Believe it or not, six years and a pandemic after discovering your channel while trying to find videos about the region from where my ancestors came in 1880, I walked the Molo w Sopocie yesterday on a sunny May 2...with an immense crowd enjoying a day off between May Day and Poland's Constitution Day. Thanks again for all the inspiration you've given so many folks to head out and travel on their own and engage the world!
Sopot. The best small city on the planet. City of my early childhood. I remember winter of 1961. Temp drop to -30C. Baltic Sea was frozen, so theoretically you could walk to Sweden. My grandma and we used to dance on ice near MOLO ( Sopot pier) LIZGINKA, what's traditional dance of joy
Hi guys. Ryszard Kapuscinski-polish traveler, journalist, writer. There are English translations. You will love his books. "Football wars" would be nice to read in Spanish translation though;)
+Jerzy Konarski - born and raised in Sopot. Spent my whole life in the USA. Missing Baltic Sea like crazy ;-) However, visited Trojmiasto a few years back, and boy, has it changed...and not all for the better.
Been away working for a while so I have 8 vlogs to catch up on with the wife , glad to be back and glad to see so many of your adventures available to watch , best wishes from London
You should check out Gdynia and Starogard Gdanski. Two of the most beautiful cities and towns in Poland. Gdynia has a gorgeous beach and seafront. Starogard is an old school Polish medieval hang out.
Guys - go to Mandu restaurant in Oliwa district (Gdańsk), next to it you will find a lovely park with palace - Park Oliwski :) and please visit Gdańsk Fair - last day tomorrow! greetings from Gdańsk! :)
I recommend Sopot - beautiful beaches - very cheap, they cook tasty and people are very nice and especially kind. I recommend everyone to come to Sopot and visit Gdańsk, Gdynia, Malbork immediately.
Guys, just have to say: glad you like my home town, hope you had a great time in Poland, just spread the words to your friends when you will come back home (USA?, Canada?). Thanks again for your video, ta.
It's called "Marienburg" castle in Marienburg city. The German Teutonic Knights built Marienburg and Marienburg castle in 1274. In a referendum in 1921 the region of Marienburg in West Prussia voted by over 98% to remain part of Germany. This was ignored and Marienburg and West Prussia became part of Poland and a little over 20 years later all of the 14 million inhabitants of eastern Germany and West Prussia were ethnically cleansed from eastern Germany altogether and replaced by Polish.
Speaking of West Prussia.... 95% of the population of Danzig was German before they were ethnically cleansed from Danzig. Of the roughly 421,000 inhabitants of Danzig nearly 400,000 were ethnically cleansed from Danzig and replaced by Polish.
Robert S Mileszko I founded Gdańsk and was the Polish king. When you add up all the time Poland had Gdańsk it adds up to 744 years, but German for 170 years, not including Nazi Germany. 85% of the was destroyed in WW2 so the city was rebuilt by Poles, just as it was built in the first place by Poles. Germany has nothing to do with Gdańsk, don’t try to rewrite history.
Friends :) Try "Placki Ziemniaczane" (potatoes pancake) or "Placki po węgiersku" (its same dish but this 2nd option has a delicious gulash on pancake :) ) highly recommend grettings from poland from Zamość City :)
The creamy version of beetroot soup : you most probably meant chłodnik (pronounced h-wod-nik), the name means basically that it should be eaten cold. It's made both on roots and the leaves(Chłodnik botwinkowy ) It's most probably spelled chlodnik in English
You can't be born in Sopot, Sopot don't have any hospitals. Any one who are iving in Sopot has born in Gdansk or Gdynia. Well, you can be born in Sopot if you born in your home, not in hospital
Well, I have my mother's birth certificate from 1940, during the Nazi rule, and it says Zoppot as place of birth. I don't know if she was born at home or not, but I just discovered yesterday her address and the house is still there...:)
@@wczymmogepomoc5878 yes you can actually when you are born at home. My mum was ;) Of course most people are born in hospitals so most people from Sopot are actually administratively born I Gdynia's hospitals.

When i used to live there (actually not in Sopot but pretty close) the entrance to the Molo was free. It was open 24 hours and you could have quite nice time there at worm summer night.

