong with it.. so they find it disrespectful that you are speaking about it in such way (truth)
If you have never been part of the religion Yoruba or palo there's really nothing you could criticize because you don't know anything what books tells you it's what other people like you think
+Danilo Aguilar Hello, the way education works is that we study things, read books, talk to others directly involved, and make evaluations. This is understood the world over. Sorry to say, but demonic evil disguises itself in many ways. Something may be indeed spiritual but be completely of Satan.
How can you say you love people but judge them and not know nor understand the very book you claim to believe in? Do you know hebrew, Amharic, Greek, Latin or Ole English?
sophiya Twyman Hello, Santeria means, "that saint thing" and refers to the worship of the Orisha gods and godesses that came with the slaves from West Africa in the 17th century. When these people arrived in the New World, the Caribbean area, they brought their gods. But due to the dominate Roman Catholic culture, they disguised the worship of their African gods for saints. And it worked, and Santeria is alive today. In Haiti it is called Voodoo. Basically it involves being possessed by gods, really demons. It involves seances, the occult, and worship of false gods. My email is: kentphilpott#comcast.net if you want to go into it further.
hijadelossantos Yes, probably a weirdo, and so said, that is enough I suppose. No real point made other than name calling. Sounds like fear or hate -- nothing very substantial. My book, How Shamanism, Santeria, Wicca, and Charisma are Connected. At Amazon. Read it and see what you think then make an intelligent critique.
This guy has no clue what he is talking about , the yoruba which are the ancestors of santeria which is more than 6,000 yrs old, santa muerte has nothing to do with santeria
Santeria has nothing to do with Santeria! I have been practicing for 7 years a priest for 5. Best thing I have ever done for my self.. I will watch rest of your videos and see what else you have to say.
Kent, thank you for your series on this subject. I found it to be helpful. I know someone who is envolved in Santeria and is truly possessed by demons, she is not willing to repent from her real demonic power. I find it interesting that when L-rd Yesuha (Jesus) performed miraculous signs, the Greek word for power-dunamis- is used. It is interesting that when the man of sin has his 42 months of power Thess. tells us that all dunamis is given to him to decieve those who have rejected the Gospel
Yes indeed, the counterfeiting of genuine miracles that point to Jesus. In Santeria then we find supernatural power. To see this is very compelling and many are then drawn to Santeria not knowing that what they are seeing are demonic in nature. There are not many of these cults/religions around and this one has gone underground far too long. Kent
If you primarily got information from books, than you didn't really learn about the religion. Talking with Santeros and experiencing the religion is the only way to learn about it, as most if the books have false or incomplete information. As a Santero I can tell you that this is far from being an accurate account of our religion.
I find it interesting Mr Kent that you are erasing all of the helpful information and TRUTH I have posted in your channel and kept all the angry comments made by others. Why are you erasing the intelligent thought provoking comments for you to continue your research ?
Santeria is not about power or money. There are no "mega churches" or preachers on TV talking down to people of different beliefs, while ASKING OPENLY to send as much money as possible. There aren't Santeria TV stations, a Santeria amusement park, and I noticed: no videos on TH-cam of misinformed Santeros or Santeras preaching negativity about another persons belief system. Who would you say seems more about "power and money?" Those who practice Santeria? Or um idk...The 700 Club?
Hello, Santeria in Haiti is Voodoo, that is generally, as differences have evolved over the centuries, but essentially it is the same world view and dynamics. Santeria, the West African, Yoruba, religion, when it came to the New World via slaves being brought over, was repressed by the Catholic church once it was discovered that the worship of the Orisha's, that is the Yoruba god and goddesses, was not acceptable. So this religion went underground and the deities renamed for Catholic saints.
Voodoo...VOUDON..comes from the Fon people of Benin, Santeria is a syncretic religion mixing aspects of the Yoruba IFA traditional religion and elements of Kardecian Spiritism, Congo derived Palo mayombe, and Superficial Catholicism. I suggest you do more reading on the topic, as your explanation is erred. May searching the University of Oslo website, or the University of Miami website on Santeria.
