Great adventure, you both are lovely and this place looks beautiful! Also really appreciated the history... as archaeologist is one of my favorites part! Following your channel guys, like 128, well deserved 💙
I am so pleased for lan finally managing to see puffins. Regarding Grace Darling, l remember learning about her in primary school. Those photographs are wonderful, and how kind of the gentleman to allow you to use them.
Clive is an amazing photographer and SO kind to share his photos!💕 I'm thrilled that Ian finally had his perfect puffin day! 🙌🙌 Thanks for coming along! XX
Are you feeling lucky punk? Ian looks excited for the Puffin hunt. Dara your braver than me, I can’t be near calm boats. Might give the sea sickness tablets a go as i do feel like im missing out on a lot. Such a lovely sound isn’t it? Wow thats a lot of guillemots, that photographer got some cracking shots. Yes those seagulls are a pest aren’t they? The seals seemed happy and curious to have you pass. Wow Puffins on grass walking around, beautiful. Never seen that many in one place before. Good job everyone was wearing hats! Well done Clive! 👍
We DID feel lucky and we really were! Kwells is a fab medication for motion sickness, I highly recommend. Although I can only go on boats when the water is TRULY calm! The birds were all phenomenal. It was an amazing day! Definitely the most puffins I've seen in one place. And they are so cute walking around and taking off and landing! Thanks for watching, Nick and Jill! XX
Thanks so much Yasmin! I was thrilled to get some good video clips, and truly chuffed to have Clive share his gorgeous telephoto pics! Thanks for joining the premiere 💕
aw seahouses many happy memories i have as a child going there eating fresh seafood on the beach and camping out as a family ,great video loved it.edited cos i forgot to say im pleased ian got finally to see the puffins and you both had a good day .
I'm so glad that you have happy memories of that area! It is so beautiful. What a wonderful place to camp as a family! As for eating seafood, your comment made me laugh. Wait until you see the terrible mistake I made there at the boat launch 😬! It will be in this Friday's video...
The memorial to Grace Darling in the churchyard in Bamburgh is magnificent, with praise from Queen Victoria. There is a small RNLI museum opposite which has the boat she used.
Yes, I saw that museum but sadly did not have time to visit it. It was great to see her memorial in Bamburgh and then see the island and lighthouse where her heroics happened 💕
Hi, it's Aidan here, I've subscribed from my other channel, soon to be launched. Very informative and full of charm as usual. Fantastic photos by Clive, but don't underestimate your videos shot on the smartphone, they're good too. I have never seen a puffin, but the next best thing is watching your video! I've heard of Grace Darling but I'd forgotten the exact details of the story. I loved seeing the painting - I think classic paintings look great in videos! Northmumberland makes me think back to the 600s and 700s when my namesake lived on Lindisfarne!
Yes, St Aidan! His church at Bamburgh is wonderful to visit. That's where Grace Darling's memorial is 💕. Good luck with your new channel! We look forward to checking it out!
What a magical tour! I’m fascinated by birds. These were some of the most beautiful pictures I’ve seen!! Wow! So happy for Ian!! Great video Dara! ~Cara 😊
Thanks! It WAS magical! Such a privilege to see gorgeous wildlife up close. Because of the barriers, we couldn't get too close to the birds, but with my 3X telephoto and Clive's mega telephoto we were able to feel like we were right next to them 🩷🐧😁. Thanks for watching and commenting Cara!
Absolutely love this, the puffins are amazing, bet Ian was thrilled. Fabulous photos too. ❤ Think the gull is the black-backed, larger than our usual Cornwall pasty eating ones 😂
Well done, and what a beautiful day. A very precious area, including the not so far away Holy Island of Lindisfarne. It looks like you both had a great day. I have so much respect for the miles, and footage you create all over the UK.
Thanks so much, friend! We were excited to FINALLY visit Lindisfarne and Bamburgh Castle... those videos are coming soon! After next Friday's video about some noteworthy food I ate in Northumberland! XX Dara
Hi Dara i had to come see this after you mentioned it . This was adorable and the footage was cute and stunning with great info. They really are beautiful birds and its so good Ian got to see them after so many attempts ! Loved this :) ~ Anna ❤👍
I think it’s fabulous that Puffins are being celebrated. I’ve spent years lying on the wet cliffs of North Yorkshire just to catch a glimpse. I’m a little saddened that dormouse are being recognised with a 1p coin. Coins of lower denomination disappear so often. Dormice are beautiful and deserve to be remembered as more than just a character in a Lewis Carroll novel.
Hi Dara. I was taught about Grace Darling in my tiny, Welsh-speaking 'Ysgol Babanol' (Primary, or Elementary school) on Anglesey, way back in the 1950s. However, unlike you, I have never visited Northumbria; despite having spent three years as a student in glorious Durham. I was always hurtling through Northumbria on the train, en route to visit my Scots relations in Edinburgh or Elgin. Did you get to visit Lindisfarne Island, too?
Yes, we finally got on Lindisfarne for a proper visit! That is an upcoming video ;-) Have I told you that I was born in Elgin! And grew up in Dundee? Both towns in Illinois, LOL! Northumberland is so lovely. You must go with David to visit Durham and also Northumbria! Thanks for watching our puffin adventure! XX
👍 Great video with super sharp images, one of your best yet. We bet that Ian was like a kid in a sweet shop after waiting 12 years to see puffins ! 😉 Lovely birds though, our favourite too. Just think if you went there and started eating fish & chips or ice cream amongst all those hungry birds, you'd need crash helmets instead of hats ! 😉 The quality of your video was first class, a joy to watch. 👍
Thanks so much, Captain! It was a glorious day, and I'm so glad you think the video turned out well! Ian was grinning ear to ear... it was a dream come true. And we are SO lucky we went when we did, because later in the summer the island was closed for landings due to bird flu, and it is again closed this summer too! Yes, it's no wonder they don't serve you fish & chips or ice cream cones on that island... can you imagine the gulls and terns?!?!

