Hello Pete, Great Video as always! regarding the issue of the top menus not showing their contents and freezing the software; all you got to do is run Screen4 in compatibility mode. Right click Screen4.exe and -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for" -> Choose" Win Vista (SP2)" OR "Win XP (SP3)". Then run the software and it should all run sweet on you. Cheers Lee
Thanks Peter! Just installed the pendant and should have done so years ago! I find all your videos worth the time. I was building a Joe's 4x4 at the same time you were although mine was a cast cnc version. Cheers!
So now I know how you did it when you helped me Peter. Another excellent educational video and it gives me confidence to try things for myself. Thanks again. Cheers, Gareth
Thank you Peter for this helpful video. I was trying to follow along with Screen4 but it was messing up my screenset when I put the LED on the screen. I uploaded your screeenset and everything is working. Problem averted. Thanks for making that available.
Another great video Peter! Thanks for the acknowledgment in the auto Zero script! It’s always fun to tinker around with those. I’m going to have to get myself one of those pendants. Glen
CNCnutz (Peter Passuello) just ordered the pendent from EBay Canada could take anywhere from April15 to June 15 It’s usually months by the time stuff gets here from China lately. I’ve had stuff shown up 4 months after ordering. But well before then I’ve already asked for a refund LOL. It always on a “slow boat from China” And when it does finally show up, its always a surprise as to what it is that came in the mail. Glen
I sure you will wonder how you did without it. I'm a bit the same with my ebay purchases. I never know what it is that turns up and after spending time feeling the packages I finally open them only to find I invariably get it wrong. Cheers Peter
Hi Peter, love your videos, there brilliant. I couldn't edit the emergency stop button and get to work the way you showed in the video, but I was able to get it to work using the screenset4 editor. Thanks for helping us dummies, and love your cents of humor.
hi, and thanks. iv got your metric screen set open nicely, iv set all the xyz buttons on the pendant in hotkeys, did the e.stop hot key in pins+ ports, saved it all, but.. im missing something, none of the buttons on the pendant actually do anything yet? no estop, nothing.. (the virtual pendant does do some jogging) i'll have to go through your vid again, see if something clicks. i have reverted to the standard 1024 set . went to reset the hot keys (as you probably would know) wasn't necessary. but still the pendant responds to the setting of the keys, but wont actually jog the step motors. I'm still just widdling in the wind, i don't really know what I'm doing yet.
It's the standard 1024.set screen set. I also noticed when I open the mdi the up and down buttons don't work, meaning they don't increase by 5%, it's stuck at 10% . It's a 11pm here in upstate new york so I will play with it in the morning. Thanks for your fast response Peter.
Out of curiosity did you try downloading the screenset with everything already set up in it with the exception for the A keys which I don't have. Cheers Peter
Hi Peter, your videos have been very informative. Regarding the pendent you are customizing i have a basic question. My machine has 4 linear and 1 rotary axis. Y axis has A as slave in Mach3. B is rotary. will i be able to use this pendent. Regards.
Peter, you did it once again! a GREAT tutorial. I was able to customize my Screenset 2010 to work with my Ebay Pendant. Thank you for taking the time to share. Greatly appreciated.
Great video! Thanks for pointing out that the LED can't be added directly to the button region, and requires the LED to be placed outside the general window area before 'sliding' it to the desired spot. That behaviour of not being able to make the initial LED drop could certainly create confusion - mainly because it's not doing something that one would it expect it to do. Nice screen design features though!
You could add a button to the screen and add what ever feature you want to it. Alternatively you could assign a key in your keyboard to do it instead. Cheers Peter
Interesting video..my question is, when you edit hotkeys for example x++ is 37 which is left arrow...according to pendant it is 102,,, does it still left arrow if I pressed in keyboard??? what will happen?
I will take a look at Screen4. Currently, I'm using MachScreen V1.70, but I have some issues, because it seems, I cannot change the Z and diameter wear, in the toolset woth a OEM DRO input box. Right now, I am stuck to a button with vb script code SetToolParam
