Remember from the 2nd story quest of Zhongli that "Rocks can store memories too but time to time those memories eroded" but think of it, Zhongli is the lord of Geo and knows everything from his experience. He knows the secret of everything and yet he's bound by a contract to silence himself from telling the truth. he's just dropping some clues in order for us slowly to get the truth of Teyvat. Just like Yanfie says "we can find and use the holes of a contract". He's helping us on he's own way without breaking the contract. And someday will know the truth of Teyvat.

Zhongli is also (to my knowledge) the only character who’s story quest name doesn’t match their constellation at all. His constellation is “Lapis Dei” but his story quest is called “Historia Antiqua”

No it makes no sense , it is the traveller who's talking about zhongli, not zhongli himself . It is writing in the point of vue of someone else , it is not " I have done this... " It is with he . So the traveller just put all the information he's got on a character, and he resume this in there . Also , it is not the traveller who is talking on his profile page.. it is a narrator, but who is that ? So that's normal the traveller knows there is only 2 originals gods!!

All of these informations are known by the traveller, because they found the information somewhere, or because they ask to the concerned person . Anyway, the traveller know a lot about teyvat , he basically know everything he collected in the archives ..
Another interesting thing about Zhongli, at the end of Liyue Quest at the Northland Bank, he says "I've *dwelt* upon this world for more than 6000 years" and not "I've lived for more than 6000 years", kind of implying it's been 6000 years since he arrived to Teyvat, not when he was born.
and something else i noticed , that the meteorite that caused the chasm is also happened before 6000 years, so is it possible that zhongli came with it or something?

Why is zhongli getting more and more mysterious whenever a new archon quest come out
This is why Zhongli is so keen on listening to storytellers.
That actually makes sense, it's the best way to check if anything has changed - my god XD

And in most of tales told in the game lore, we can see Zhongli disproving most of them, saying that's not what happened or that he fabricated some of these tales himself

Some things I noticed:
1. The things changed from zhongli's entry is not the same.... From the original seven up to position of "rulership". Which Nahida isn't really in a position of power, even up until the traveller's intervention she's more of a symbol of knowledge rather than a ruler as the Sages more or less do the ruling.
2. If zhongli is a descender, why the need for an another descender to record history? Erosion? But wouldn't that mean that other descenders are also prone to erosion? Traveller? Or much more abyss twin?
With that I thought.. Considering Zhongli knows Venti... I think this is more of that they are somewhat aware in the same way Nahida can remember scaramouche from a simple story that will make them recognize that something has changed. They're finding ways to hide stuff from irminsul, probably venti uses his bard songs. Zhongli engraving it on the earth (I guess) but well, by meeting the traveller, Zhongli just put his faith on traveller recording the history of teyvat.
Remember that it said the same before she died.
And also, he says that erosion was imposed upon him and that it is different. Most likely not even connected to memory loss
@@The_Enemy_of_Utopia. i do think it's more of the erosion is generally done by heavenly principles (or the previous translation... Natural Order of things). Especially the context of "Sealing my friend". Somewhat guilt in doing that to Azhdaha.. like maybe "God punished me for this, this is my karma" rather than a special punishment for him.
Even if nahida is not the rulership she still the dendro archon of sumeru and that still a fact. And zhongli has been trying to find a way to record things meaning hes been doing it for a long time the he found traveler that can record memories(not literally but sort of as a memory) coz perhaps hes bound to teyvat now that he also was affected by erosion imposed on him. But who knows.

I overlooked this one. In the space when the traveler and the gang were in. Since the traveler didn't teleport out there, maybe he can't teleport out. Xiao also can't get out. But Zhongli saved Xiao effortlessly while cooly walking away

I also think Mihoyo gives us a hint that Zhongli will take a part in our future journey in Ei's voice line about Zhongli, she says "So he made his choice, but I don't think his journey will end yet", as with that I believe Zhongli will take an important part in the future, just my theory.

