  • Luke tells Juliane about all the rings he has juggled since 2001, and why Cathedral Rings are now the best rings for how he juggles in 2024.

Excellently said. As a long term friend and accomplice of Cathedrals, I never felt I could make a genuine review, even though I really do think they are incredible for what I do as well. Thanks for sharing!

I use large size rings- the 40cm cathedral rings juggle wonderfully and they are leaps and bounds above the 40cm babache when it comes to comfort. My only gripe is that color options are a bit limited right now but that'll most certainly get better as time goes on!

Excellent retrospective and review. I bought my first set of Cathedral rings at the IJA festival last week and absolutely love them!

Regarding 'square-like' edges - they probably will get rounder over time if you juggle them for some longer time, because they erode gradually as a result of drops. I experienced it when I had bought a new set of my Mr. Babache's 32cm rings. I noticed the new had more squared edges compared to old ones and realized that those old actually became like this with time and juggling. Sometimes after a drop you can feel this thin, almost scratched off, line of plastic which easily can be removed with your nail. This is it - wearing off and having the edge becoming rounder in result.
    2 fun facts:
    - new rings are lot more likely to bounce off each other when one going up and the other going down collide in perfect alignment, whereas old one would rather slide along the side of the other in similar collision,
    - you don't need to practice on a hard or harsh floor to see them eroding - I practice in a place with wooden floor and it is as I explained, though it may take several weeks to notice it happening.

Really, the Play rings were way too square. I spent an hour with a drill sander making ONE ring the right shape. No amount of juggling was going to wear it down. It was the INSIDE edges that were too square, so dropping wouldn’t help. Play juggling have now changed the mould for their rings to fix the issue. It was way worse than you think.

@@lukeburrage Seems, then, Babaches are made of softer material. Funny thing is I never paid attention to inside edges, I only did after you mentioned it. And surprisingly, they differ - old Babaches are round and new are square, but it never bothered me - I never felt any difference, even while juggling a mixed set at at time. Babache must have changed the mould too, after all, but the other way 🙃 However this 'square like' inside edge is a little softened here. To be precise - it is trapezoidal, as corners of the cross section are cut off (or again - rounded, hard to say, because its width is very small - a fraction of a millimetre).
