If they do this right they will rocket their credibility and name into top rankings IMHO. The MG4 is already praised as a good drivers car so the groundwork is there to achieve this.
I can see a big demand for this car, but clearly, it will be a 'look at me' vehicle for around town, so 400km plus range will be heaps. Even I want one. MG is a badge to watch. Exciting things to come.
I would have one to impress myself. It’s magnificent. There is nothing NOTHING like a convertible. I have a Y and I would prefer a beautiful country ride in a 1995 Miata any day of the week. THIS car is a nice compromise for me. Beautiful!!! Thanks Electric Viking ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
Same here, I’ve had two Miata ‘s. The only downside of the mx5 is that Mazda is not going to be able to make an affordable electric mx5 anytime soon. Never expected MG to be the car brand to be the first to fill the gap of a small two-seater convertible
That looks stellar. Affordable? Same ole problem..nope. However there is a market for this car..albeit a small one. Teslas roadster made the same noises in the beginning, it has yet to be produced in numbers..but it was built to captivate, to show what's possible in an ev. It did that. This car also captivates and shows what's possible, well done MG! Let's see what happens next.
The Tesla Model 3 Performance weighs 4048 lbs and costs as little as $43k brand new with the US tax credits. My Model 3 Performance is running 0-60 mph in 2.84 seconds with rollout subtracted which is how it is typically measured by the magazines. Honestly, I don’t believe their 2.6 second spec for 0-100 KMh. The horsepower and weight they have specified won’t come close to reaching that number. Why isn’t the Tesla Model 3 Performance considered the best Performance value? It is much cheaper and probably equally as fast.
Looks great. Pity it's not a 2 + 2 like my 428i convertible. Had an MGB convertible in my youth so will definitely check it out when it arrives in Sydney.
@@johnsmith-cw3wo You are right, 99.9% of the time ! as it happens I used to do a lot of long-distance driving in Australia, and on one occasion there WAS a Ferrari going the other way, hundreds of miles from anywhere. When I stopped at the next town to refuel, the attendant said "guess what I just served"; yes, it had been that Ferrari and the owner was driving it from Sydney to Adelaide, distance 900 miles. If I could afford a Ferrari, I would not use that stretch of road. Too great a risk of hitting a kangaroo or feral goat or feral pig.
@@johnsmith-cw3wo You and I seem to share an opinion about Ferraris! I have several times ridden a motorcycle hundreds of miles, including the Nullarbor crossing. Once did 2000Km in under 24 hours on an XJ900s Yam.
Great to see a Tesla stand at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this week. Optimus robot was there on display. Model S and X were doing drives up the Goodwood hill. Great to see Tesla showing their wares at one of the biggest vehicle events on the planet. Lots of other EVs at this event this year eg., Rolls Royce Spectre EV; Lotus Eletre, Caterham project V electric sportscar; Caterham 7 EV; World premier of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N; Hyundai, Lotus, MG and Polestar had big stands at Goodwood. MG cyberster sports car was also there plus the MG 4 XPower and the MG EX4 concept rally car. Ford had the Mustang Mach-e Rally car there and loads more EVs.
Hi Sam, Thank you. Interesting demographic as regards convertible cars in Australia, we love them but the percentage is low, perhaps because the majority of car's are in the luxury market, Lexus, Mercedes, Porsche, BMW, Audi. Mazda , Morris mini, Mustangs perhaps the more affordable. This MG may change this, also convertibles were mainly driven by older drivers with the means to buy them. Looks are everything and now acceleration of a motor bike wow, there go the licence points. Great posts
In fact I think a lot of Miata owners must be interested, but... this MG weights twice as much. Mazda has done everything to save weight, and there's a reason for that. Furthermore a test of the MG4 performance model showed it's fast in a straight line (faster than an e-Tron GT), but handling cannot be compared to the current hot hatches. But preferences change, rules change, so we have to accept. I'm waiting for the < 1000 kg hot EV. That might take forever.
I've said on this channel a few times now that the first company that makes a car that looks like a roadster and goes like a roadster and is affordable will do really well. This is certainly appealing, that's for sure, but $100,000 is a lot.
That is a very pretty MG. They should sell everyone they make. It is pretty expensive so it will address a small market but every automaker needs a "halo" car to represent the brand. Ford has the Mustang, Chevy has the Corvette. VW has the ID. 4...