Definitely all of the Archons are since the Tsaritsa (hope I spelt that right) is going to war against Celestia. I’m sure all of them will either help fight Celestia or go against the Tsarista… or well, basically whatever Hoyo decides

I'm a huge fan of the "Zhongli is a Sun Prince" theory, if you haven't heard of it, look it up. I feel like this goes hand in hand with it. Perhaps he was disowned by celestia, and since he was originally a celestial god, wasn't connected with irminsul. This is why there is no one left to share his memories, everyone else surrounding him is subject to that change. So he's completely aware but can't tell anyone or else Liyue goes boom
Zhongli is just built different, so different that he can tank all the change that comes with Teyvat reality changes. If he really is a Descender, then it makes sense why he is considered (at his prime) to be the strongest Archon. You don't live 6000 years because you are weak

TH-cam randomly gave me a notification that someone liked this comment, so I click on it and... BOOM!!! I AM BLASTED WITH MY YOUNGER SELF'S 5 STAR COOKED MEAL!!! I don't remember any of this. I forgot how much I actually loved Genshin and its lore. This is all so surreal. Guys, take care of yourselves. Don't cook yourself into memory loss.
I can feel people are gonna be replying that " he was never considered to the the strongest and no archon was ever said to be the strongest in the lore ".
I can totally see all the Archons and the Traveller teaming up to fight Zhongli before they storm into Celestia. The Archons all seem to very subtly show a dislike for Celestia, even Zhongli, even though whatever is in Celestia is their boss. However, Rex Lapis is not just the Lord of Geo but also the God of Contracts. He upholds EVERY contract he makes, no matter what. I'm sure whatever the Tsaritsa is planning is something that the other Archons know so they choose play along while also playing dumb. My guess is it's an uprising against Celestia. I speculate that Zhongli is also on the Traveller's side and will help their team because most contracts have loop holes, but the core of Zhongli's contract with Celestia is to be their servant. Zhongli can serve Celestia while also sneaking around with whatever loop holes he has.
Honkai Impact (another game by Mihoyo that also goes hard with it's lore) proves that Hoyoverse can make it super badass anime style fight scene. Imagine the Raiden Shogun slashing Zhongli with her planetary destroying booba sword the same way she slashed Signora, but instead Zhongli just tanks the entire slash. He is an immortal and immovable rock. No attack can hurt him and Zhongli has huge amounts fire power of his own. Speaking of fire power, I think the Pyro Archon will be able to probably throw hands and cause noticable damage since she is the God of War. War is her thing and Pyro is all about destroying, she has unlimited fire power (literally). I dove too much into fan fiction territory with this one 😅.
I think Guizhong dies because she did an Orobashi but.... unlike Orobashi she was able to make some records in her memories of dust and Zhongli has been slowly uncovering them ever since but in the codes he finds, he can't be punished because he never speaks.
I wonder if there are clues in the mythos of the Morax of the Lesser Key grimoires that hint towards the Morax of Genshin being a descender. Morax

@@AzA609 If Zhongli feels it right, he can sever a contract but only in death, but that's how it would be anyway, contract or no contract, any exemptions to the principles will be dealt with. I feel like this is something that will cement itself when we arrive in the nation of Natlan.
Zhongli still suffers from erosion. I think he has a similar story as the sibling, where he got integrated into Irminsul at some point and now can't leave Teyvat anymore.

This was definitely caused by Celestia, as the only new info we have on our sibling rn is from Scaramouche's voice line abt Pierro. He knows our sibling and the reason why they landed in Khainri'ah/Teyvat in the first place was because "The Heavens responded to the summoning".
The only heavens we know of currenty are Celestia
I'm pretty sure Heavenly Principles is implied to be the cause of Archon's erosion.

For the first time in forever I got suspected from something before you lol. When I first played the Zhongli's story last year, two things popped into my mind:
1- Ok, you archons fear from erosion, but trusting me to record history means either you don't have much trust in Teyvat's history keeping, or you've witnessed it changing(and this is not a change in the sense of how things are getting more glamorous or more trivial, like BIG changes).
2- 6000 years old, knows suspiciously good amount of things about the Traveler & sibling but cannot say due to contract, HE HAS TO HAVE SOME EARTH-SHATTERING INFO.
If y'all have ever noticed that the ascension gems have the dialogues of their archons as their description but the geo stone has something that zhongli has never said

His lore alone puts him in a different league compare to all the other archons. Also he's the only archon who didn't really needed any major help from the traveler. His archon quest is just him retiring and going incognito while testing his whole nation with a god he defeated thousands of years ago. He also knows a lot since it's hinted he knows about the other twin but made a contract to not speak about it, he also made another unknown contract with the cryo archon for the geo gnosis. Raiden's voice line about him literally says his story is not finished yet. Last but not least he's the god of china in a chinese game. This guy is probably gonna be a big villain or a big savior there is no in-between.