interesting issue with mach 3 since swapping steppers.. On my mach 3 part display , all my parts are backwards .. the Z axis is correct, but x and y are flipped .. ALl my jogs move the right way .. any ideas?
You have wired your steppers such that they are running backwards to how they used to run. Start from the beginning and move each axis one at a time using gcode and make sure the correct axis moves, it. Moves in the correct direction and the DRO reads correctly. Eg increases or decreases as it should. Cheers Peter
Hey Peter, I had a problem with the menu freezing on a windows 7 pc as well and got it to work perfectly by setting the compatibility mode to XP sp3 and disabling desktop composition. Cheers Phill
Thanks Phil, Just gave it a try and it no longer locks up but the drop down menus only appear if you drag the mouse below the menu you selected. Not perfect but a vast improvement for sure. Better than locking up. I'm using Windows 7 pc bit. Cheers Peter
Thanks Peter again you have done an excellent job in explaining and showing how to get this all done. I have a question, I discovered that I can use a numeric keypad that connects with a USB plug, and have successfully used the up, down, and left right buttons to move the router around, this is a good deal not having to be tied to the keyboard all the time. Now since i’m a penny pincher and really don’t want to splurge on a real Pendant, could the other buttons on the numeric keypad be modified to do a few of the functions like a real pendant? I think this would be an excellent tool for these of us who aren’t ready for a pendant for any number of reasons.
A USB numeric keypad was my original pendant and they work well. The pendant I use is basically a keypad in a much better configuration. You can use the process I show to configure the keypad keys to do whatever function you want. Cheers Peter
WARNING: I used your info to update my 2 CNC's for touch plate LED. Before doing it, you should make a copy of the 1024.set and place it on your desktop. After restarting the Mach3 mill, the LED did not show up where it was suppose to. There is no way of editing the LED after it's been placed. Luckily I had my other CNC to get a copy of the 1024.set and try it over. After 5 attempts I finally had it where I wanted. One CNC is on windows 11 with Mach3 usb board and the other is XP with rs232 board. I was able to edit on the older XP but not the windows 11.
Thanks Peter, I have the newest version of the same pendant as you, I got everything setup and working except the job buttons. I watched the video several times and did exactly what you said but still can't get that to work.
Very strange John. If you email me the screenset you created I can have a look at it and see if there is anything obvious. Cncnutz65@gmail.com Cheers Peter
Hi Peter. I came across this video you made years ago. It seems the links to the Screen4 software on your website link are no longer working. Can you check it and advise. Thank you!
Very thorough. Thankks. I wish this video was up when I originally set up Mach3! Haha. (Good feedback too about Screen4 instead of the standard screen editor and will help if I proceed with... I'm thinking of having a separate monitor just for the table display (upper right hand corner of the standard 1024 screen set) The existing one is very small (especially so for a table that takes a full sheet of ply) and I think it would be good to see what is happening as well as having access to all the other controls. (I'm aware you can switch screens, but this doesn't seem as convenient as having two monitors) Cheers, David
Hi Peter, Very nice and educational video. I have a different model Pendulum from the same manufacturer, HANDWHEEL CONTROLLER 4AXIS. By chance do you have a video for this model or can you guide me and others to get these functions operational? Thanking you in advance Stay safe, Gerd
Hi Peter. I am new to CNC and thanks to tutorials like yours I am making good progress. If possible I would like to solve a problem with setting "GO HOME", when I run it mach3 returns setting 0 (zero) Y axis, X axis and finally Z axis, this way it ends up breaking the milling cutter when hitting something, how could I modify the instruction so that it first takes the Z axis to 0 (zero) and then the other axes. Thanks again for your tutorials.
Hi Ariel I think if you do what you are suggesting you will continue to break cutters but also destroy your stock as the cutter is dragged over it. Cheers Peter.

