Their fur grows super fast! I used to own an Airedale and hated the after groom look- but they usually go back to their curly furred self within a week:)
Love Airedale! Lived next to a day school and would find her leaning against the fence with 3 or 4 little hands sticking though petting her. She was perfect and had her own pet duck.😊
@@megb4613 Back in the day I bought a duckling for Easter. I know, but had the property to care for it. When my Dad said the duck was too big to stay inside in a box anymore, I had to teach the dog not to be rough with it. So I had a talk with the really good airedale. I told her it would "break!" She understood that meant delicate. Finally she decided it wouldn't break if she just sniffed it. The duckling saw the giant airdale nose approaching and honked it. 😳 I think the dog did a double back flip!!!! I got the dirtiest look from the dog. "You told me it would break!" 😡 They were best friends until the duck died. (In it's sleep from overweight.) When the duck built her nest, it was next to the dog's bed in a storage shed. Best dog ever.
I was so scared of my uncle's Airedale growing up. She was one of those dogs who had ONE person, and anyone else would get charged, barked at, even jumped on! Thank you all -- Sydney, his trainer, and Vanessa -- for showing Airedales at their best.
I have a Boston terrier, would love a big dog but I am getting a bit too old and unsteady to handle one. Would not be fair to the dog. The Boston (Dolly) is more than enough. At 16lbs she can still pull me over and run rings around me, but I am envious of your Airedale.
@@arthurwright255 - We just got lucky with someone who had an unexpected litter. Mom was an older giant Airedale, dad was an older standard so Ferguson is ‘only’ 95lbs. He has some medical issues but we’re dealing. He can definitely take me out if he wanted to but he’s mostly very sweet and pretty well trained with us.
my mother had a cairn terror when I was a kid. He was a major factor in me not being too fond of small dogs for quite some time when I was younger. He was very reactive and destructive for being such a little guy.
My late one was less of a terror and more of just a certified silly goose. But, then again, we adopted him when he was about 8. He was such a sweet and loving boy all the years we had him. I'd adopt another Carin in a heartbeat.

THIS IS THE DAY I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR! I have an Airedale Terrier and I was hoping you would do a video with one! I rescued my boy when he was 1.5 years old so he was never introduced to the groomer properly so we have had to do extensive training to help him and his groomer have a more pleasant experience! He is my clever handsome boy!❤
I've had three rescued Airedales over the years. The current one, Katie, looks very much like this sweet boy, save that her tail is stubbed off and she has a lop ear. Best dogs ever.
We got an Airedale/Beagle mix without knowing anything bout Airedales to begin with (never heard of them) and she turned out to be the most atypical dog I've ever known. It's absolutely hilarious when you know the dog knows exactly what you want from it, but they flippantly don't care to please you. It's been the most wonderful and hilarious ride for the last 16 years, but it takes a very certain person to deal with their natural disposition. A super rewarding relationship, but definitely not built for everyone.
We have a beagle terrier mix as well. Rat we think. She’s got the leggy legs and kind of shape face of a rat but everything else is beagle. Including ears. And we got both personalities and IQ. You can see her evaluating if she’s going to do what you want. You can see her evaluating if the treat is worth whatever you want her to do (or stop doing). Picks up stuff quickly but is too excited and food driven to actually do it. There’s the beagle. She’s a daddy’s girl and I’m the disciplinarian. So she goes and runs to him when I try. I am not sure what kind of life we have now but boy is it not the one we had three years ago before we got her! 😂🐶🐕
@@CarolinaGypsyhaha it's a hell of a ride. absolutely the ethos of "what's in it for me?" She even ignores other dogs in favor of humans because she knows that dogs can't give her anything to eat and throughout her whole life, she's constantly tested the fences. My wife had no resistance so my dog would just harass her all day long and wear her down lol On the flip side, the dog has a super sweet side and always checks on where everyone is. YES! I'm so happy you groomed an Airedale (and Sydney is beautiful!). We've always had shepherds but when our boy passed couldn't cope with seeing another for now (grief is weird) but then I saw Airedale pups and fell in love. We now have an Airdale boy called Gucio and he is a constant delight and the breed surprises us endlessly in a wonderful way. Living on a farm it is a constant challenge to care for his coat (especially as he likes to sit in the frog pond arrgh!). So your video is incredibly helpful, thank you!
I'm so glad that you finally uploaded a video of the dog that I grew up with. You're absolutely right about their characteristics; stubborn, independent, but also fiercely loyal dogs. My Dee Dee is no longer with us now but I do still think of her most days. I'm definitely going to have another Airedale in the future (and the hand stripping is a worthy compromise).
Vanessa thank you so much for featuring an Airedale! I have wondered if I missed a video on one somewhere and I have to say, thank you SO MUCH for shaving him. I have been an Airedale parent for 18 years now and I groom mine myself. The shaving is frowned upon as they’re supposed to be hand stripped but that just takes forever. He looks gorgeous! And his ears…again, frowned upon if they don’t fold according to the breed standard but my most intelligent Airedale, Zimri, who died in 2020, had ears like that and they just told you better than words what he was feeling. Love this beautiful boy!
I love airedales! I've owned 6 of them. They are the smartest, loyal and loving dogs I have ever owned! My vet. Once said you have to have a very strong personality to own one.❤❤

Couldn't reccomend them enough. They're great with small dogs and cats!
What happens if the coat isn’t hand stripped or trimmed down? Does the coat just continue growing like a sheep that hasn’t been sheared? Does the coat end up as a matted mess, or what?
@@ronsamborski6230 It's a very wiry texture so it doesn't mat easily. When we'd let our Airedale's hair grow out she looked like an adorable scruffy muppet! Just needs to be brushed/combed to keep their skin healthy.