I did write a post on Reddit some months ago saying how interesting it was for Aether and Zhongli to share so many similarities design wise. I could not remember where or when I read that thousands of years ago a meteor fell from the sky and the date seemed to coincide with when Zhongli first appeared in the Teyvat, making me wondering if he too could travel across planets like Lumine/Aether.
and his ult is a giant meteor falling from the sky, maybe paralleling how he first fell from the heavens onto teyvat

At first, I'd say that the keyword is "in position of rulership". Nahida wasn't counted because she was confined and Akademiya was the one who ruled Sumeru. But now that you mention it, Morax is the only name (besides "Traveler") that is "unavailable " instead of being declined.
A thing Wei missed was, in the same Character Story it states that 5 of the 7 had departed (Died, if you prefer the Chinese version)
I think his contract (the one why he can't tell us about our twin) is also linked with him being a descender. I assume it says something amongst the lines of: "You know about the changes in Teyvat's history but are not in any way shape or form allowed to talk about knowing the truth with anyone (which includes descenders)." We also know that there is something wrong about the info of our twin in Irminsul, because the traveler has been to other worlds with them before arriving in Teyvat. I'm not sure why the history about our twin was changed but what is important is that Zhongli knows about it, knows about our twin, but isn't allowed to talk about the matter due to his contract with I assume the heavenly principles.

@@CattWithAHat okay wait you got me thinking now. this may be a stretch but it could also be the fatui/tsaritsa? because like @chnlw said in another video, they’re the ones trying to gain access to divine knowledge (irminsul) and they could potentially rewrite history. they realized zhongli wasn’t affected by the changes and had to make a deal with him. and that would also explain why the fatui have a whole bank in liyue. they need money for all their plans and who better than the dude who made all the mora. but like i said, a bit of a stretch
A theory: Morax is the first descender and lived in teyvat alongside other powerful gods for thousands of years. The heavenly principle descends to Teyvat around 4000 years after Morax first descend and manipulate/corrupt/dominate the gods of Teyvat to fight against each other, known as the archon war. The remaining 7 most powerful gods then given the gnosis as a gift when it's nothing but a leash and a symbol of who truly have authority over Teyvat.
It is also possible that the "archon war" is not a war of Teyvat's gods against other Teyvat's gods over the authority of Teyvat, but a war of Teyvat's gods against the invader heavenly principle, which later won by the heavenly principle where he/she rewrites the history and truly gain control of Teyvat. After all "History is written by the victors".
I'm sorry, I don't know that much from genshin lore yet, but do you think Zhongli might have ruled over the Chasm civilization and maybe Guizhong ruled over Enkanomiya and when the invaders came they nailed all those because they were loyal to the first descender. Then when they rewrote the history to be the "good guys", that's why they forbid all the ancient knowledge

I’m pretty sure the first descender was speculated to be the celestial ones or something like that and about the war im also pretty sure it had something to do with winning authority since there’s nothing about the heavenly principles in there
I have a theory.
All the "gods" we're from another world destroyed by a plague "the heavenly principles."
So they came to tevyat.
Guzhong perhaps knew of a way to rid of the heavenly principals an so they killed her believing that now the "gods." Will now have no chance of winning. However guzhong put all of those memories in her weapon (which she gave to zhongli.) so that in an untimely death Zhongli will have a way of accessing them when the time is right.
(I personally believe that she faked her death and took on another form perhaps ningguang but won't go into that.) however it's a puzzle and zhongli hasn't opened it yet perhaps it's meant for us to open and find a way to destroy the heavenly principles at the near end of the game. Perhaps the abyss twin knows of the plague that the heavenly principles is and is working with zhongli. I also think that zhongli cannot say anything about our twin because paimon is a spy sent down.
I know that I might be missing a few things but it's a small theory.

