What i don't like about voltorb flip is there are situations where it is literally 50/50 whether you'll get a voltorb or not. Shouldn't have to solely rely on luck in a supposed logic game.
It's not even meant to be a casino though. That's why they got rid of the slot machines, so there's no gambling. All i'm saying is for a supposed logic game, you should never have to rely on chance.

If you're using an emulator, which you probably are, just Save State after every coin flip, if you get a Voltorb, you're obviously going to load the last Save State, untill you clear the level, and then the entire game until you have the max of 50,000 points.
I see your point!! I just like the fact that the Dratini at the end has ExtremeSpeed which I believe can't be learned naturally so I personally think it's worthwhile.(correct me if I'm wrong though!)
Use the 3-2 trick. Whenever you see a row, where there are either 3 mines and 2 points. or 2 points and 3 mines, there is no possible way that row can have a multiplier in it above 1, and it's pointless to turn over any of those tiles, cause you can't any points out of them. Flag them all. This also applies to 4-1 ratio. Either 4 mines and 1 point or 1 mine and 4 points. If you look for the ratio that gives u 5, you can't get points. That's a nice secret for you.
The great thing is, if you get to a certain level, (say level 3) and you rack up a lot of coins, but then decide to quit, it will let you start on level 3 again. Thank you for this educational video! While I'm still a loooooooooong way from getting to level 6 or 7, or getting that Porygon, I'm bringing in more than I used to. At long last, I can at least get past level 1. :)
Hello sir! I chanced upon your video here, and was very pleased to see that we both came across the same method of playing Voltorb Flip! One thing I'd like to mention, however, is that after reducing the board to its givens (by flipping voltorbless rows and marking valueless spaces [dead spaces]), you can mark other spaces that aren't _necessarily_ worthless. For example, whenever I see a 4/2 row, I know that there are two voltorbs, one two and two ones. Using that gets rid of most luck. :)
The 5 is the key, There's 5 tiles. Those little square show you # of Voltorbs in that line, the number above tells you the points possible in that line. Make sure to check both vertical and horizontal lines. If the box equals 5 then mark it with the memo thing. Because it'll just be 1's and Voltorbs. Also make sure to do the math, 5 tiles, 2 voltorbs, and 9 points possible, means that 3 tiles are 3 pts. Since 2 spaces are taken by Voltorbs and 3X3 = 9.
For example, 4/1. That means out of the FIVE squares present there is ONE voltorb, the rest will be 1's. It is an intricate mathematical equation=there are 5 squares, consider how many bombs are present and subtract that from the number of squaresused to total the main number in each row and column.In this case there is only one bomb so... we deduct one square and we're left with four squares left that will equal FOUR (4/1)must equal FOUR in total. We know that there's at most one voltorb.
What I like to do is add up all the numbers in a row or column, subtract that number from the total value that is supposed to be in that particular row/column and then add the number of voltorbs in the column. Then compare that number to the number of tiles you have. If they are equal to each other, then all you have left in those tiles is dead space. Just an easy way to remember his dead space method. :)

Use this formula to check if the line is dead space or not, trust me it is easy; If remaining un-turned tiles - voltorbs = total points in line - revealed total points in line then the line is 100% dead space; If there is a 2 in a 5 point 1 voltorb line, mark everything else dead space; If there is a 3 in a 6 point 1 voltorb line, mark everything else dead space; All lines that have sum of points + voltorb as 5 are all dead space Hope this helps ^-^
Count unflipped spaces as 1 so say in a column you have 8 points and a voltorb That makes 9 so say you have revealed a 1,2 and 2 you can confirm there is a 3 hidden and a voltorb now say one of the rows that lines up with the unflipped columns adds up to 6 instantly you know that's a voltorb because 3+1+1+1 +voltorb (1) = 7 ------ Also the game relies heavily on probability and skill but using the method in the video + my own you can reduce the number of unknown squares from 25 to around 6-12
What I do is tread cautiously in rows or columns that could have Voltorb. Then, when I find 1 square left, and all the rest were points, I mark it so I don't touch it again.
Another thing with dead spacing: If (Total points in row+total voltorbs) - points already in row = amount of unflipped spaces in row --> dead space whole row For example: Total points=4 Total voltorbs=2 Points already in row=1 tile of 2 points 4+2-2=4 1 tile is already flipped so 4 unflipped tiles 4=4 Deadspace

this method did help me out at first but it wasn't the final trick to break the puzzle. dead space does help but using row and column totals (along with currently flipped spacess and values known) its easier to eliminate the voltorbs and 1 point value spaces at the same time. luck is still needed to pick the final open squares to find the 2 or 3s. the dead space theory did help me out to finally to eliminate the 1s along along with voltorbs
I hope people don't hate me for this but I really don't care for playing Voltorb flip fair and square all I really want is Pokemon and all I really want is Pokemon in TMs why do we even have to work this hard for it, honestly I'd rather just cheat because it just kind of wastes grinding time to me, not saying that anybody's is methods are bad, I admire people for doing it fair and square but all I really care about is just getting the TMs and Pokémon as fast as I can and just get on with the game plus I sort no matter what anybody says I still don't get how to play I mean I usually hit the Voltorb the first time on level 1 every single time