I'm not sure whether you already know that by now or not, but just in case - the creamy seasonal version of the beetroot soup, served cold during summer is called chłodnik, and there's also a variety of the beetroup soup called barszcz ukraiński, and that one is quite often creamy, with all sorts of vegetables added to it. The small dumplings in the variety you ate are usually called kołduny or uszka :) There's also a variety of the beetroup soup known as botwinka, and this one is made of young beetroots often along with their leaves. You can also find a soup called barszcz biały, but this one has nothing in common with beetroots, even though it has a similar name. Welcome to the fascinating world of beetroot soups :)
Really enjoying watching yours trip round Poland makes me homesick :) you've got to try pancakes with cheese and cream: nalesniki z serem highly recommended on hot summer day.
Not easy to find real Polish dairy foods. Generation Z (born 2005-'24) in Poland is being fed with chemical laden supermarket food products plus American fast food outlets' products. They're being entertained electronically with western style programs; they're not reading books like their parents & older cousins did. Polish youth is being stolen right under the noses of their elders, just like what happened in the Anglosphere & western Europe.
Hi! I am going this winter for erasmus to the university of Gdansk (in Sopot) and now a an doubting if I should rent an apartment for 5 months in Sopot close to the uni or in Gdansk centre and take the train to uni.. what should you recommend as you visited both🤗 thank you!
Hi Stephanie, congrats on the upcoming Erasmus semester! Both cities are great, each with its own very distinct vibe. Thinking as a former student, I probably would have chosen an apartment closer to the university and closer to friends. So if the campus is in Sopot, I would have chosen to live there, while still having the option of hopping on a train and enjoying Gdansk during my free time. But that's just me! If you don't mind the daily commute twice a day and Gdansk is your dream, you have that option too.
Hey guys, what a really nice video. I mean you couldn't of had such a nicer day. The sky was so blue, the water looked beautiful and you had the muscle men to look at. Ou LA la. Lmao. You 2 look like you have such a good time together. Keep them coming. Best wishes from Bethlehem pa
So glad you devoted a full video to Sopot and pierogi. Wonder if you'll ever food tour Russia. It's so awesome and there are not lots of You Tube coverage. You could fly in through Helsinki, get some Salmiakki and then delve into awesome dept of Russian culinary experiences.
Thank you! We'd love to do that. Russia is one of our dream destinations along with Japan and New Zealand. The visas are expensive for us and we'd need to plan it carefully around weather so maybe next year.
Are you still in Poland? Me & Wife would love to be your guides or just meet you. We're from Gdansk. We love your videos. Now by your recommendations we're in Bali & Singapore. But we'll be back soon.
great video, as always:-) Sopot is my favorite. When i was a kid we spent each summer is Sopot. You should go to Marlbork!! there is a biggest brick castle in Europe maybe even world.you should go to Warmia and Mazury -land of thousand lakes

However it just turned out, that they didn't really have any authority to do that and wanted just to join us for the beer, so they used the scare tactic as an excuse :)

About tickets: if you are using SKM to move between Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia, remember to validate the ticket before going on the platform. There are machines at the platform entrance to do it. Ticket that was not validated is not accepted by the controlling crew and may cost you a fine. You were very lucky - Baltic is a stormy sea. It is said that there is only one day in a year when there is no wind there :) The version of the beetroot soup - barszcz - Audrey had was served with small dumplings called uszka (little ears) and it is traditionally eaten as part of the Christmas Vigil supper. The most important feast of all in a year :)There is barszcz with lots of veggies in it like cabbage and potatoes - it's called barszcz ukraiński (Ukrainian barszcz) looks like this images.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.smaker.pl%2Fphotos%2F6%2Fc%2F1%2F6c13ed63d875af2d57527d45e416bceb_362397_55069e29a8eed_wm.jpg&f=1 and when there is a hot weather and hot soup is not needed to warm up, but we would rather cool down, there is a cold soup made of young beetroot and other veggies and the base of it is kefir - it is called chłodnik (roughly translates as cool down), it is served with egg and looks like this images.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=http%3A%2F%2F1.bp.blogspot.com%2F-cS5MwSyWKQ8%2FUcbNxR0X5xI%2FAAAAAAAACno%2FTo7w0G926Xc%2Fs1600%2FIMG_5174%2Bkopia.jpg&f=1 If you want a tip - go and look up Gdynia for accommodation - this is the youngest city of the Tricity and not so touristy. It has beautiful beaches, great Orłowo Cliff and generally is more modern and convenient than Gdańsk and Sopot. Sopot is a resort town not only for Gdańsk and Gdynia, but really for all of Poland, so it is very expensive.
I'm from Poland and I love watching how people from different countries just love Poland :)
Thank you! We sure had a great visit.
They don't like Poland!
Why? I see they really enjoyed being in Gdansk and Sopot. I don't know why you think they don't like Poland.

The most important feast of all in a year :)There is barszcz with lots of veggies in it like cabbage and potatoes - it's called barszcz ukraiński (Ukrainian barszcz) looks like this images.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.smaker.pl%2Fphotos%2F6%2Fc%2F1%2F6c13ed63d875af2d57527d45e416bceb_362397_55069e29a8eed_wm.jpg&f=1 and when there is a hot weather and hot soup is not needed to warm up, but we would rather cool down, there is a cold soup made of young beetroot and other veggies and the base of it is kefir - it is called chłodnik (roughly translates as cool down), it is served with egg and looks like this images.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=http%3A%2F%2F1.bp.blogspot.com%2F-cS5MwSyWKQ8%2FUcbNxR0X5xI%2FAAAAAAAACno%2FTo7w0G926Xc%2Fs1600%2FIMG_5174%2Bkopia.jpg&f=1
If you want a tip - go and look up Gdynia for accommodation - this is the youngest city of the Tricity and not so touristy. It has beautiful beaches, great Orłowo Cliff and generally is more modern and convenient than Gdańsk and Sopot. Sopot is a resort town not only for Gdańsk and Gdynia, but really for all of Poland, so it is very expensive.
Thank you for the tips and background information.
