    I loved watching Lost in Space when I was a little girl in the 60's! I loved anything to do with space, UFOs and aliens, and Lost in Space was really inspiring to my imagination. Looking back at it now, it seems so cheesy, but, I have so many good memories about watching it, when I was little. Watching the episodes now, I really appreciate Jonathan Harris' character Dr. Smith, OMG, he was so funny, just stellar comedic acting by this wonderful actor. Really miss him now that he's passed on! Bless his heart!

    @mrbrucewayne631 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    As one who has watched the show for over 50 years, I have found that this was one of the best, as it had found an opportunity to find these adventures for Both Will and Penny, and sometimes both, and on almost every episode, Dr.Smith fostered that along with the Robot...........His best and most revealing quote, was to Will when he said.." Don't be in such a hurry to grow up Will, it isn't really worth it!".
    And this revealed his message, which was to allow the adventurous child in each of us to live on as long as possible even into adulthood..........playtime and imagination are very important, because before you know it, youth has escaped and all we are left with are memories....perhaps fond memories!
    Each of the other special characters, would ask as they were getting ready to leave, that Penny and Will would think of them from time to time in those fond memories.
    Go back and just listen to the treasure planet with captain Tucker and notice that even just listening to the episode is quite relaxing...........these people went on adventures, and there was no overt sex, or violence....just adventure of a type that can bring out the child in all of us if you let it.

    • @clemsonbloke
      @clemsonbloke 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the contrary, a professional doesn't try to steal a show from its stars. Remember that Guy Williams (the dad) was supposed to be the star. Harris forced his way into things with forcibly rewriting his scripts and doing whatever he wanted. It is surprising he got away with it and wasn't fired. The show could have been so much but it ended up being a campy program that was very little on science or science fiction or even space travel. I mean that stupid episode with a man dressed as a carrot, please. Jonathan Harris was huge in his own mind, his selfish ways made the other actors suffer. Those actors were not very happy about it either. June Lockhart had a much better resume and was a bigger star than Harris then, imagine how she felt being reduced to a backup actor and not being in many scenes. Harris was selfish.

    Fabulous! Honestly, what would the series have been like without Dr. Smith!? And the fact that Mr. Harris was able to finagle essentially creating the character "on the fly" as it were, under the nose of the mighty Irwin Allen and end up being supported in his creativity by him speaks volumes about Mr. Harris.

      Think of Richard III played by Rowan Atkinson - something like that - with a cackling machaevellian twist.... It would have been a true pleasure to see that one!!!!

    I, George Finkelstein, worked with Harris in 1963 on a morbid piece called "The Bill Dana Show". What bile!! Racist as a Mississippi High School. Harris, however, stood out as he ALWAYS did. I'm 89 now, not much farther to jaunt down the old road of life, but I still remember Harris. Supremely talented. Should be recognized as one of the greatest thespians of the 20th Century. Why he isn't, and some other non-talents are, is a mystery.

    I can recall (odd things we remember for whatever reasons) being a boy during this shows initial run and asking my Dad why Dr. Smith was a 'Special Guest" when he was in every episode. He pondered it for a second, shrugged and said he didn't know why. Now I do-apx 53 years later. Thanks! :)

    You hear the words "Lost in Space" and 99% of people will think of Dr Smith or the Robot right off. Not an insult to the others it's just a fact.

    Thanks for the upload Paul. I like Mr. Harris who is now gone. Lost in Space was before my time but I have seen every episode on Hulu which has not only all three seasons but also the first one without Harris in it. I cannot find the show on youtube.
    I do believe most of the actors on that show were underrated and unfortunately typecast because of that show. Bill Mumy was just as good an actor as was Jodie Foster as a kid and I love all her movies. I wish Mumy had not been typecast so much from that show so instead of music and other things, he could have gone on to real Stardom as an adult. It's a shame because he was a boy genius like was Jodie Foster a girl genius. There was no comparison with Ron Howard imo. Mumy had the real acting talent the most. Even the others like the guy who played West could have done a lot more than he did. They could do a new LIS TV show up to date but would need to have great special effects and not an evil Smith but a simular one as original series and fights with a modern robot which could lead to huge movies like Star Trek but had it not been for LIS there would never have been a Star Trek since in the 60s, Networks would duplicate a series so Bewitched brought Genie, Monster's the Adam's Family and Lost in Space brought Star Trek. I do like Star Trek and wow, what a success that series turned out to be in many forms.