Great video - thanks for sharing - I am an East Central Florida picture taker looking for where to photo Puffins. The Farne Isles look like a great add!
@@billstruth1128 if I were you, I would consider three places. In addition to this one, look at Skomer Island in Wales and look at Staffa/Lunga off of Mull in Scotland. Those three options are in three different countries, so it really depends on time of year and where you will be traveling!
This is so great to see!!! In June we are going to visit Farne Islands for the guillemots and Puffins. With this boattrip, how much time are you allowed on the puffin-island?
i'm excited for you that you get to visit the Farne islands! I can't remember exactly, but I think it was about an hour on the "puffin island". It was plenty, though, so it worked out well. I hope the avian flu is all cleared up! That was an awful tragedy that happened after we did our trip 😢
Yes, it was a wonderful trip all around! Please stay tuned for the next several videos where I share all the other good stuff we did and places we went!💕 Cheers! Dara
Hiya Dara and Ian, what lovely birds they were, here in Whitehaven, we've got a RSPB bird sanctuary, its at St Bees head, but has no boats to go and see them, but that dosen't matter, its worse when its nesting season, my friend was trying to get to her house, she got attacked so she had to go to Accident and emergency to get her head stiched, that was off a mother and father seagull, so Dara and Ian please be careful during nesting season, this is Choppy in Whitehaven, Cumbria, England
Oh my word! I hope your friend wasn't injured very badly! Gulls can be vicious, as well as terns. Wild animals are very intent on protecting their young!
Absolutely love that place!! Seahouses and Beadnell are so cool. Such a calm trip you two We were so lucky on our first trip there. We were allowed on to the islands too. They then stopped them because of bird flu. So it’s great they’re back on again. We were attacked by terns and saw a gull take a Guillemot chick. One of our favourite wildlife trips anywhere. Great stuff Dara and Ian And amazing photos too - he’s a great photographer. 👍👍 They will be Arctic Terns and looks like Great Black Backed Gull 👍👍
Yes, we were so lucky also! They stopped boat landings later that summer, and now they are not landing again. That bird flu has been awful! 6000 dead birds last summer on the Farne Islands 😢 Now that Ian has finally had the opportunity to see puffins, Dara needs to go to the Isle of Mull for otter spotting! Lol Thanks so much for watching, Dave & Sue! Cheers! Dara & Ian
@@MagentaOtterTravels Yes, I was born in Cheltenham and went to school here. I spent quite a few years away and always wanted to return to lovely Gloucestershire.
Post from the RSPB just came up on my feed. They're selling puffin cushions, puffin mugs and lots of other puffin things. The puffin ornament looks really nice. Otter oven gloves too. 😁
Hi Dara Indeed, i believe you, two are very fortunate to have a perfect weather. Often I face high winds in spite of sunny weather. your boat ride is amazingly gentle and clam. OMGoodness, they are the top of those unique rock formation? Haha, Dara. You are right, they all talk to you at the same time. K7s and I love visiting lighthouses and touring inside if it is offered. They look like penguins. 6:43 I liked your puffin facts. Very peaceful. Yay I will plan kayaking here Thank you soo much for sharing the photos from the birdwatchers. Can you tell what is the best time to visit Farne Island? or else where? Thank YOU very much for making my day. Puffins gave me chuckles. Excuse my tardy BC I had to restart PC since it was a bit slow. See you next time. Ciao
Don't apologize for being late, I am just happy you were able to watch my video. I really love sharing these adorable little puffins and the other beautiful sea birds! Of course I thought of you and your hubby when I saw those kayakers in the water! I think June is the best time to visit the Farne islands. Iceland might be a better place to see puffins, but in the British Isles I think the best places to see them are the Farne islands in England and Skomer Island in Wales . Have a great weekend! Cheers! Dara
I would have said that the mystery bird was probably a great black-backed gull in summer plumage (I think the wing feathers are too dark for it to be a herring gull, and the less black-backed gull has yellow legs). If so, it's the largest of the gull family and noted for being aggressive.
Thanks for the ID! I'm glad that I was at quite a distance from them, since they are aggressive 😬... also, of course we weren't eating chips or ice cream! Lol
If you want to see puffins, come to Fife and go out to the Isle of May , the biggest colony of nesting puffins along the east coast. Lots of wildlife on the May and a fascinating history
That's a great black-backed gull. I can also tell you that Otters and Seals are not closely related ☺️ Otters are Mustelids - same family as Weasels, ferrets and Wolverines (although you might not think it!).
You are right, otters do look like weasels and ferrets. But I like to think of them as cousins to seals... even though they technically aren't ;-) Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment! Cheers! Dara
Hi - loved watching this video and have subscribed to watch some your others. Myself, my wife and daughter are visiting Northumberland the week after next with top of our list of thing to do being to visit the Farne Islands. Can we ask what time of day you visited? I assume you are restricted to waymarked paths and everything you filmed was visible from them and, finally did an hour feel long enough? Thank you so much and just about to watch another of your videos.
I'm so excited for you! Northumberland is beautiful, and the Farne Islands tour is a gem. We went on a morning tour and the timing was great. The island is small, so you just stick to the areas that are marked as OK to wander in, and you have plenty of time to see what you want. I have several videos of Northumberland, covering favourites towns we have visited and LOADS of castles. Be sure to check out the Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island videos, as well as my recent Craster vid ;-) Thanks so much for watching and bon voyage!!
Hiya. Well, ... what's Ian going to do NOW? Eagles in Scotland? Or is it your turn, Dara, to find and observe otters in the wild? The answer to the next question, I reckon, will be pretty obvious, but I'll ask it, anyway. No drones allowed on the island, I presume? Oh, and did you take sandwiches to taunt the seagulls with? Stay safe. All the best to you.
I think drone flying is a pretty bad idea given all those birds... and yes I'm sure it's prohibited. Next goal? Take Dara to the Isle of Mull for otter spotting!!! Probably not this summer though ☹️
@MagentaOtterTravels There's a new bus service from Chathill railway station to Seahouses so maybe I get to visit Bamburgh castle and puffins next year. 😁😁
@@MagentaOtterTravels A puffin population has been declared "stable" following fears that bird flu might have had a more devastating effect. The first full count for five years on the Farne Islands off Northumberland has revealed the endangered species has in fact increased by 15% since 2019.
Currently still on my bucketlist. The bird populations were decimated by avian flu last year and the islands are still closed to visitors, although you can sail around them.
I have been to Alnwick a couple times, and below is a link to the video from the last time. I didn't go to Barter books, but we will have to stop in on our next visit! Cheers! Dara th-cam.com/video/oYsqpBBcf3s/w-d-xo.html
@MagentaOtterTravels Great news! The Farne Islands are to reopen to the public from 25th of March (apart from Staple Island). 'Area ranger Sophia Jackson said: "It seems that the disease has declined in our birds, although we will continue to closely monitor them as the breeding season starts again."
A gull DID attack Ian in Cornwall and stole his sandwich! But thankfully we had a fun day when we took this seabird tour... no seasickness and no attacks!! I hear you moved to AZ! I hope things are going well, Brian. Thanks for watching!
Don't be too hard on the Gulls. Their natural food herring, sprats and sandeels, have been fished out. They have had to find other foods. The herring gull is a conservation concern and it's status is RED. They are in decline.
True, it's right around the corner! This Friday I'll share with you what I ate when I got off the boat. Spoiler: it was the worst thing I've eaten in my life!