This does make a bunch of sense, however there is also another person we can consider a descender, no other than *Alice* .Why is she the one covering for the Wanderer’s/Scaramouches Collected Miscellany when it’s usually Dainsleif? Scaramouche did change the timeline after all, so Dain won’t know who he is. However, Alice most likely knows who he is, and considering how she’s pretty crazy in her “experiments” there’s an extremely high chance she’s the 5th descender (Zhongli being the 3rd, and Traveler being the 4th due to being in Teyvat when the fallen nation was collapsing)

I think Rukkhadevata, Egeria, and Alice are all shades of Phanes.
In addition if I remember it correctly, Morax in an Archon who descend from Celestia once a Year to visit and give guidance to Liyue. The way he was introduced to us that he is falling from the sky. It maybe a symbol or a hint that he might be a descender also.
Now it makes more sense that Liyue used to celebrate the rite of descension, literally celebrating when Morax descended from the sky.

P.s I'm still as shocked as everyone else. Zhongli has been drilling this phrase into my mind all the time in my team. It got thinking, "Well damn, those who share the memories are ded bro." Then this video pops up then I was like DEAR MF ARCHONS so THAT could have an entirely different meaning.

He does remember. I checked every character I was using one day namely Childe, Keqing, Kaeya and Zhongli after “that” Archon quest and while rereading Zhongli’s, everything is the same. He still “says” everything about Rukkha the same. Glad I was not the only Zhongli haver who noticed this
He maybe don't remember but he is the god of contracts, perhaps he notice some different in his contract or the contract have been broke.
@@anekiryota6049 no, the irminsul tree only hold information of the world, the change doesn't remake the reality of this world. What happen is real and unchangeable, remember the last scene of scara quest ? The vase is still broken, paimon just dont remember she broke it so zhongli contract may have been broken too that made him suspicious the change.
Honestly I couldn’t help but smile more and more as the video progressed, I have had the theory of Zhongli being one of the descenders before the traveler. Not only that, once I learned that Scara doesn’t let you name him “Morax” I just became more convinced. Not only that, do we even know Zhongli’s REAL origins? Venti is a wind spirit, Ei is connected to lightning and Makoto (I don’t remember her lore), and Nahida is a branch of Irmunsul.
Zhongli is probably a adeptus. But he's also referred as the prime of the adepti so he might be something higher than a adeptus.
In the Lore, ZhongLi is depicted to be a Mountain Dragon but not much is known about his life or his origins. The lore basically only focused on his time as Liyue’s Archon. Among the current Archons, he’s the most mysterious.

I suddenly wonder, what if the memory that got altered are only people's memory and their records, but not memory from ores like the memory Kunjun read in Zhongli's story quest.
Zhongli said the better (harder?) the quality of the stone, the stronger the memory. If Zhongli is likened to an ore, wont he be the hardest stone ever? That means his memory will be the clearest. Zhongli said his memory is good and he remember all his contract, what if contract is the way he engrave memory to himself? he might actually remember all his contract, regardless if the contractor and the content is erased or changed by Irminsul. If he ever made contract with Rukkhadevata, will that contract lost or will the contractor change to Nahida? Maybe he no longer know who Rukkhadevata is, but aware that his contract changed or no longer valid.
So that’s why zhongli says “where are those who share the memory?”. He meant the memory that is unaffected by irminsul !!

@Gnidel probably, since Irminsul can't change reality itself and can only alter the recorded history. (Like a computer file, deleting/changing the file doesn't mean it never existed; just that the computer can't access that file anymore because it was changed.) If for some reason the wine was erased from Irminsul, and he is a decender, then the wine whould be erased from everyone's memories, and he'd be the only one to remember it.
Or the recipe was lost, and everyone who knew about it died.

