The mill workers toiled hard, but when they were denied their rightful dues-“Ghamache Daam” (the value of their sweat)-Dr. Datta Samant rose to fight for their rights, leading a movement that forever changed the city.
We’ll discuss how the closure of these mills and their conversion into malls had a devastating effect on the workers' families. Many of those who lost their livelihoods turned to crime, including the parents of some of Mumbai’s most infamous underworld figures. Very few people know about history of mumbai, post independence, textile mills in central mumbai were the pride of the nation, world class textiles production, post assasination of Datta Samant, process of converting textile mills into malls and towering buildings started from lower parel. Rest is history.

Even though I was never in Bombay but i know the story that how mills closed in bombay due the unions strike and their involvement to raise the salary of the mill wokers. Then their is a competition grows amongst these unions due to which many killings happened. There is also underworld involvement in these union vs owners clashes. Datta Sawant who was killed due to these clashes. Many mill workers joined underworld later when the mills getting closed. One incident was that someone from these union stabbed a woman of Godrej company.
