ডাক্তারি ছাত্র 'সিদ্ধার্থ' থেকে বাংলা রক ব্যন্ড Cactus-এর Sidhu! কিভাবে নিজের স্বপ্ন আর বাস্তবের সংঘর্ষের সাথে লড়ে Success পেলেন তিনি? কিভাবেই বা নিজের Passion-কে নিয়ে পূর্ণ করলেন নিজের জীবনের Dream? সেই স্বপ্নপূরণের গল্পই এবার Josh Talks Bangla-এর মঞ্চে।
সিদ্ধার্থ শঙ্কর রায় ওরফে "সিধু",ডাকসাইটে "মুখ্যমন্ত্রী।" উত্তরাধিকার সূত্রে ডাক্তারি পড়লেও, গান-বাজনার শখ ক্রমশ পরিণত হলো ভালোবাসায় ও শেষে রোজগারীতে। মিডিয়া আর বান্ধব দৌলতে নাম ছোট হয়ে হলো "সিধু।" আশির দশকে কলেজফেস্টে ইংরেজি কভার গাওয়া ব্যান্ডের রমরমা দেখে বাংলা ব্যান্ড খোলার চিন্তা। কার্যতই, ইংরেজি কভার দিয়ে যাত্রা শুরু প্রথম প্রথম, হঠাৎ একদিন লিখে ফেললেন "হলুদ পাখি।" এই কবিতাকেই গানে রূপান্তর দেয়া নিয়ে শুরু হলো 'ক্যাক্টাস'। ওয়েস্টার্ন মিউজিকে বাংলা পদ- এই নতুন ধারণা অনেক প্রত্যাখ্যান পেল, কিন্ত দমল না ক্যাকটাস, বরং এটাকে এড্ড্রেস করলো 'বৈপ্লবিক'-এর তকমা দিয়ে। প্রথম পারফরমেন্স কুড়োল অনেক প্রশংসা। একাধারে মেডিসিন আর গান বাজনা চলতে থাকলো সিধুর।
ইন্টার্নশীপ, আই.টি.ইউ- আই.সি .ইউ ডিউটি, প্রাইভেট নার্সিং হোমে চাকরির সমান্তরালে বের করলেন ক্যাকটাস এর প্রথম অ্যালবাম 'ক্যাকটাস'।ঈষদুষ্ণ প্রতিক্রিয়া পেলেও, জনপ্রিয়তার পারদ উঠতে লাগলো 'নীল নির্জনে' সিনেমায় গান গাওয়ার পর। এরপরে এক দশক ক্যাকটাস উপভোগ করেছে তার শীর্ষস্থান। এরপরে বদলালো বাংলা গান, বাংলা ব্যান্ডের দৃশ্য। আজও ক্যাকটাস গেয়ে যাচ্ছে , আনন্দ দিয়ে যাচ্ছে তার এক দশক পুরোনো শ্রোতাদের।
A medical-man-turned-singer-songwriter Siddharto Shankar Roy has become the face of 'Bangla Band' culture in the eighties. Started out as a cover band, 'Cactus' under the leadership of "Sidhu" has seen ups and downs in the then music industry of bengal which was heavily dominated by eastern music. Despite criticism and rejections, first single "Holud Pakhi" managed to receive a lukewarm response among the audience. They first found their rave with the album 'cactus'.
For a decade, they enjoyed the peak but Bangla band culture kept on changing. But Cactus plans to entertain its old listeners with the same charisma.

Autograph reminds me an entire childhood may be which i can relate to , in 2003 Cactus performed with 11 Dhaki (Dhak players of Bengal) at Golfgreen , Phase IV , it was obviously a post Durga Puja Scene & the temperature was a bit cold (nearly 18 degree or so) .
Sidhu da offered me a cup of coffee when i approached him for an autograph , The way he treated a 13-14 years old kid ,really shows what this guy is all about.
He is a such a person you can straightway relate with your own brother or friend, instead of turning round with an word called celebrity.
I guess Sidhu da is still not very comfortable with the world called "Celebrity" , damn gold hearted person i have ever met in my life..