I read a lot of chinese webnovels and i also have a conspiracy theory... A lot of interactions with zhongli give heavy ""author/editor/reader" transmigrated into book knowing full plot" vibe... But as soon as he arrived to tevat was probably discovered and nerfed to be in bystander mode... Not being able to directly affect the flow of "the plot"/ history but using the loopholes in plots to induce small changes in characters. He's fully aware that the traveller (or abyss twin) is the book's MC or in otherwords "son of heaven" with the most "luck" as it's the "heaven's way". Maybe zhongli being able to become archon had something to do with that even though it was never meant to be, or maybe he replaced or was transmigrated into the original morax and was aware beforehand of his "death" in the plot therefore avoiding it. Maybe that's why "morax" doesn't exist anymore or had never existed in original plot.

Now, this theory is confirmed about the legends of Solar Chariot that fell to Tevyat, creating the Chasm. There's a story about how the Solar Chariot was repaired by people in Liyue and flew back into the sky. Almost sounds like it was a spaceship. This happened 6000 years ago, where Zhongli is still young. So there's a high chance that he came from outside of Tevyat with Solar Chariot.
It seems that all places where Descenders landed are significant geographically - Starfall Valley and Chasm. We should look for big holes in the ground.

Something I've noticed regarding the Dendro Archon, if my understanding of Irminsul's mechanics is correct (physical history remains unchanged but information is, things still have to happen but the reasons, memory, explanation can get altered) it's technically possible Nahida has been the third Dendro Archon.
Remember the "Rukkhadevata" who used her power to purge the Scarlet King's forbidden knowledge and then transformed into a small child? Wasn't a similar story not applied to Kusanali after purging Rukkhadevata's forbidden knowledge?
Kasala: In helping King Deshret to eradicate forbidden knowledge, she exhausted her strength, and her form became that of a small child.
Dunyarzad: Lesser Lord Kusanali once used all her power in a great disaster, which resulted in her losing her wisdom and memories of the past.
Dehya: Five hundred years ago, Lesser Lord Kusanali used all her power to help the people of Sumeru.
Kusanali didn't truly use her power 500 years ago to help Sumeru, she had barely been born if that. Rukkhadevata did, but since her memory was erased, credit for her actions was placed on Kusanali. Kusanali in her story quest describes "a warm feeling" like "I can no longer see the words on a piece of paper after they've been erased, but I can still see the slight indentations of where those words were written". Which I interpret mechanically as "Rukkhadevata was not erased in the sense of "she never existed at all", the imprint of her actions still exists on the world, even if a different story is being told about them"
It's hard to confirm unless a descender happened to witness it, but it's within the realm of possibility there was a Dendro Archon before Rukkhadevata who had to be similarly erased from Irminsul & had all mention of her supplanted with Rukkhadevata.
If it's actually the case, the implications could be quite large, as Rukkhadevata is credited with a lot of things, so it can become blurry which one did what:
- Maybe only the first one was friends with King Deshret & the Goddess of Flowers?
- Maybe the reason Rukkhadevata couldn't recreate the purple shade of the Padisarahs is that she never actually witnessed them, the first one did instead? (Nilou & Dehya's dialogue in "The Trail of the God of Wisdom" quest)
- Which one built the Wall of Samiel? The Varuna Contraption? Created the Aranara? Founded the Akedemiya?

A theory I heard is that Zhongli was one of Phanes shades, the God of the Sun. When Phanes conceded defeat, they weren’t killed immediately because their death would brought ruins to Teyvat. So the Second Who Came kept them alive but they are never to tell about what happened during their era and who they are but they can still uphold their celestial duty.Zhongli “descended” onto Teyvat after the war ended. He upholds his duty to Phanes by adding humans he met that is in trouble, although he himself never truly understands humanity.
I do believe , Phanes were never truly defeated. During the war between Phanes and the Second Who Came (Celestia), both sides are equally of power. But the war brought ruins to Teyvat, and Phanes being the loving God he is, he conceded defeat to preserve Teyvat.

Hence they aren't affected by the memory changing thing that erased the memory of the first Dendro Archon. Potentially making Zhongli a possible final boss or atleast as important to the story as the Traveler? I'm really interested cuz Zhongli is my fav character, and if this true, highly doubt anyone can play him the same way.

