  • How to change a Mercedes w202 cabin air filter..What should be a 2 minute routine maintenance item can become a mess...your Mercedes cabin air filter should be changed regularly to extend the life of your fan blower motor,and maintain proper airflow into the cabin..after around 80-90k km this cabin air filter is seriously blocked up and causing strain on the fan blower motor..Mercedes w202 c230 shown,but other Mercedes are similar and equally important to change/check regularly follow me on twitter / fupabox

    If the air flow in your car isn't good or it won't heat properly, get this done. It is so much more comfortable.

    Oh my thank you for this! I was worried I had to spend hundreds of dollars in labor just to see whats wrong when all along it was a clogged filter. Now the A/C runs great! Also thanks for the error code video for the Climate Control. So much help. Been doing auto work for many many years but Mercedes is foreign territory to me lol

    Just did this myself, thanks for the tutorial!
    I found the filter itself quite hard to remove/install due to the fact there was basically no room for the filter to come out, had to bend it to get it out. If anyone is about to do it themselves makes sure to reaallyy fit the filter cover on well or the clips wont slide on.

    thanks alot for your help also helped me figure out where the blower motor is, as i had a issue with my passenger side leaking water realized the drain below the windshield was clogged causing overflow my car was parked in the open for a few weeks while i was away and came back to a huge puddle and lost the blower motor and the air bag sensor under the seat. a little costly but be careful always clean out the vent and the drain where the rain water passes from the windshield.

    Hello fupabox, I really like your videos. I have a C220 1994 with approx. 110 000 miles and I followed your tricks to clean the cabin filter stuff and wow, it really made a huge difference. Even though my car does not have AC it blows so much harder. I lubricate the fan with tiny bits of lithium grease in the bearings and it got dead silent. Now I just need to upgrade the stereo a bit and fix the sunroof that gets stuck halfways. Thank you very much for bringing this videos. They give hope and inspiration. =) Have a nice day. Yup, I have a W210 E200 with the M111 engine and I've learned something new today. I didn't even know this filter exists! God knows what its condition is. Hopefully it has been replaced... should have because I had a new compressor installed with a few other things a couple of months ago. Am going to check the repair bill to see if there's any mention of a filter. I'm going to provide this link at the local (Malaysia) Mercedes owners' group. Might be something new to many of them too.

    yes! it does help! thank you so much man!. I just had some problems : water flowding by the little black box under the glove box! Just don't know why it still works. You should have seen this mess!
    So I was asking to myself where is this fucking cabin air filter? was it touched by the water? and this is the answer. It will save some money! So folks in return this some help from me : if you have the same problem than me : it's because the windshield water evacuation was stuffy and mercedes cleaned this evacuation.

    Wow. Thanks for this! I'm having alot of problems with the heater fan itself. I've taken it apart a few times already and it seems to be fine when I hold it and test it but when I put it back in, the same annoying shit continues. So is the fan motors bearing at the bottom end of the motor? The tip that kinda looks like a nipple.. a rusty one :D I'll try changing the filter too when I get down there again. I would leave my w202 for you to repair rather than to merc service. So thanks for this!

    Maybe its louder, because you were parked. Making the blower motor act harder to keep the consistency of air coolness and air flow. And when you drive you assist in this process making it easier for the blowers to do their job. And you might have not noticed this until you did the video, and in real time! But I could be wrong too! Viel Spaß beim Fahren!

    Hey, thanks for the helpful videos!
    Really enjoy the helpful tips.
    I cleaned out the cabin air filter the other day on my w202, 1997 c230 by following your video. The next day when I drove it through the car wash all the water and soup starred pouring out from under the passenger side, were the cabin air filter is. I Immediately unscrewed the bottom panel, removed the filter and water just poured out. Over night the water froze. After I put the cabin air filter back in the heater didn't start working until about 30min after being driven. Car and heater has continued to work fine.
    Any advice on how or what could of caused this?
    I haven't got it washed since or have had any rain. Lots of snow here in New England but haven't noticed any leaks.
    Hope to here back!

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      with the extreme cold we are having here (and you in new England) the drain tubes are frozen and blocked ..unless you can park overnight somewhere indoors above freezing to thaw the drain tubes.. check my video on cleaning the drain tubes on the w202 and you will see where they get backed up th-cam.com/video/ALGD22u_eaQ/w-d-xo.html
      I made the mistake of going through a car wash last week when it was -20 (hoped the heated water and dryer would unclog everything.. nope.. my fan squeeled for a few minutes on start up for the next few days.. same as you.. frozen drain tubes.. You want to get the crap off the car so you can see out the windows , but when it is this cold it is best to use a squeegee at the gas station and just clean the windows and lights..

    You are the best!!! I swapped my throttle body and throttle sensor and I am good to go.It has inspired me to do more work myself. My A/C and Heater makes a high pitch noise to the point i can't even use it. The A/C also does not get cold. It is safe to assume I need a new compressor?

