In some situations yes, but not all. I think you'll find complex can drastically change the audio quality. However I think for increased pitching complex pro can sound much better and pretty sure is what Madeon uses for his acapellas.

Ed absolutely Inspiring.Madeons version made me buy a launchpad and try this myself, took me around 3mths to get a sort of "my version" with no knowledge of either launchpad or ableton but i did it with the samples another guy uploaded on youtube which was cool and worked ok.Your version is Superb but i struggled with the final synths at the end as there was no samples given on this.Your help would be apperciated on this.Well done and keep on keeping on.Neilo.
Just wanted to say thank you very much for this video, and also for not releasing the project files ha. The launchpad pro version is pretty subpar honestly, and making it myself really helped me improve my ear in getting everything exactly how I wanted. Anyway, one thing I noticed really helped mine to sound more authentic was detuning the the first one shot 5 cents or so, and the 3rd one up like 15. Really fleshes out the sound. Thanks again for the awesome tutorial!!

So I am working my way minute by minute through this tutorial. It's been going well so far, but there are a couple samples I'm having trouble with. The DVNO hits are hard to pick out and I am also having trouble with the 'Music sounds better...' and 'I gotta feeling' hit on the end of Momma's boy. Can't seem to tune it right. I don't want to bug you too much, but do you have any tips? Thanks! I know you can't spend all your time answering my questions but I'm going to keep trying!
Great job. I was wondering if you would be able to upload the project file. I am fairly new to the launchpad and it would be great getting used to it from your nearly perfect replica of madeon's version.
I tried it, it doesn't work sadly =[ I'm trying to crack how madeon pitches the vocals differently so that it doesn't sound so winey. It's as if he asked madonna to sing it in a different key. For anybody who wants to know it's in F minor. Or Ab major. It may help people to do the one shots
Thanks so much Ed! I really appreciate that you don't just give us the file because this tutorial gives me the opportunity to make it myself and since I have only Live Intro, I get to work with this tutorial and figure out how to replicate what you did in a downgraded version. The only extreme challenge for me is figuring out those Baba O'riley one shots on track 5, and if you could give any insight to what they are that would be great, but all in all I really appreciate your work and ideas and wish you the best going forward. Thanks!
Also, I believe I found where "Que Veux-tu" (Madeon Remix) slipped in there. In the original pop culture, at the beginning, there is a quick synth punch at the very beginning of the clip to "can I have a word". I noticed this in Madeon's video and thought there had to be another song in there so I remembered you said you couldn't find where Que Veux-tu was. I checked out the song again and found multiple synth splashes that sounded like it. Even if I'm not correct on this, the song sounds MUCH fuller at the beginning for me and it helped my shooting star drums, which felt a little empty.
Thank you so much dude, saw madeon last night and I'm determined to dust off my launchpad and give this a go. And I respect you for not giving out the project file!
Hey mate, my synth is a hardware synth. Not a software synth. You can use abletons operator / analog to get a similar result. Always good to use what you've already got :)
yes they are tricky man. I went through a bunch of tracks a beat at a time trying to find the right hits. Then layered them with other one shots till they sounded right. Eventually you'll find something that sounds right man. Good luck :)
Ed, thanks for the great tutorial! I was wondering if you could refer me to a video on TH-cam that can show me how to layer tracks in Ableton (e.g. your Kesha and Lady Gaga clip). I'm quite new to the software and could use some help! Cheers and add some more live jams soon.

Hey, don't know if you still read comments on this age old video anymore, but I was curious how and why you do the pre-triggering / follow actions on the build ups, like trigger two clips on the same track at once but one of them is flashing, waiting? Not sure what that is called or how I am supposed to use it, just wanted to learn more. thanks :)
Hey my man, this is actually one of the few hour long videos I gladly watched through. Thank you so much for all your tips! In regards to the samples, did you do all the editing of it in Ableton and put it in session view? And regarding the mixing and mastering so that the master doesn’t hit red, did you adjust the volumes when you edit the samples or did you alter the clip volumes for each sample? Again, thank you so much!
Hey man, thanks for the kind words. Yeah, all edited in Ableton Live. Mostly in Arrangement view. There are many layered samples which were bounced down to a single clip. As for mixing, I mostly just used Clip gain to level everything out. It was a bit of a juggling act but i think the end result was pretty good! Hope this helps! :)