Thanks for joining Anita! I'm glad you had a wonderful trip to Britain... and are now back in the Netherlands enjoying perfect weather and good friends!💕
Fantastic photos looked to of been a great day out.
Yes we were SO lucky! 🍀
Fantastic content. thank you for sharing. have a good day!❤👍
Great adventure, you both are lovely and this place looks beautiful! Also really appreciated the history... as archaeologist is one of my favorites part! Following your channel guys, like 128, well deserved 💙
If you are an archaeologist please watch my Belas Knap video!! Cheers! Dara
I am so pleased for lan finally managing to see puffins. Regarding Grace Darling, l remember learning about her in primary school. Those photographs are wonderful, and how kind of the gentleman to allow you to use them.
Clive is an amazing photographer and SO kind to share his photos!💕
I'm thrilled that Ian finally had his perfect puffin day! 🙌🙌
Thanks for coming along! XX
Thank you for all your hard work producing all the lovely content!
XX
You got such great footage there of all the seabirds and seals 😊 looks an amazing place to watch them all. Those photos are stunning!
Thanks so much Yasmin! I was thrilled to get some good video clips, and truly chuffed to have Clive share his gorgeous telephoto pics! Thanks for joining the premiere 💕
What a fabulous day out! I love puffins, they're such cute birds.
They are the cutest! Thanks for watching XX Dara
Like they say, 4th times a charm! Amazing puffin facts. Stay away seagulls!
I'm not sure that's what they say, but we were very lucky that things worked out on the fourth try! Thanks for coming along on our seabird adventure🩷🐧
aw seahouses many happy memories i have as a child going there eating fresh seafood on the beach and camping out as a family ,great video loved it.edited cos i forgot to say im pleased ian got finally to see the puffins and you both had a good day .
Hi Jill! I haven't heard from you in a while, so I just wanted to check and make sure you are alright?
@@MagentaOtterTravels Many thanks!
A beautiful video, Dara.
Thank you! It was a really wonderful day 💖
What a magical tour!
I love it. This is a fantastic video! 🤍 Jess
Thanks for watching! It's awesome when occasionally a plan comes together on a perfect day! 💕XX Dara
Absolutely love this, the puffins are amazing, bet Ian was thrilled. Fabulous photos too. ❤ Think the gull is the black-backed, larger than our usual Cornwall pasty eating ones 😂
We need to find some sand eels for those gulls to eat so they can stop pinching the tourists' pasties! 🤣
Thanks for watching, Clare! XX
@@MagentaOtterTravels they’re at their worst in St Ives but they are clever birdies, a taste for pasties and ice cream! Thanks for your videos 🥰