An archon has always been replaced when one dies. Like Tayvat just.. replaces the archon when said archon dies after a series of events. (With the exception of venti bc hes obvi not dead) for eg Rukka no more=Nahida replaced her. Baal dies=her sister replaced her. The Hydro archon=has been replaced (idk enough about the other two archons so i'll not mention them here). Every nation NEEDS an archon- its the natural order of things. So why has Tayvat not replaced Zhongli? Isnt Morax ment to be dead'?? Could it mean to celestia, Morax is still the archon even though Liyue think hes dead? Bc no replacement has come to fill his role.

Omg someone finally noticed and made a video about it! I thought of this right after the sumeru quest. His story quest was the first thing I thought of when we realized history could change, and then I noticed the other details even before the scaramouche naming thing. I’ve been discussing this at length with my friends and was so sad no one else seems to have noticed everything (but I guess I’m the only lore addict there haha). I love how you even included the stone tablet line of “Rex Lapis descended” too! The naming thing just really I also noticed that his line about Nahida only talks about her saving the Irminsul (ie the Archon quest) and nothing else (as if he doesn’t know much else about her), unlike Venti’s line which implies that (he thinks) he’s known her before this. Anyways, thank you for putting the theory out there!
Also to add: he says he’s “lived in this land for over 6000 years”, not that he’s 6000 years old, which may further imply he originally came from elsewhere and is also older than 6000.
Im just waiting to another zhongli quest that he talks about nahida but instead says Ruk… nahida just to see if the traveler react to the name he was going to say and confirm to him self that he is the new descender (not sure if he know about the last three)
It’s also very suspicious considering how he’s has a 2000-3000 age gap compared to Raiden Ei and Venti (Rukkadevata is a weird case, since she holds the memories of Teyvat so it can be true that she’s as old as Zhongli)

I always thought that this was refering to his post as Archon and how he doesn't want to be one anymore, but he would still help his people. But what if he was refering to taking control of Teyvat actually?
After watching the video something did not sit right. Why would Celestia make another descender an Archon when they themselves are a descender that took the power from the last "owner". Celestia also seems to be the insecure ruler-type, if we make the analogy that they are the Demiurge.
What if when Zhongli descended, he became the God of Contracts since his very first contract was with Celestia, and the agreement was for him to not try to take the power from them.
Zhongli might have not even wanted to do it, but played along since contracts might have been in his nature from the start, or did it since it secured his survival. He clearly likes humans, so he might have did it to prevent another war like the one between Phanes and the first decender, to protect the people.
No matter the reason, this might have calmed Celestia and to profit from having such a powerful "pawn", they made Zhongli an Archon.
So in his trailer, by "not wishing for dominion", Zhongli might have been refering to not wanting to take the place of Celestia. But since he likes humans, by "not letting thr common folk suffer" he was refering to begining to wish to topple Celestia anyway in the end, since through all this time, he witnessed much suffering of the common folk at the hand of Celestia.
But since he has a contract with Celestia he is powerless. Though, the contract might have not said anything about helping another descender, the MC, take power instead.
Him saying that line is a continuation of the set up the story teller has at the beginning "and before he set out he spoke these words..." hence zhongli standing up on the stage himself and remembering what he said ages ago when he decided he would protect humans from other powerful (shitty) elemental beings even if it means having to take the responsibility of being archon as a consequence.

It could also be that the change from "Only two remain of the first Seven" to "Only two of the first Seven remain in positions of rulership" could also be referencing a different archon, like Venti, which is debatable since Venti does not want to actually rule, but Nahida could be otherwise, so yeah, he might still say two without them changing it because it now refers to a different thing.
But this is also possible
The thing is that the description afterwards continues to mention Zhongli and Venti as the ruling archons. Nahida could be explained as being made prisoner and the sages ruling instead, but then the description would indeed have to change to 1 archon ruling, since Venti doesn't rule Mondstadt. Coming every once in a while to help in crisis isn't ruling, so...
Don't forget about the Church of Barbatos. The people of Monstadt perpetuate Venti's "rulership" on their own, even if they're effectively making up their own rules about what that means. But that's exactly what Venti prefers, so who cares?
