    I just think these look spectacular, especially for an initial entry into the space.

      agreed, the design is on point. very nice looking headphones.

      And they don't look like every other thing which is nice.

    • @Decenium
      @Decenium ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Dont really get this comments, looks have very little to do with performance, making a headphone look good can be done without having any knowledge of how a headphone works, its design, what does their "initial entry into the space" have to do with it, you can design a headphone without being in the space at all nor ever will be.

    • @hartyewh1
      @hartyewh1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Decenium Most manufacturers release garbage as their first model so give credit where credit is due. This is a decent headphone which is an achievement for a new player. Many people appreciate many aspects in headphones from desing to machining to materials and comfort. I don't really care about any of these unless they are particularly offensive, but who am I to tell others what they should like about headphones any more than what music they should like.

    • @eruilluvitar
      @eruilluvitar ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Decenium Oh, I know that looks have very little to do with performance. I also know that designing good looking things is remarkably hard, especially when you don't have experience doing so. Hence the "initial entry" part. While you're correct that anyone can design a headphone, it doesn't make it easy to do, let alone easy to manufacture. I was just giving props on the look, and purposefully did not comment on anything else, as I've never heard or even held these.

    Thanks DMS. Your comparisons with a wide range of well known headphones paint a vivid picture of what to expect which sounds like not bad but not outstanding either. It does look great though so I’m going to wait to see if it sounds any better under the new measurement regime before reconsidering. 🙂

    Story behind the picture: On reddit someone was hypothesizing ways to rig LCD headphones to their ceiling. It was a stock photo of someone sitting at a computer with a rope tied from ceiling to desk.
    Obviously since Im a rigger and have LCDs in the office I had to show people the correct way to rig headphones. With a bridal, shackles, a delta and some tie line. It was a crazy week of funny rigging photos on r/headphones.
    One of the best days I had at work.

    Good review. Honest, thoughtful and articulate. Short length was very good. But also non- committal conclusion. I have both Sundara and XS and like them both. Lacking wide soundstage, and 11:18 imaging weight are deal killers for me.

  • @NFStopsnuf
    @NFStopsnuf ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why not compare to the he6se v2? At less than 500, it’s been established that that offering is way more technically superior than the XS and sundara, competing with the Arya

    I am with you DMS. Weight would be the killer for me. It looks kind of cool. Sound is about where I want. I am happy with the Sundara headphone. I am not sure if this makes sense beyond my Sundara. I listen also to the Focal Eligia. So if maybe this wasn't so heavy, this could be fun. Not too expensive might be worth a listen. It is a hmmmm headphone. Not one I am pushing to get.

    • @PantsaBear
      @PantsaBear ปีที่แล้ว

      Moondrop hardly makes planar IEMs and the ones they do make arent very well liked lol, so probably nothing. The Venus sounds like a mid range Hifiman headphone with slight changes, that really is the best comparison audio wise

    Sorry for coming in so late - i just rewatched the video and i can't figure out why i would need a fully blown amp to drive an 18 ohm headphone? Please enlighten me^^ FYI - i own a Sundara which runs pretty much off of anything. I know it likes a little more juice to reach its full potential. Is the Venus really that powerhungry?

    • @TheHEADPHONEShow
      @TheHEADPHONEShow  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Power requirements are determined by both impedance and sensitivity. Sensitivity is often a larger factor. You don't need anything crazy with this one and many outputs will be sufficient. But having something dedicated is still recommended.

    • @wollis3802
      @wollis3802 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheHEADPHONEShow Thank you for your quick response! I'm actually doing a little research into desktop amps to have something dedicated instead of the EPOS GSX 100 that i currently use.

    for less than 400$ you get the Sundara, which is solid and complete, so I don't see how the Venus would compete.. we'll wait for the next Moondrop attempt :)

    • @PantsaBear
      @PantsaBear ปีที่แล้ว +6

      This is definitely a better headphone than the Sundara lol, without question. That's even before factoring in the awful Sundara cable, questionable comfort, and hit or miss build quality.
      That being said someone may not want to pay $300 more understandably, in which case yeah go for the Sundara. But in no way is the Venus not competitive bc the Sundara exists lol

      I own both. They're radically different headphones, with neither being "better"
      The Venus is an airy, balanced, detailed, planar sounding headphone with big leather comfy ear cups engulfing your ears. I dont find the weight to be a problem because its distributed very well, unlike the older Audeze headphones that shift and clamp towards the front
      The 109 Pro is a more punchy, v shaped, also detailed dynamic driver headphone with the best velour pads Ive ever used on any headphones in any price range that just sit on your ears perfectly with perfect clamp.
      Both have a good amount of treble but it sounds drastically different because of the driver type they use, both have solid cables to use, both come in a nice box, Mezes come with a carrying case. I think they make great headphones to compliment each other

    Please, if you change your target's, don't normalize the measurements to it. Or at least show the raw graph as well. Otherwise this resource will be much less useful to me and a lot of folks, wanting to cross-reference measurements and have years of experience reading those in that way and knowing wat they like.
    Cool video tho! Regards

    • @DMS3TV
      @DMS3TV ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Probably will show both raw and compensated. Though the problem is people will be attempting to cross reference raw graphs from different rigs that aren’t comparable. Like In-ear mics, the b&k 5128, and GRAS 43AG.

    • @katzolik
      @katzolik ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DMS3TVthanks for the reply!
      I understand those concerns but i think something like providing the rig and additional info on the graph should be sufficient.
      I would like to see ansi or iso norm standards like in technical drawings heh. That would be amazing!
      I'd expect people to be able to differentiate.

    I still don't get why the 4-pin XLR hasn't caught on from the DT177X GO...
    It's so much nicer to have a single cable.

    • @hartyewh1
      @hartyewh1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Many higher end headphones have or are used with "fancy" cables that can be rather heavy and cause fit/balance issues if they're only on one side. People might also differ on preferred side and some might find it a cheap studio headphone-like design. AKG does it on most of their headphones I think.

    • @Jamvan001
      @Jamvan001 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You then have to pass another wire up and over the headband to get to the opposite cup, and in this style of suspension headband there isn't really an elegant way to hide it. It also has to bypass the earcup swivel mechanism on the way up and over, and on the way back down the other side, by just hanging out in midair which again is an ugly solution that can lead to breakage. Stray wires hanging out of this thing would ruin the ultra-clean industrial aesthetic, and for no real benefit.