Our father, which art in heaven hallowed be thine name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our trespass as we forgive those that trespass against us, lead us not into temptation Lord but deliver us from evil for thine is the kingdom the power and the glory forever and ever, AMEN! PRAISE GOD
many books equate the Orisas as angels..the first offspring of God, being seperated into categories, like those which were a part of creation, those that maintain the natural order, and those that walked amongst us, Olodumare is not satan, it stands for everything that is holy, and is exactly equatable to the gnostic belief system and other ancient beliefs of a decentralized deity who is the fabric of existence, and our connection is with an aspect of him..in santeria being Olofi ( the demiurge)
is incorrect, comes from an intent of prejudice and lack of knowledge. Many of the information you have shared comes from secondary sources. Anything that comes from Africa is deemed negative in this US society. We're speaking of blatant psychological oppression in the US that has effected African descendants in the US. The only thing you are right about is the sacrifices of chickens. However the Yoruba Religion (Santeria) is older than the Catholic Church itself and also keep in mind the history of violence and corruption that were present throughout the history of the Catholic church . Santeria is a beautiful religion once you see past the stereotypes and the ignorance of society. If you believe that your information is "spot on" then I implore you to search for more reliable sources rather than the ones that are supplying you with this false information.
400 years old? wrong. La Santa Muerte? Not sub category, it HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SANTERIA...I promise you that whatever books you got your info out of are WRONG. If you really want to know what this is, I can tell you about it myself (I am a priest and graduate student at NYU) or connect you with one of MANY PhDs & academics who are also practicing Santeria priests. It is the height of arrogance to talk publicly about subjects which you have no REAL knowledge. I'll pray for you.
It can be equated to at some levels, but only some deities are "similar". Voudon is a completely different religion in its own right. I live in Dominican Republic, I have been to Haiti, it is not santeria. It is its own liturgy, with its own religious, socio-cultural manifestation. even the religious language is different. Also Voudon comes from the Fon people of Benin, not of the Yoruba people. Look at the Candomble faith, There is the Ketu nation= Yoruba, The jeje nation = FON
we strive to be better people, to reverence the Earth and nature knowing that ASe is in everything, and so the interconnectedness....yes even with you christians..ogbedi kaka ogbedi lele..knowledge was divided throughout the world...analyze your own life..and see your own demons manifest...we are a culture that doesnt need your reprimand or teachings...you only promote the divisive agenda of your forefathers...may obatala bring you clarity and peace of mind...ASE O a todos mis abures...
Worship יהוה (Yahweh the Father/Creator) your God. Jesus Christ the Messiah (Yashua Ha'Mashiah who's names meaning is:Yah is Salvation) is the ONLY way to the Father. Ask CHRIST to forgive you, to remove those unclean spirits from you, and for HIM to fill your heart. You can do MORE powerful things with Gods Holy Spirit. Demons and so-called Orishas/Saints/etc have no power over CHRIST JESUS. Trust in him. It's not too late even for the worst of US sinners. Believe!
The true goal of Yoruba faith, is alignment with our destiny through IFA, which is a philosphy which predates the JEWS and the whole concept of Jehovah... and these principles if you truly read them oddly have the 10 commandments somewhere in their teachings...what do we face? archetypes....we are followers of divine archetypes, divine consciousness, the problem then lies with you sir, have you put your own religion through the same scrutiny? have you yourself dug a little deeper?
Santa Murete is not an official part of Santeria but stems from it; the two are closely related. And once in, once mounted then the trouble begins because what is thought as a god or goddess is really an evil spirit, which many realize but are ashamed to admit.
It is not Pure, and its degree of purity will depend on each Ile de Osha, most practice: spiritism (allen kardec in Cuba, maria lionza), makes you wonder how "Eggun" which are not orishas can be manifest in so many places...how 17 people can have a negra francisca...or a tajose... Many houses incorporate Palo Mayombe, kimbisa, cruzado etc... and if they are Abakua..maybe other mixtures...so we get a practice which is a conglomerate...are they demon worshippers...NO...

