Amen brother!! ❤Absolutely beautiful work 🎉 I use my deer for everything I’d make with beef! It’s the butcher, in my opinion, that messes up the taste 😂 I finally get to go to deer camp next weekend 🙌 🙌 my first hunt of the season ❤❤

Venison shanks and shoulders are my go to for slow roasts, blackstrap for steak style cooking.

Wow! This looks absolutely AWESOME, Great Lakes!! You outdid yourself this time, for sure!! Just curious . . . whatever happened to the carrots, celery and onions? Merry Christmas and God bless, my friend!

Thanks Joe, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I've got a whole bunch of awesome venison videos lined up that I've been meaning to make for years. Hopefully you and everyone else don't get sick of 'em!
As for the veggies from the braising liquid, I just discarded them after the braise was done. They could be saved for something, but I didn't have an immediate use for 'em this time.
      Merry Christmas to you!

Great looking meal! I had venison when I was a kid, but your recipe is better then anything my mom cooked.

I like your honesty I'll watch your vids in the future do one with squirrel.

I made 4 shanks as shown in the video and they came out amazing!! It's the best thing I've ever done with venison. I can't believe I've been grinding shanks or discarding them all these years. This is a game changer for me. It makes me wonder if a similar thing could be done with the neck or ribs.

I thought the same thing the first time I ever slow-braised them. So tasty. Thanks for your comment, and I'm glad the shanks turned out awesome.

This looks delicious. I have 4 shanks that have been in the freezer for two years. I’m going to try smoking them for a couple hours first then braise them and see what happens. I’ll also try to make a bourbon cream sauce.
People don’t understand that you can make any cut of (almost) any animal taste delicious if you prepare it the right way. A lot of wild game eaters only have experience with steak, roasts, or ground meat because they are either too scared to fail or simply don’t know how.
Btw, adding deeply caramelized onions and roasted garlic into your mashed potatoes will CHANGE YOUR LIFE!

Thanks for the comment. Smoking the shanks for awhile before braising sounds like an excellent idea (as does caramelized onions and garlic in mashed potatoes!)

Looks pro! You should try making a gremolatta to compliment this!

Thanks! I'm sure that would go great with this dish. Looks similar to chimichurri, which definitely works well with venison.

Just getting over sinus infection, heading out tomorrow to try to fill tags. Question... Ever tell a woman she had nice shanks? What was the outcome? Gonna try this recipe if I'm successful. ✌️

Ha! I have not done that. I suspect the results would very quite broadly from person to person.

My mouth definatly is wayering. When i process my deer i usually make jerky or ground out of the shanks. Next time i definitely will be trying this recipe

    • @GreatLakesPrepping
      @GreatLakesPrepping  ปีที่แล้ว +2

I've never thought to make jerky from the shanks. That works out pretty well?
In any case, you're going to love the slow-braise!

I have been stealing shanks from my hunting buddies for years - their loss my gain. Now a moose shank is just as delicious and will feed a family - just think a grown man’s calf roast

Nothing wrong with some free shanks!