XX Dara
Gotta love a smooth boat ride!
Oh YES! Getting seasick would have definitely put a damper on my fun that day!
Hi Dara i had to come see this after you mentioned it . This was adorable and the footage was cute and stunning with great info. They really are beautiful birds and its so good Ian got to see them after so many attempts ! Loved this :) ~ Anna ❤👍
Thanks so much, Anna! We do hope to see them in Wales one day also... we will give Skomer another try 🩷
Very beautiful ❤👌👍👍👍👍
I think it’s fabulous that Puffins are being celebrated. I’ve spent years lying on the wet cliffs of North Yorkshire just to catch a glimpse. I’m a little saddened that dormouse are being recognised with a 1p coin. Coins of lower denomination disappear so often. Dormice are beautiful and deserve to be remembered as more than just a character in a Lewis Carroll novel.
They should've done the leaves on the one pence piece. Because to your point it is the most likely candidate for discontinuance..
What an amazing day trip. I am sure Ian was getting a good watch for his money! I am so happy you finally made it! 🥰
I don't know why all these comments were hidden from me! Sorry!
Yes Ian was SO happy to see all these beautiful creatures!
That is an upcoming video ;-)
Have I told you that I was born in Elgin! And grew up in Dundee? Both towns in Illinois, LOL!
Northumberland is so lovely. You must go with David to visit Durham and also Northumbria!
Thanks for watching our puffin adventure! XX
Durham is the ancient capital of Northumbria, so you have been. Were you haven't been is Northumberland, which is not the same.
4:48 some of those seals fit perfectly in their habitat like they were wearing camouflage! 😲
Yes that's true! Very colour coordinated 😉
Really beautiful video👍👍👍
Nice to see you my friend.
Love the Puffins, such funny chuffin birds 😂💞
Yes, they are!! BTW, next week I'm finally going to visit Glastonbury!