Hi I just trying to get any information on have to set up ATC tab (screen) in mach3 but don't get any helpful information. Can you help with that have you set it up?

Any suggestion on a pendent that is of better quality and that is designed fro Mach3 that I can purchase?
Hi, Peter Thank you very much for your quick response, if you allow me another question? Would you recommend spindle refrigerated by air or by liquid? thank you very much, Victor.
I personally like air cooled because I don't like mixing electricity and water. You can get lower speeds with water cooled but there are ways around that by adding additional fan cooling to the spindle. Water cooled spindles are quieter but once you start cutting they are just as noisy as an air cooled spindle. Air cooled don't need pumps, buckets of water, antifreeze if you live in a cold climate where the water might freeze. That's just my thought. Cheers Peter
Hi Peter, I bought a pendant, but when I tried to install it using screen 4, I could not get any of the keys to register as hot keys. Am I missing something here? The power light is on on the pendant
The pendant is nothing more than a keyboard in an odd shape. Windows should load a driver and then the keys should work. HELLO GOOD AFTERNOON MY NAME AND VALDINEI I AM FROM BRAZIL I AM NOT FINDING THE MACREEN4 SOFTWARE FOR DAWLOAD YOU WOULD HAVE IT TO SEND ME THANK YOU VERY MUCH I WILL WAIT
I set up my pendant today with no problems thanks to your vid. I have a question about edge finding in Mach. Your videos are so clear and thorough, maybe you could explain the wizard and or other devices or method to accurately find X,Y as you would with a canned macro using touch probe perhaps?
We are going way back in time to episode 105. It was a quick video answer to a question about setting up my pendant and when I finished I thought I would make it public as an episode. I just didn't spot the problem with the screenset at the time. Cheers Peter
Seems there's a little less grey in the beard back then too. ;-) Thanks for revisiting this; I do enjoy being able to reconfigure my pendant. Your settings are very sensible.
Hi Peter Great tutorial, very useful. I like script of -Auto tool zero- good idea. But I have a persistent problem with script of -Jog rate- 10% and 100%. - Error on line 1 - Argument not optional -. Can you please check if i wrote down well the script: SetOEMDRO 3.10 Thank you very much. Greeting from Slovenia. Bojan
Hi Peter, Have you ever considered switching to or using UCCNC? I have 2 CNC's router/mill's and use Mach 3 on one and UCCNC on the other just to get an idea. I started of with Mach 3 way back but find UCCNC a little easier to work with and a lot more user friendly (if I can call it that). I know other people might and will differ but that is just my take on it. I didn't know about Screen4 so I am going to give it a whirl...Keep it up :)

For those without a pendant, is there a way to setoemdro so that it works on the screen tab? would be great if it did, Thanks Peter, Great Videos!
You could add a button to the screen and add what ever feature you want to it. Alternatively you could assign a key in your keyboard to do it instead.
Cheers Peter
Is there a pendent like that but on bluetooth or wifi.?..i could not find one.
There are wireless pendants for use with Mach3 but not in this style.
Great video, how do you get screen 4 read the pendant keys for changing the hotkeys. Thanks for posting!
As per the video. Press the key and the value will be filled into the box.
Cheers Peter
Interesting video..my question is, when you edit hotkeys for example x++ is 37 which is left arrow...according to pendant it is 102,,, does it still left arrow if I pressed in keyboard??? what will happen?
I will take a look at Screen4.
Currently, I'm using MachScreen V1.70, but I have some issues, because
it seems, I cannot change the Z and diameter wear, in the toolset woth a OEM DRO input box.
Right now, I am stuck to a button with vb script code SetToolParam
If you run Screen4 in the XP Compatibility Mode the top bar no longer freezes the program.
Hello Peter very nice video. I wonder if i change the screenset must go to motor tuning tab and fix steps per min or leave it as it is
Hi Mark
Motor tuning is unaffected by changing the screenset. I Du a video a while ago on changing screensets. Checkout episode 130.

I really don't know. Without your wireless pendant to test I have no idea.

Thank you, but how do we add other axes?
Another great video. Have a great day.

Nice one Peter
Thanks
Great channel. Thanks!
Thanks David
I set up my pendant today with no problems thanks to your vid.
I have a question about edge finding in Mach. Your videos are so clear and thorough, maybe you could explain the wizard and or other devices or method to accurately find X,Y as you would with a canned macro using touch probe perhaps?
Peter, what episode number are you referring to that this video is correcting? Thanks
We are going way back in time to episode 105. It was a quick video answer to a question about setting up my pendant and when I finished I thought I would make it public as an episode. I just didn't spot the problem with the screenset at the time.
Cheers
Peter
Seems there's a little less grey in the beard back then too. ;-)
Thanks for revisiting this; I do enjoy being able to reconfigure my pendant. Your settings are very sensible.
Don't remind me.
Cheers
Peter
Hi Peter
Great tutorial, very useful. I like script of -Auto tool zero- good idea.
But I have a persistent problem with script of -Jog rate- 10% and 100%. - Error on line 1 - Argument not optional -.
Can you please check if i wrote down well the script:
SetOEMDRO 3.10
Thank you very much.
Greeting from Slovenia.

Hi Peter
I figure out, i put a dot, instead of comma. Now it is working well.
Sorry.
Bojan
Glad you got it working.
Cheers
Peter
Thank you.
I actually use UCCNC most of the time in my day to day machining.
All I can say is, supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
I'm speechless
No I did not, I just followed along with episode 208.
