I love the way matt is really natural on camera now and is really dialled into the conversations. Early days it was like Ians tests and matt was help . Now its just like two good friends testing and having a chat and a camera just happens to be turned on. Keep up the great content !
There are things that Matt has said in the last couple of videos that are light years ahead of where he was two years ago. I have been watching since the beginning and can't believe how much I have also learned from both of them.
It’s easy to be blown away by Matt’s length and think geez, I can’t do that, but his fundamentals can be accessed by anybody with the dedication and the coaching. These videos are tremendously democratic that way. Many thanks.
Quick comment. I've worked with George and the first thing he'd tell people is that you need to get the first box pointing more at the ball (Ian's comment at 9:43 is exactly what happens when you use the box without turning). If you have a deep turn it will make it easier to get to the ball from the inside with a downward attack angle while keeping your right elbow bent until just before impact.
My first time using the G-box - I added 6mph+ of club head speed b/c it helped me rotate significantly further - close to 10 yards of length picked up on a 7 iron
Both of your swings are looking beautiful these days. Watching you is inspiring for me, working to get my swing into a happy place to be where I want to be. Even watching you with the training aid is helping me get an idea on my own sequencing - that visual feedback of hip and shoulder rotation. Great video again, thanks
You guys have missed a key feature which is completing a full turn. You need to try and get the line on the lead box close to over the ball with what will feel like a 3/4 arm swing. Then in transition increase front bend by getting lead box moving closer to lead thigh. Ian is correct that he feels over the top as he is used to excessive side bend. By making a full turn he will be deeper at the top so has room for hand path to come out but will need to learn how to shallow the club head compared to his old move of shallowing his arms to compensate for lack of depth
Great video: Ian, I suffer from a similar swing flaw often getting a little stuck behind and tilty and its difficult to get to my lead side. My swing was to arms driven. When I focus on my leg work, I get good rotation. Fells like I start the downswing with my leg work and do nothing with my hands and arms on the downswing. Problems creep back in when I really try to jump on one. George Gankas and Larry Cheung's methodologies are pretty similar. When you sequence it properly it results in some pretty good ball striking. Get out and chase it around the northeast weather will be putting an end to golf season soon.
TXG is going to cost me $100!!! I was thinking of buying this to help my swing over the winter and with your review pushed me over the edge. The g-box really fits in with what Larry is working on with Matt.
Been a George fan for the last couple years, but I’ve never purchased a training aid and couldn’t justify the g box. I imagined I’d probably not know how to use it then chuck it. Watching Ian’s response and my similar swing struggles, I just decided to go for it. Thanks for the reviews boys.
I get not telling us how to use it but coming from someone who has never seen or heard of this training aid an explanation as to what it’s supposed to help with or do would have been helpful.
I think the reason Matt was catching the box on the downswing is George Gankas recommends it to be positioned a little further around and behind your trail side as opposed to directly opposite the lead box.
It works..... have lengthen my back turn and my right arm (Back arm) comes down better because I could feel the boxes during practice.... better than putting alignment rods in belt loop.... I also use a camera during practice....
I have the g box bought it first day it came out when wearing the box my irons were about 9 yards longer ea it’s great and now there are about a ton of new ways to use it now
Good review, thanks for swing it! I bought the planemate prior to your review, love love love it for chipping and pitching- i feel it really put my In The right position and my game benefited from it. But the full swing i feel the planemate (for me) didn't get me to the right feel cuz the club is attached to he cord and such - seems as if the G-box solves that!

Lets see more training aid videos, regarding neutralizing swing path which is my goal as well, I'd love to see to what extent the EyeLine Golf Speed Trap works..
I struggle with path a little bit and flipping the club because my body rotates too quickly and then stop to let the arms flip through. I take lessons but I am still struggling. I saw your video on the plane mate as well. I know you can’t say for certain which one will help me better but which one do you think is a better overall training aid? Put cost aside. Love the videos, keep em coming. Thanks in advance
When I saw G-Box show up in my alerts I thought that it was going to be a completely different kind of video.....ooops sorry😜🤦♂️ It looks a clever idea, but there is no way on Gods earth that I would wear that belt (with wings on) with other people anywhere within 10miles! Call it vanity, but I can look stupid even without the help of black water wings!
OK, maybe it's just me but I think that Ian's swing is typically very rigid. With this tool he seemed to be very fluid. I feel like this would be a good options for people with similar issues.
I want one so bad... Fantasy shopped them the other day... they have a new one thats like 5' long and mounts to the ceiling, supposedly more accurate as well... 🤤
Interesting device. It seems helpful, but only with an experienced teacher/pro to help build and guide a lesson with it. Seems to be more a product that a pro would buy and use in lessons, rather than someone buying and using at home alone.
It is great because it forces you to not drag the arms behind when you are rotating hard. Far too many players get WAY too ahead with their rotation when they want to get more open at impact. It has to be done in sync with the arms. But it shouldn't be used rigidly. Rory Mcilroy's swing would not "pass" with the G-box set up like Matt has it.
The alignment rod works if you are only looking fo the visual feedback of how well you are rotating. One aspect of the g box, if I have understood it correctly, is to feel your trailing arm to get in the "slot" which ben hogan talked a lot about. It forces the elbow to stay tucked to your body until impact instead of extending which leads to inconsistency in the strike (fat and thin) and loss of power. This extension of the trailing arm also causes lie angle issues as Ian talks about in the video. You can also use the g box for loads of other drills which you can learn about on the Instagram page George Gankas has made for it. He uses it for correcting angles at the top of the backswing and all sorts of stuff. This might be wrong and then please correct me, but it is my two cents on it at least.
$100 is quite a bit less than the Planemate but I'm still uncertain how it 'works'. Is it a positive or negative feedback device - where your elbows do/don't make contact with the boxes? Or is it purely an awareness tool - where you sense the weight/presence of the boxes on your hips and develop better awareness of the hip-torso-arm relationship?
The former. On the backswing you track the front box moving towards the ball. And It's an avoidance drill on the downswing, it forces you to avoid hitting the back box.

Couldn't you do the same or similar drills with a driveway stake in your beltloops?
That stake gonna push your elbows through? The boxes are set higher than your belt I believe.
Is Matt naturally left handed or lead side dominant because he is naturally right handed?
Ian. Re your right elbow challenges, how much of that is driven by physical limitations??? Weak, tight, shoulder, upper back muscles...
