Ok, so if you're working in a bakery and decide to write something like that on a cake, wouldn't you immediately think about the fact that it's going to be picked up at the bakery counter and the person is almost certainly going to look at the cake when they receive it and be upset by it? Nothing about this adds up.
fake I worked at wholefoods bakery before . They have to show you the cake before they box it up, and like Ana said the cover was transparent. It's fake.

Look at the two videos again. In the pastor's video there is nothing on top of the cake box and the label covers the side and bottom of the box as a seal. Now look at the surveillance video. As the customer leaves with the cake, it clear that there is a white label on top of the box. The cashier appears to scan the top of the box with a hand scanner as this suggests the UPC label was on top of the box. Let's analyze the pastor's video again: the UPC label used to seal the box also has the price on it, but the price is at the bottom of the box. Does anyone find that suspicious that a bakery would put the price at the bottom? Also this was a custom order by all accounts. Why is it sealed to begin with? I've never owned a bakery but I would assume that you don't seal a custom order until after the customer inspects it. After all if there is a mistake with the message it can be corrected right away before the customer leaves.
Therealpaul Kaminsky that’s not what I’m saying. I myself am a strong ally. However I can’t tell if he’s telling the truth. You can see the video and you can see he looks at it. Idk
Therealpaul Kaminsky I know that might’ve happened but based on what Whole Foods was saying and there was video evidence that he might’ve written it after plus the handwriting didn’t really look the same but nevertheless if that did happen then that’s just so terrible for something like that to happen.

Having been to Austin, that is also a progressive town. There used to be a popular, homeless transgender man that ran for mayor a few times named Leslie. Whole Foods also noted that the person that decorated the cake was a LGBT member and high unlikely to write that smear on his cake.
He sued, they countersued and he dropped his lawsuit, but he never admitted he did it, but it is assumed because he dropped his lawsuit after the countersuit and they had camera evidence. I wonder if they proceeded he would have lied on the stand, he is a pastor after all. That would have been ironic.
I've worked in a bakery before and can tell you I've never once seen a person pick up a cake without looking at it. This is a scam. Possible this guy is working with one of the bakers.
I work at a bakery similar to Whole Foods and I can smell bullshit all over this. I work with those label tapes for price seals all the time and the adhesive used is extremely weak when exposed to extreme cold temperatures like a freezer. You can easily to take it off and put it back on without any visible trauma. Also I wouldn't be surprised if the cake order said "Love Wins FAC" or "FAO" and he changed that C/O into a G. Considering the relative neatness of the other letters, that G looks sloppy. Once again by freezing the cake, you can lift and manipulate parts of iced letters without showing visible trauma. It takes some practice but it can be done especially if the iced letters was done in rose icing.
Hm, in his video the label is on the side sealing the box. In the store surveillance video, you can clearly see the cashier scan a white label on top of the box that wasn't on his video... Sketchy.
All they have to do is check the cameras and the lawsuit is settled. Plus I once ordered groceries delivered to my home and only tipped 5 dollars and the label for my groceries said "Dirty". Don't put it past employees to do this. Also don't put it past scammers to hustle. Let the courts decided.
Look closely at the video in the store. The label is on the top of the box, wrapping over to the side. In his video, the label is on the side of the box, wrapping under to the bottom. He clearly tampered with the box, and yet claims that he never did. Caught in a blatant lie right there.
Why the F, would anyone make a notion about the fact that he didn't break open the box. Completely irrelevant, unless you wan't to make extra sure that people know you didn't open the box... Seems very fishy.
They are going after his lawyer too for filing a frivolous lawsuit. I hope they win their $100,000 defamation lawsuit against the pastor and bankrupt him.
In addition to all the other hinky details which make you doubt his story, the preposterous idea that an employee would write that on a cake and hand it to him, not to mention the unlikeliness that they would know he was gay, his being a pastor which is basically a scam artist, I want to also point out, looking at the nature of his story, it's pretty obvious that this scam was inspired by past news stories about cakes.
I understand everyone's skepticism, but what leads me to believe that he is not lying is the seal. If the cake is indeed sealed, then I find it unlikely that he is lying.
More news on this story broke about how the label and bar code of the cake is on top of the box in the video at the store. Also the icing of the word is clearly not as thick as the others. Total fraud, but not surprising coming from a pastor.
Fake pastor. No official Christian organization would allow a pastor being gay. You literally can't be a pastor and be gay it just doesn't work. you can read Bible if you don't believe me.
Condor DM they're not real Christians man. the Bible condemns being gay. And the priests that you're talking about are not coming out as being gay because as soon as they do they get kicked out of being a priest. Just look at what Pope Francis did when he met a gay priest.
To be honest, I was inclined to believe him if not for the fact that he is a pastor. The role of pastor always attracts a special kind of self righteous, scumbag scam artists.
As someone who works in a bakery at my local grocery store, when we hand a customer a customized cake, we are required to open the box and show them the cake to make sure it is what they wanted. I know that isn't the case everywhere, but I'd like to think that most bakery clerks would confirm the cake to make sure they are matching it with the right customer.
Whole Foods caught him on camera in the store and disproved him because in the surveillance footage, the UPC barcode and seal was on TOP of the box, not the bottom as he claimed in the video.
+Richard Kim Yep. Most bakeries almost never use the price tag as the seal on cake orders. (I work at a bakery similar to Whole Foods) The reason for this is so the cake decorators can easily re-open the box to fix problems quickly if any arise. Also the adhesive on those price tags are actually easy to take off without damage if you put them in the freezer for a few minutes.
I heard that this pastor pulled his car over when he saw the cake and called the corporate office and left a message. Then called the store itself and they apologized and asked him to take photos. If this had really occurred, why didn't he just turn around and go back to Whole Foods and explain the situation instead of waiting to get home and take photos. Just ridiculousness on the pastor's part.
I was just thinking, if this was real, what would a logical person do? But, yeah I agree with you. if you see the surveillance footage, the employee so obviously scanned the top of the box. Not the side where the label was on in the pastor's video.