For the 'dead space' an easy way of finding a 'dead space' row or column is by looking at the number of points and voltorbs, if you add up those 2 numbers and get 5, then it's a 'dead space' row or column, though really it's only 2,3 and 4,1. ex. 4 points 1 voltorb = dead space 3 points 2 voltorbs = dead space 1 point 4 volotorbs = dead space and 2 points 3 voltorbs = dead space.
I figured this out on my first try, I was hoping to find some kind of exploitable glitch. Still, thank you for the effort. I've taken it a step further and marked the spaces that I know do not contain threes. It hurts my brain to keep all of the information at once, but it's possible to analyze where stuff is by running mental simulations about how the voltorbs and multipliers must be allocated if we assume certain places are dangerous. It'd be more fun if I wasn't used to just buying the prizes
It's likely I'm in the minority when I say despite the luck factor involved in Voltorb Flip I still prefer it over the slot machines. I find more enjoyment in this than mashing for coins.
I love voltorb flip too, but then again I love me strategy games where luck can utterly screw over every bit of effort you put into planning (such as risk)
Your whole complicated "dead space method" is the idea I've been using to win, but mines a lot simplier. The rows & colums that have a voltorb count and point count that adds up to five, you dont need to flip. (lot simplier that way....)
Chris Mansley so the voltorb and points on the side.. if those both add to 5.. that's a dead line. (I.e.. 3 voltorb.. 2 point.. = 5) fill that line like he does in the video. Once that's done. don't touch the spots you filled. Next.. when he guesses.. look for high numbers side and bottom.. if u have an 8 on the side and 7 on the bottom.. that's a very good chance of not being a voltorb. Next up. by this point you should either have high numbers on the board and most of it filled out.. say you have a line thats 7 points 2 voltorbs.. and you have a 3 and a 3 showing on that line already. You can then fill out the rest like he does.. because 3+3+1+bomb+bomb.. will fill that line.. follow me? hard to explain with showing it
In the end (in the higher levels) you still need to be lucky, because if you reduced the game to 4 tiles, two solutions could be possible. Get lucky to pick the right tile, then you are done.
Ultimately it's very unlikely that you'll be completely avoiding any luck using this in voltorb flip (except for maybe the first 2 levels) but 1 in 4 (although better considered a 1 in 2 since one result is dependent on another) is far better odds than 1 in 10 (I get it's not really likely you'll have a 1 in 10 chance ever in voltorb flip but you get the point)
I spend like 2 hours playing this yesterday for the first time and was pleasantly surprised at how fun this is. I also came up with that "dead space" method as a way to clear rows that had no relevance. However, unless there's something I'm not seeing, a lot of the time you're just left with a couple of spaces where you have to guess which ones are multipliers (50/50 chance to survive). I hate this chance element. :(
I have the 1-1 theory, since 1 is an 1/5 chance of having a voltorb, I take the chances and clear the board pretty quick. it has a high success rate early but later it seems to be more inaccurate
I love how its not like certain older generation games where the game corner doesn't cost anything, there is some logic to it, and it's not required to complete the game. ...But I didn't complain much in Pokemon Blue when I could just clone 128 Nuggets and sell them to get enough money for game coins.

There is a solver onine and there is no chance involved if you calculate everything, correctly.

In the end (in the higher levels) you still need to be lucky, because if you reduced the game to 4 tiles, two solutions could be possible. Get lucky to pick the right tile, then you are done.
Ultimately it's very unlikely that you'll be completely avoiding any luck using this in voltorb flip (except for maybe the first 2 levels) but 1 in 4 (although better considered a 1 in 2 since one result is dependent on another) is far better odds than 1 in 10 (I get it's not really likely you'll have a 1 in 10 chance ever in voltorb flip but you get the point)

I spend like 2 hours playing this yesterday for the first time and was pleasantly surprised at how fun this is. I also came up with that "dead space" method as a way to clear rows that had no relevance. However, unless there's something I'm not seeing, a lot of the time you're just left with a couple of spaces where you have to guess which ones are multipliers (50/50 chance to survive). I hate this chance element. :(

:D you even used the same "dead space marker" as i did. Also in the later levels it can help alot to mark of areas where voltorbs definetly are.

i always use dead space and highest round is 6 because of u thanks a gane liked to
the rematch system allows you to call certain trainers for a rematch plus the gym leaders, at certain times of a day
I have the 1-1 theory, since 1 is an 1/5 chance of having a voltorb, I take the chances and clear the board pretty quick. it has a high success rate early but later it seems to be more inaccurate

I've been playing this for hours trying to get this dratini lol it will make it that much sweeter tho
I love how its not like certain older generation games where the game corner doesn't cost anything, there is some logic to it, and it's not required to complete the game.
...But I didn't complain much in Pokemon Blue when I could just clone 128 Nuggets and sell them to get enough money for game coins.

lol i do the same thing! cept i call them the "don't bother rows" :) and a shortcut to the "dead space" rows that i figured is that if it adds to five (the voltorb#+total number) u don't bother with tht row, mark them and what have you
