GVB R-net Amsterdam Metro/Sneltramlijn 51
De Amstelveenlijn is sneltramlijn 51 tussen Station Zuid in Amsterdam en Westwijk in Amstelveen en rijdt sinds 1990 in deze vorm, tramlijn 5 deelt het traject met deze sneltram tussen Station Zuid en Amstelveen Stadshart.
Vanaf 2 maart 2019 zal lijn 51 op houden te bestaan in deze huidige sneltramvorm omdat de Amstelveenlijn omgebouwd gaat worden naar de Amsteltram, een nieuwe tramverbinding tussen Uithoorn en Station Zuid in Amsterdam.
Tram 5 naar Amstelveen Stadshart zal na de verbouwing blijven bestaan, maar lijn 51 naar Amstelveen is verleden tijd, deze zal tussen Isolatorweg en Centraal Station rijden.
The Amstelveen line is a light rail(sneltram/fast tram) line 51 between Station Zuid(South) in Amsterdam and Westwijk in Amstelveen and runs since 1990 in this form , tram line 5 shares the tracks with the light rail line 51 between Station Zuid and Amstelveen Stadshart.
From 2 march 2019 line 51 will end it's service as a light rail because the Amstelveen will be transformed into the brand new Amstel tram line , a new tram line between Uithoorn and Station Zuid in Amsterdam.
Tram 5 to Amstelveen Stadshart will still run after the big renovation of the line, but line 51 to Amstelveen will be history, line 51 will run as metro between Central Station and Isolatorweg.

We will miss the change from 3rd rail to overhead that was so typical for the beautiful Brugeoise & Nivelles built emu's for the Amstelveen metro extension, changing at Amsterdam Zuid station. But don't worry, similar changeovers can still be seen at the Rotterdam metro system. However, adaption of the loading gauge by the extendable doorsteps will be something of the past. Line 51 will have it's extensions out permanently, since all Amsterdam metro lines now have a width of 3.00 meters. If an extension to Schiphol Airport is realized, both lines 51 and 52 will probably be extended there.
In Rotterdam it is somehow different in that the voltage, the rails and the width stay the same despite switching to overhead line. It very much stays a metro that way albeit with level crossings and direction indicators. While metro 51 really transformed into a tram. In Rotterdam they also weren't particularly fond of it from the beginning. It was a cost cut operation a cheaper option. But people would rather have had under or overground metro. Metro's that came after that became overground from the start, like to Capelle de Terp and Nesselande which is special in that it is only one station at the end of the B line that has 3rd rail. So the pantograph goes down to take 3rd rail at that end station to switch the pantograph up again a few minutes later when going back.

Prachtige compilatie. Ook heel mooi om tijdelijk de R-NET (en gekoppeld aan GVB) kleurige metro's te zien op de sneltram. Wat vind jij van de toekomstige plannen?

Ik vindt het zelf jammer dat de sneltram verdwijnt in Amsterdam. Vroeger was het mijn lievelingstraject omdat metro en tram hier samen kwamen.
Verdwijnen van rail vindt ik altijd jammer

@@RailPublicTransport klopt k vond het als kind al jammer om de 5 boven bij Zuid te zien verdwijnen. Jammer dat die nieuwe tram geen snelle opties heeft om richting CS te gaan.(heeft iemand al overigens een idee van de benummering van de Amsteltram)
@@hartstukken Ja dat heb ik als kind ook meegemaakt en vond dat ook jammer dat tram 5 niet meer op het oude Zuid/WTC stopte tussen metro en sneltram , wat betreft de nummering, geen idee want tram 5 tussen Amstelveen Stadshart en Westergasfabriek blijft rijden, alleen de nieuwe Amsteltram tussen Uithoorn en Station Zuid moet nog een nummer krijgen
@@RailPublicTransport dat nu toch 25 alleen rijdt die nu nog tussen Amsterdam Zuid en Amstelveen westwijk in 2024 wordt de lijn echt uitgebreid naar Uithoorn Centrum

Is it true Amsterdam metro doesn’t allow taking pictures of trains or stations? Bc there was a time that I was taking pics on the platform, and a staff just came to me, and asked me to delete it.
Officially you need permission for it,
I had those experiences a lot.
But they can't force you to delete it
Only to stop for the moment
I just move on and ignore it
But those rules only count inside GVB locations such as inside vehicles(privacy of staff and other people) and inside metro station(enclosed area), from the street they can't say anything cause of the public area.
Ik snap echt weinig van de constructie tram/metro/sneltram. Mix van vanalles dat ook overal rijdt. Die lijn 5 lijkt toch gewoon een metro zo?

why does the government allow people to park their cars on the street? that's a subsidy to cars. that land could be used for higher value purposes and we could instead just give people the cash value of the parking space, so they could receive the benefit even if they don't own a car.

wat is nou de bedoeling van die pantograven op en neer?
Lijn 51 rijdt als metro tussen Centraal Station en Zuid op de derde rail als stroomvoorziening, maar tussen Zuid en Westwijk rijdt hij als sneltram en deelt tussen De Boelelaan/VU en Oranjebaan het traject met tram 5 die met een bovenleiding rijdt.
Ook is het veel veiliger omdat hier ongelijkvloerse kruisingen zijn.

Hoe is dit een metro? Welke metro rijdt met een pantograaf een overgangen. De metro is ooit uitgevonden om verkeers hinder te voorkomen. Ik woon zelf in coventry Engeland daar hebben ze dat echt niet hoor.
