Traditionally Shepard’s pie is made with leftover roast lamb which is minced up with onions and gravy (some people like to put other veg in the mix as well but that’s just personal preference) Cottage pie is generally made with fresh beef mince and veg. Both are topped with mash potato and baked in the oven.
I love how you and Lindsey don’t take each other too seriously and can have a proper laugh together.

Shepherds Pie is made with lamb (as in shepherd!), Cottage Pie is made with beef. Both have mashed potato and cheese on top.

All of the extra bits of the pig- we call that 'Scrapple' in the States. It's the snout, skin, liver and other leftover bits chopped up and formed into a loaf and fried up for breakfast. It's really good, I highly recommend.

Hereth the lesson regarding cottage and shepherds pie, shepherds pie is made with lamb, cottage pie is made with beef or mixed left over trimmings the housewife had to hand, both of these could be heavy with offal, following the traditional Sunday roast the cook of the household would take leftover veg and roast meat and put together a host of dishes for the week, quite often they would bulk out stews with new veg this would then be able to be used in pies, casseroles, hotpot, cobblers they would save any meat slices to have cold with pickles and potatoes. poultrymans pie is made with chicken, turkey, duck, goose, guinea fowl, etc. these are then topped with mash and optional cheese, some people will make a Cumberland pie by using chunks of meat instead of minced meat (ground for the Americans) this can be topped with mash and cheese or use sliced potatoes to make a hotpot, or make some savoury scones and cook on top of the stew base to make a cobbler (can be any stew or ground meat base) then you obviously have the fisherman’s pie, and there’s one that’s Rabbit, venison, Pheasant, and any other game meat, this is then served either cobbler or hotpot style, I’ve heard it called the poachers pie, the gamekeepers pie, and one restaurant I went to called it the the farm and countryside pie, it was full of veg and had a root mash topping (carrot, potato, swede) and served with red wine onion gravy, and a lot of aweetheart cabbage, green beans and peas. It was phenomenal, but also pre millennium.
All of these have regional variations but essentially came down to a traditional English housewife learning what her family would and wouldn’t eat and adjusting her recipes to it, I’m talking around Industrial Revolution times.
The Mrs is hilarious (gotta admit i have mistakenly tried to drink from a spoon before too! It happens when your ice cream has melted into and/or is disguising itself as a milkshake😂 )! Love your chemistry and she definitely takes your shenanigans in stride! Taking the cheese off the pizza slice tho....

Shepherds Pie is Lamb mince, Cottage pie is normally beef..Mash and cheese.. Of course you can have "Porky piggy pie" Minced pork or "Chiclen lickin pie" made of poultry.