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      if the a/c doesn't get cold the first thing to check is the refrigerant level..the whining is likely the lower bearing of the motor just needing a drop of oil...the cabin filter and junk in it can make the fan whine... also check this video for the climate control self diagnostic

    Hi fubabox, I have a W202 that is not getting any air (fan, aircon nor heater) - I have the old controller (not digital), I went to an aircon repair shop and they said it might be the entire controller itself, do you have any suggestions as to what it may be and how I could possibly fix it ? Any ideas would be helpful, thank you.

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it is usually the blower or resistor...or the wiring to the motor gets corroded from water getting into the cabin filter...here's a video on how to remove the blower...once it is out you can check the motor to see if it is good,and check the wiring for corrosion

The AC either blows hot or cold. Meaning 92 deg F will blow cold air. Having it on "HI" will blow hot air. Could you please let me know what you think is the issue? Thanks!

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A couple cheap easy things to check .. First , if your heat is always working fine disregard checking the Duo valve . If the heat is also sporadic . The duovalve cleaning will likely be the issue th-cam.com/video/8jhPEfLI45s/w-d-xo.html
      If that's not the culprit .. try an HVAC reset . (may or may not work , but free and harmless to try ) turn key to second click when all dash warning lights come on , but don't start . press and hold simultaneously the recirc and front defrost buttons ...hold until the both flash on and off .. wait 2 minutes , turn key off , wait 1 minute ..restart car and see if a/c is working properly . check for lint and dust in the cabin temp sensor .. little fan grille on overhead console .. with car running the little vent should be able to suck a small piece of kleenex towards it .. they get clogged over the years and the temp reading is wonky ..The HVAC then is confused as to what the temp is .

    Hey I'm in a 2000 Mercedes C230 Kompressor w202 but my air conditioning knob cluster looks different. It isn't digital. I was wondering if there is an actual A/C button in my car? I can't find one and I'm thinking when I have the dial all the way cold and it still won't blow cold. Maybe I just need a freon charge?

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The A/C on off switch is the EC button... EC stands for economy mode, A/C compressor shuts off. If the EC button is lit up the A/C compressor will not work.. with the EC button off , if the air still won't cool, then freon/refrigerant is the most likely cause

    • @TrippyRicky
      @TrippyRicky 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jeremy Francis Hi Jeremy ..the best deal is to order from rockauto on line.. the shipping is reasonable but over rides the savings unless you buy more stuff at the same time.. I buy from them for my cars and friends cars all at once (oi filters , air filters, spark plugs etc.) so we end up paying around 70% less than in Canada. Example..a spark plug here that is $7 I can get for $2 at rockauto.. oil filters for $8 air filters for under $10..the air filter is over $40 here. Just make sure all items you order come from the same warehouse to reduce shipping by a ton of $ .

    • @fupabox

      Mech Mat The fan gets negative power from the regulator..positive power is constant.. 3 wires go into the regulator.. I'm assuming 1 of those is a "rest" function signal wire, and can turn the fan on with the engine off..if the "rest" button is pushed ..the fan will come on with no key in the ignition , and no engine running

      +fupabox so changing resistor will fix my problem ? it only does one speed no matter how low or high i put it. my defrosting works heat works and ac does to.

      @fupabox  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mauricio Penaloza it should.. the only other problem could be in the climate control panel itself, but that is very rare..The resistor is a common failure. As long as the fan blows on its own when the car is sitting still, the fan should be good

    No mention of it in the bill:-( But that doesn't automatically mean the guy didn't replace or at least clean the filter and its compartment. I often go there to repair the car, including having a top overhaul late last year, and I know they are thorough. But I'm going to open it up myself and see. Or go back to the shop and ask them whether they remember.

    Have another problem with my 98 C280. I do not get air in my foot well at all. What could the problem be and where should i look? I get air every where in my car but the driver and passenger foot well. Thanks As always

      when in the auto setting and when it is very cold outside the air is automatically diverted to the windscreen and side outlets..only when the car has warmed up sufficiently will the footwell air begin to flow any more than a trickle...if you do very short distances when the outside temp. is below 0 it can be a bit of a pain...does it stay the same when on longer drives ?

      ***** Yeah under auto my footwell is completely dead. When i manually select my car to go footwell it gives very little to no air at all. All the air rushed through the side. When i close the sides then very little air comes through the footwell but most of it is directed to the front windshield.

      let the car idle for 30 minutes with the auto setting on high..it should direct to the footwells once the car thinks it's warm enough....if not there may be a vacuum door problem ..it's a safety thing incase the vacuum system fails the defrost is the default..it also won't go to footwells until the car is warm

      thanks, but isn't there a separate filter behind the single screw on the left? It seems there was a smaller filter. maybe I'm thinking of another video.

    You put the new filter there the wrong way, didn't you?

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      nope.. it won't go in any other way ..the cut out (odd shaped) side needs to go towards the front of the car or the long black inner leg on the filter cover won't go in.. it fits into the cut away part of the filter
