Edible bugs are good source of protein. Bugs like wild grasshoppers, beetles, crickets, mole crickets etc are normal foods to many rural villagers. Truth be told, I have never eaten insects/bugs yet. Maybe I'll try an insect or two when opportunity presents itself 😁😊
When I was a kid it was a village affair to catch abal-abal. We’d each carry a bamboo with a hole on one side and we catch them by hand as they get out of the earth. They would still be too young to fly high. After cleaning them my mom would cook it as adobo. Yummy!
I remember catching bugs at our farm in Ilocos Norte. I think my mom cooked it the same way, with extra garlic. This might be gross to some, but in lots of countries where people live off the land & not have grocery stores, it's normal to have it in our diet.