Thank you. There is also a site ‘off’ Edinburgh an island in the entrance to the Firth - if I have the names right!
@@billstruth1128 so fun! Please let me know where you end up going and how it goes!
Yes, I'm home and able to tune in 👍💖
Yay!

Such a calm trip you two
We were so lucky on our first trip there. We were allowed on to the islands too. They then stopped them because of bird flu. So it’s great they’re back on again.
We were attacked by terns and saw a gull take a Guillemot chick.
One of our favourite wildlife trips anywhere.
Great stuff Dara and Ian
And amazing photos too - he’s a great photographer. 👍👍
They will be Arctic Terns and looks like Great Black Backed Gull 👍👍
Yes, we were so lucky also! They stopped boat landings later that summer, and now they are not landing again. That bird flu has been awful! 6000 dead birds last summer on the Farne Islands 😢
Now that Ian has finally had the opportunity to see puffins, Dara needs to go to the Isle of Mull for otter spotting! Lol
Thanks so much for watching, Dave & Sue! Cheers! Dara & Ian
Yes, I was told about Grace Darling at school.
Were you living in Gloucestershire back then?
@@MagentaOtterTravels Yes, I was born in Cheltenham and went to school here. I spent quite a few years away and always wanted to return to lovely Gloucestershire.
Lovely

I am sorry I am not familiar with the history about the rescue plan.
Awwweeee, puffins are adorable. They look like penguins. 6:43 I liked your puffin facts.
Very peaceful. Yay I will plan kayaking here
Thank you soo much for sharing the photos from the birdwatchers.