This is definitely the sort of car MG should be making based on the history of the brand before the Chinese bought them out. It does actually look good too. The sooner all the big V8 or V12 Supercars are laid to rest, the better.
@@italianmaestro3045😂 Haha, loud, noisy engines that cause cars to vibrate, whilst emitting stinky petrol fumes that could kill someone in a confined space? No thanks! @Lofyne ops sorry if your appliances are called souless because they don't transmit any sort of emotion as all evs produce and deliver power in the same way, oh also don't forget the depreciation as the more u drive the more u lose money quickly
This isn't a sports car, it's a GT. it's way too heavy to be a sports car - the MX5 is a modern take on the classic British sports cars like the old MG's, lotus's and triumphs. So not sure what to expect 6) I would buy one, if it is 40.000 US$ or Euro 7) But it is more likely 60.000 Euros or more.
$80,000 Australian! wow, me no afford. But me no afford nothing. When a price is given in American dollars, the safest bet is to double it for Australian dollars. They always charge us a bit extra
Thanks Sam love the look of the MY just have to wait and see what it drives like but it looks like it's doing 100 mph when it's stationary another nail in the ice car coffin thanks for the vid hope your family is all ok sending you all love and positivity from the UK
After seeing this MG I can see a competitor coming out with a mass market convertible. Something like the Mazda Miata. A single motor convertible with an LFP battery. Something that would be cheap, fun and easy to maintain. Maybe BYD could come up with something?
Yep. Another aspect of the massive disruption of all the entitled and overconfident legacy automakers. It looks fantastic. Where can I get one? It is an interesting question why Tesla has not decided to create a sports car from the Model 3 which would be right in this performance and cost slot.
The MG sportster vehicle sounds interesting, but I just need an EV that gets me to the grocery store, not down a Dragstrip. Looks like the Tesla Plaid S now has a competitor on the Dragstrip with this MG Electric vehicle. The fancy vehicle doors are interesting, but just another high cost repair if they become defective. Anyway, thanks for the information on this vehicle.
Cool your jets Sam. . The curb weight, at a hefty 4,079 pounds, sets a record for an MG sports car, but the top speed is reported to be 124 mph. So That is nearly 1000lbs heavier than most McLarens. The Cyberster would be decimated on a track by nearly all McLarens. And with a Top speed of only 124 mph,all Ferraris are way faster. So, when SAIC says this new MG will beat McLarens and Ferraris,1. I’m sure they mean acceleration in a straight line and 2. They are speaking “ Marketing talk”.
0-60 in 2.6s? For $40-60K USD? That's all you really need to sell it are those stats alone... Basically that's like giving everyone in the world keys to a Ferrari or Lamborghini and I fully approve..
It is definitely the best looking (hopefully) lower cost sports car in a long time. An MG "B" for the future. P.S. We paid $2800 1966 dollars for the original MG-B.
Google say that is 280k in today money. That is pretty much today Miata/MX5 segment. I think cyberster will be more expensive. But it will sell like a hot cake if they manage to pull a 280k usd price tag.
yep this looks nice, easy on the eye. will a 6-foot person fit in it? as a kid always wanted a convertable, maybe now that I am 40 years older I will be able to afford one.
It looks great, and I wish it well. Seriously. Shall not be buying one though. It's out of my price range, not practical for my needs, and I prioritise economy over performance. Thanks Sam.

I agree with Sam. That's a nice looking car. Based on looks alone it should sell well. MG should be able to sell all they can manufacture.
What about the software?
And will it be possible to sneak one of these into the USA?
If you have connection everything is possible

This & the MG 4 x power is going to drive a lot more people into there showrooms
Totally agree, they are hitting the sweet spots on both counts 👍👌🙏
Wow the X power, it has the x power for sure, glad I didn’t order the mg4, the x power is on my shopping list

Great looking car. Isnt the Tesla Roadster faster?
Yes, it is. This is a cheaper and slower option. Yet will feel nice and fast for impoverished people
Moreover 20 years later when all cars are ev you get the bragging right to say you own one of the very first EV sports car.
very nice outside, good price, inside looks like a gamebox

Weight is pretty irrelevant and you'll find the car really won't feel any less nimble.
I Love It!
350kw / 1800kg no chance 0-100 in 2.6 sec. But very cool.
You are thinking in terms of ICE vehicles
EV has torque, acceleration until it hits parity
And 62 miles/hr, 100km/hr is blink in the eyes

Looks like the Miata’s boyfriend in EV form.
Or girlfriend 😊
