i just finished state for my solo and ensemble this last weekend and i have found that finding bass clarinet solos that aren’t super boring and easy is challenging!! i might have found my match. this is perfect.
John Rarig was a composer, orchestra leader, arranger, and singer. He was musical director for the Sportsmen Quartet (of Jack Benny fame) for years. He was proficient on the piano and clarinet and was an extremely talented musician.
Very nice! Great advice on tongue position for low notes. I can't stand it when low notes 'blat.' Also helps if you have the right amount of resistance in the reed to match your mouthpiece.
Omg I am playing this piece right now for my Florida Band Association Solo and Ensemble! Its an awful piece, especially those altissimo notes right at the end. Its super fun tho, even tho i dont play it half as good as you do. Thank you so much for making this video! It will really help my performance
@@theboard1113 yeah, i was thinking thinking that too. It really isn't a hard grade 6 at all. But of course that varies upon the player. Some tend to be better at performing intervalic based atonal pieces such as this, and some have better technique for large scalic passages.
u gotta upload more

I have a question I play a the bass clarinet but when I play the high register and any note higher than a "G" it makes like a dunnn sound why is that.

Honestly, (I'm doing it in Florida for FBA solo and ensemble) I think it's easier than the weber concertina which is a 5 here for clarinet

I’m diggin’ the M22 cap.
Nice video. Thank you! Do you mind if I ask what model/maker your Bass Clarinet is?
Hey I have come across a problem where when I tongue from a high note to a lower one it stays on the higher register.
Same
Try lowering your toung. I dont know of it'll help but you could give it a try 😉
You can subtone into it (lowering your tongue) but it is better if you can imagine singing the note and adjust how open your throat feels instead.
You could try dropping your jaw, like you would on tenor sax. That might help.
You need to compose your own song
is this for a low c bass clarinet or am i able to play it on a low Eb bass
Nice
I noticed a bigger sound with that neck. Am I correct?