In English English, a calm sea is described as being like 'a millpond'. We learned about Grace Darling, while in Primary School.
Mill pond! I will have to remember that one! My favourite Mill Pond is in Carew, Wales, by the castle 🏰❤️
ما شاء الله عرض موفق باذن الله بالتوفيق ❤🔔👍🔔👍
Yes we’re taught about Grace, and also about the invention of the unsinkable self righting lifeboat, still preserved in South Shields.
That does seem like a very brilliant invention indeed! 🚤
Sometimes you’ll get the dolphins swimming alongside the boat which is a nice bonus!
Oh yes that's fabulous! 🐬

I am still looking for Puffins. Every time I go to Alaska I try. I feel your pain.
They are tricky birds to track down! I think the only sure thing is to go to Iceland!
7:42 What a great idea to let others build your home for free....that's what I call a smart work attitude!!! 😎
Very efficient LOL!
I would have said that the mystery bird was probably a great black-backed gull in summer plumage (I think the wing feathers are too dark for it to be a herring gull, and the less black-backed gull has yellow legs). If so, it's the largest of the gull family and noted for being aggressive.
Definatly a greater black back.
Thanks for the ID! I'm glad that I was at quite a distance from them, since they are aggressive 😬... also, of course we weren't eating chips or ice cream! Lol
So cool
Is this an experience experience?
Yes!
@Magenta Otter Travels sorry I meant to say, is this an expensive experience?
😅
@@BullpenDaz haha thanks for clarifying... I was a bit confused.🤣 There are tours for about £25. Totally worth it!
OMG, some more gulls....luckily you hand not fish & chips with you 🤣
Nobody would have fish & chips of ice cream cones on this trip! So we were safe from theft 😁
If you want to see puffins, come to Fife and go out to the Isle of May , the biggest colony of nesting puffins along the east coast. Lots of wildlife on the May and a fascinating history
Nice! First time I saw puffins was off the west coast of Scotland on Lunga
Cheers! Dara
Great photos from the part time paparazzi 😂
I agree! He's brilliant!

Aye, I'm working on the assimilation process ;-)
@@MagentaOtterTravels thank you - just watched your Bamburgh Castle video and will watch some more tomorrow.
Hiya. Well, ... what's Ian going to do NOW? Eagles in Scotland? Or is it your turn, Dara, to find and observe otters in the wild? The answer to the next question, I reckon, will be pretty obvious, but I'll ask it, anyway. No drones allowed on the island, I presume? Oh, and did you take sandwiches to taunt the seagulls with? Stay safe. All the best to you.
I think drone flying is a pretty bad idea given all those birds... and yes I'm sure it's prohibited.
Next goal? Take Dara to the Isle of Mull for otter spotting!!! Probably not this summer though ☹️
@@MagentaOtterTravels - 👍
@MagentaOtterTravels There's a new bus service from Chathill railway station to Seahouses so maybe I get to visit Bamburgh castle and puffins next year. 😁😁
@@Poliss95 oh I certainly hope so!!!
@@MagentaOtterTravels A puffin population has been declared "stable" following fears that bird flu might have had a more devastating effect.
The first full count for five years on the Farne Islands off Northumberland has revealed the endangered species has in fact increased by 15% since 2019.
@@Poliss95 such good news!
Currently still on my bucketlist. The bird populations were decimated by avian flu last year and the islands are still closed to visitors, although you can sail around them.
The bird flu was devastating!!! I'm hoping that goes away completely soon and boat landings can resume. 🙏
It's a good job we don't yet have SmelloVision - that guano is something else!
Haha, I'm glad it was a wide open space and we weren't in a cave with all those birds ;-)
If you're still in Northumberland I strongly recommend popping into Alnwick (pronounced Anick) and visiting Barter Books.

Grace Darling is fairly well known, possibly just us old timers.
Among old timers and Northerners, yes. Some southerners seemed less familiar ;-)
Good video, I was thinking that you were going to say that a gull attacked you, like other animals...

Fair points. They don't deserve to become extinct. But I do wish they wouldn't eat puffins!
@@MagentaOtterTravels The Puffins are also suffering from the lack of sand eels, their staple food.