Greetings Kent I would say that you have been misinformed and I suggest you revise your data, firstly Santeria is not 400 years old and if you want real facts you need to speak to people who are from the origins of the tradition and it's cultural background. There are different branches and you will find that as in any religion there are people of GOOD character and some that are not. Please consider exploring the truth and facts i am open to dialog with you. Blessings
So, here's a word of advice. Maybe you should not be putting videos on youtube if you are going to misrepresent a tradition to such a gross extent. I am less than three minutes in to your video, and I already heard so many things that are just plain wrong..
Well as far as your video you really need to get your information right before you make a video because you were way off its ppl like you that give religions a bad reputation you do know that Christianity was imposed on to ppl by death if they didn't convert to Christianity so I don't thing it's wise to talk about any religion unless you have done your investage what and why we do thing in our religions and as sacrifices I know that back then Christianity also made sacrifices so learn more about the subject I've been in and out of religions and all I've gotten is that it's more a business than a teaching I didn't find in any of the scriptures that Jesus asked for money when he was amongst the people he came to save and with that I will close have a good life may your GOD give you all the good thing in this world
the whole catholic thing is extremely superficial..once inside you realize it is far from catholic....FAR FAR FAR AWAY.....with the only catholic thing being done are prayers in Misa Espiritual...my 2 cents...Odabo
Sir I applaud at your attempt to demonize this spiritual practice...the fact therein lies in that you information or extrapolation of information is erred. The Voudon Fait comes from Benin Republic and Dahomey... The fon people... The Yoruba faith disseminated through the americas with brazil housing the closest in resemblance to the West African practice...Santeria is 400 years old...the small amount of Yoruba left comes from a lineage o thousands of years before Jesus was even a twinkle in
Your justification of your position is really off base and hypocritical. The terms you use are typically racist and classist in nature. Your pronunciations are proof that you took no time to study this information from an educational, and knowledgeable standpoint. Your research is tainted by your mindset and completely embarrassing from a perspective of scholarship.
It's full of charlatans attacking the gullible for there money. Telling people they got all these spirits causing bad luck etc. Lots of cold reading cons. buy status, everyone has a guardian spirit lol. hey if I have one then why doesn't it talk to me, why should I pay a man or woman so it can talk to them instead, it's all a con.
Dear Felix, you are captured by deception. Only Jesus can set you free. Call out to the Lord and Savior for deliverance from the evil power gripping you.
Kent Philpott H.I.S name is not "" Jesus "" because there was no letter J in the English dictionary 2000 years ago , H.I.S name is Yahoshua and he was BLACK as was his father YAH . blessed be the most High .
Yes, no "J" in Greek or Hebrew. this is the early English rendering. No difference, He is savior and Lord. And color of skin, who cares? You will find many ways to avoid coming to the truth.
So...tell us...why, if you a knowledgeable person are you discussing things you can't even pronounce. Its rather embarrassing for a person who is visibly ignorant of power of the digital age and how you look after posting this utter nonsense.

I have always believed that santeria could be explained somewhat along the lines of voodoo and Catholicism. Would you agree with that statement.

Well as far as your video you really need to get your information right before you make a video because you were way off its ppl like you that give religions a bad reputation you do know that Christianity was imposed on to ppl by death if they didn't convert to Christianity so I don't thing it's wise to talk about any religion unless you have done your investage what and why we do thing in our religions and as sacrifices I know that back then Christianity also made sacrifices so learn more about the subject I've been in and out of religions and all I've gotten is that it's more a business than a teaching I didn't find in any of the scriptures that Jesus asked for money when he was amongst the people he came to save and with that I will close have a good life may your GOD give you all the good thing in this world
the whole catholic thing is extremely superficial..once inside you realize it is far from catholic....FAR FAR FAR AWAY.....with the only catholic thing being done are prayers in Misa Espiritual...my 2 cents...Odabo
right on dude!!! satan belongs in HELL!!!
Historical documents make this claim. Christianity is the true pagan religion.
"jungle magic"? lmao! seriously?
so called Jesus is the anti Christ and olofin is everything !! , maferefun Yemaya , my mother I will always love you , ibboru ibboya ibbo cheche .
Jesus Christ never existed.