"Love Wins". All the straight people celebrating are doing it begrudgingly on Facebook because they don't want to show that they really are homophobic.
Watching the video from Whole Foods you can see the sticker is on the TOP of the box, not on the bottom. You also see the cashier scan the top of the box. If the sticker was at the bottom edge as the customer claims the cashier would have spun the box in order to scan the barcode.
I have never picked up a cake that I didn't look at the special order decorations before I accept it and pay. I have always been shown the cakes for the "o.k." and correct spelling. Not buying it for a min. He's been a minister since age 14. Can you say "prayers for profit"?
The cashier scanned the box on the top and to the side. But when Austin showed footage of the cake box, the upc label ended up on the side of the box. This is a clear case of fraud.
The guy's lying. I used to work at an in-store bakery, decorating cakes. Let me tell you when customers pick their cakes up, they look at them to make sure the decoration and writing are what they ordered.
+laurie spencer I know - because a few years ago I realized that, as an adult, I didn't have to wait for my birthday to buy a birthday cake! I also realized that I could get them to write anything on the cake - they have to write what you ask, cuz it's like bakery law or something...so I get them to write things like, "Cake decorators are stupid." HILARIOUS. I'll stand their and watch them write it, and sneer at them as they scowl at me while handing over my cake. Then I go to my car and I eat the whole thing, washing it down with a jug of chocolate milk. True story.
I'm not buying his story. How could anyone miss that? Had that happened to me, the video inside the story would have been very different. Everyone, would have been clear on when I first noticed the insult and how I felt about it. Lol
Is he really gay? Any self respecting gay guy would make the cake himself! And not settle for a dreary plain sponge clearly not worthy of the expression of gay love. Putting gay stereotypes aside, he should just be grateful he got an extra bit of frosting for nothing. That's the only thing he's gonna get out of this case.
I haven't done it but I've seen comments elsewhere on this topic- take a larger photo into Photoshop (or GIMP) and take color samples of the writing. It's clearly a different color with far more yellow, easily confused by the eye but not by software. Personally, he lost me at seeing it in the car. Who wouldn't immediately walk back in and demand a manager? Who instead seeks a news conference? We got chicken that was clearly spoiled and, despite being disabled and in a lot of pain, I drove back across town to take it to Whole Food and called a manager up to SMELL IT. They immediately pulled all similar packages from the shelves and offered us a full refund plus a gift card. That's merely a spoiled product, not HATE SPEECH. I find it excruciatingly hard to believe he didn't see it, the cashier didn't see it, and any bigot would have written it on there with a huge clear lid on the box to begin with. It was the only purchase he had. How could he not even look at it? LGBTQ peoples, I am fully behind you. Please don't misunderstand this stance. I think this is a scam. I don't know why he would do it but I am having serious difficulty believing this happened for a plethora of reasons. I watched his video first, for the record. I didn't believe it then, either. He spoke like Data (no contractions while denying he opened it). So much is suspect here.
Who orders a cake and doesn't check to make sure it's done the right way?
+Devil's advocate I'm gay and I can confirm your claim. I hate when I get home and see McDonalds gave me half the fries I paid for.

how did Whole Foods even know he was gay?
+megha sharma
Because he was shopping at Whole Foods.
+KnuckleHunkybuck
LOL!
+KnuckleHunkybuck 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
"Love Wins". All the straight people celebrating are doing it begrudgingly on Facebook because they don't want to show that they really are homophobic.
+GotPotatoes24 someone's a mad cynic.
Being a pastor doesn't mean shit you can buy yourself a pastor certificate from a divinity "school" online for $20.
The cake was a lie...
The cashier scanned the box on the top and to the side. But when Austin showed footage of the cake box, the upc label ended up on the side of the box. This is a clear case of fraud.
This is a hoax..fraud. Who orders a custom cake with writing on it and doesn't IMMEDIATELY look at it when picking it up??
Why would you guys censor the thumbnail?
+First Name Last Name
Displaying a homophobic slur on a video thumbnail without appropriately establishing the context is sensationalism.
*_The Cake Is A Lie!!!!!_*
True story.
Yeah my bullshit detector is on high alert right about now.
look at the video and the "label" is on the top and the clerk scans the top - when he shows the cake in his home the label is on the bottom
I stopped the video after she said gay pastor
It is plausible him doing it for money. People here are sue happy.
Bro Whole Foods wtf
I'm not surprised he didn't read the cake before he paid for it, because he obviously didn't read the bible before he became a pastor.
I would have just eaten the cake..
Superior Scream o_o
Did not think of that...
How would the baker know that he was gay unless he's famous for being a gay pastor or it's a small town where everybody knows each other?
oh ok. didn't know that
I'm not buying his story. How could anyone miss that? Had that happened to me, the video inside the story would have been very different. Everyone, would have been clear on when I first noticed the insult and how I felt about it. Lol
People always look at a cake right away to see if they got what they ordered then maybe ask for some changes
Win or lose this case.. that guys got a really weak looking cake
Will b interesting to see how this plays out. And how Whole Foods states their case as well as him ... plse keep the viewers posted.
