DEAR JQ, I am not a racer, not even a hardcore basher, but I am an R/C enthusiast at my 40s now, and I can say for sure that you are a true blessing for this hobby/sport. I respect you, I hear you, and the latest video/room settings are top of the notch. Please continue to educate us, to make fun of everything cause we need it badly and to keep us company throughout the year. You are the ONE and ONLY thing that makes sense and noise in all R/C. Keep going!!!
Tip #5. I was leading a local on road race by a large margin so i "slowed down." My lap time increased by several tenths and I maintained that pace as I continued to drive in a smooth manner. Being relaxed and driving calmly made me faster. I stopped pushing and the car responded.
Well said JQ. I run On Road here in the USA and this is the mentality that I have applied to my race program. I run against National Champions and get beat by them all the time. But I understand why I’m not winning. I focus on getting better and learning from each race. As far as I’m concerned, when racing with the pros. I never loose, I learn...
I totally agree with the point you made about setting the car up for yourself and how you like the car to feel, but there's a lot of people at clubs I race at that insist on copying top driver setups and surprise surprise they never work for me and I am always slower copying other people's setup. Thank You for making this point, out loud.
Got told something early on when I started. A guy said 'there's only 10 tenths in a second'. At first I didn't grasp what he said but the more big events I went to I realised how much it made sense. Not only for how easy it is to lose time but to gain it as well. The same guy helped me at a local meet one time, he made me run a full tank at 100% endpoints, then another at 90%, and so on. We charted the average lap time and overall efficiency and to my disbelief I was faster at 70% throttle than at flat out 😂 handy little tip
Very good videos your tuning video help me out with the different nitro fuel I always believe nitro fuel is all the same no wonder when I change fuel I have to retune
I have never been accused of being delusional about my racing, I have plenty to work on an know it. I learned a long time ago that throwing money at the car doesnt fix your driving, which makes beating guys with top of the line everything and seemingly unlimited burgers that much hetter
The first tip is literally what my buddy used to tell me all the time when I would be slacking on wrenching during the week with my car. Your excuse examples were hilarious
I've been racing since 1989! It's not the winning why we race it's the thrill of it. It's helping the new guys and getting the right setup. Trying new things, new brands, new friends. Peace to all friends!
I am 39 and love RC and specially the 1:8 TT buggies (was competing locally since i was a kid, 11 years old, but with interruptions). have been watching the videos, it is the first time i am commenting... very interesting and sophisticated videos, and your attitude is great. exploring the limits both inside and outside the track will sometimes result in this kind of incidents, but hey, it is the same atitude that brings greatness. and you already achieved it, by my standard. keep up the good work. greetings form Portugal
Also, most people I race with that dont get better? It very obvious why? They dont try to understand why something works or why something doesn't. I watch them watch me doing better and getting better, but... I put in the work and thought and energy on how to drive better. For me it is mostly an issue of trying to overdrive but recently I have got that under control more. People that are really trying to get better... will get better! Great info man
Ya know, I’m man enough to confess that up until this point I was not your biggest fan; perhaps I fell into the trap of popular opinion etc, but be that as it may I went there. This video and your advice here connected with me, and is so true, I’ve improved and got faster ever since I joined SWorkz and had to somewhat think for myself with my car and the setup (10th scale and in the UK). You offer this advice free over TH-cam, as do many other drivers on the world stage, but this was honest, concise, and to the point. Thanks JQ, and good luck with the Horizon business, they obviously can’t take a bit of industry banter.
Was into 1/10 and 1/8 buggy at OCRC years ago...recently have gotten into 1/8 scale off-road nitro and all your info is helpin a ton! Super interesting-keep em comin! PapaBear(Marcus Nelson)
The first rule had me in tears laughing when you listed what not to blame. Also i agree with the video through and through. Im building up a resume of wins to try to get a sponsor of sorts
Your vids are killer and everything you been saying is spot on and obviously touching some nerves along the way lmfao😂 Give em he'll JQ!! it's not like they don't deserve it and man is it great to see they have their panties in a knot. You got my support all the way and now I want me one of your buggies just to support the cause 👊
Great info! A see a lot of fast drivers, and ask for a friendly race. My truggy/buggy is always 4s, most run 6s as they want to be faster. I pass most if not all, due to your videos statements.
Well wow, getting back into RC racing after 20 years. After the end of that vid, I’m glad I chose a B6.2D and not a TLR (didn’t know Horizon bought it from Losi at some point (or am I wrong about that? It’s been a long time)).
Very good advice and reasoning, I have the same thoughts as you. We have a passion we are just passionate rc because and never an rc professional will win millions like in F1 or other sport. Thank you for your help with your videos and for sharing your passion rc friend.MEE I PLAY FOR PLAISURE FIRST and SECOND TIME IS PERFORMANCE and i know where is my limit to DRIVE with another PILOTstronger than me.
greetings from malaysia....brother ...what u said is totally true..especially the 5th point...i found that practicing and drawing beautiful raceline pn the track..seems slower and less grunt...but the cars actually drives faster and alot smoother...anyway,,i cant get TheCar conversion kit here..and go ahead with converting TheCar that i got as used GP unit to EP kit with front positioned motor opposite the servo........still....the kit drives ..handle beautifully as well as flying through the jumps......i really love TheCar...more than any other 1/8 ive ever owned amd modded..........TQ
Hi JQ, first of all thank you for all the effort you put into our hobby. I can't wait for your book to arrive. In this video you mentioned the most important thing, which unfortunately I realized way too late: "Don't blame the car!". Now I know my buggy is doing well, so I've been looking for tips on how to improve the driving style and I finally found it in this video (at least in a short preview). I'm looking forward to the upcoming videos comparing the cars. Or can I just not see the link you mentioned at 18:15?
I’m 48 and raced 1/10 2wd buggy’s for like forever Just buying a 1/8th go into nitro as a track on Oxford, uk is opening Mate just come across your channel and this is the first video Hit the subscribe soon as you got about my America friends 😂 (sorry to USA views) couldn’t stop giggling 😂 Brilliant!! Gonna watch your vids and take the advice
Fast quick tip make sure your rims on your RC or not over tighten where the ball bearings can't spin freely you'll be shocked just how fast a ball bearing can help tire speed from the horsepower to the ground make sure motor is good and tuned air filter is well oiled and follow track rules
Horizon is ridiculous acting like this. No sense of humour. They should watch your video about balls and savoya, it makes me laugh a lot. And I bought your book immediately, even before it was officially launched. I now seriously asking myself why I don’t run JQ, oh yea, because no balls.. okay keep on doing your videos love them.
Hello from Australia. Great video. Love it . "Caused irreparable damage" to the largest RC company in the US. LMFAO . At that point I hit SUBSCRIBE. Keep it up, so you have a pos cast? The way you do your videos are very conducive to podcast. love it. Thank will try your speed tips just moved from bashing to racing.
To save a lot of money people need to look outside the world of RC. Like screws one bag with 10 screws of an RC brand will cost the same as a box of 100 screws from the hardware shop. Greases, afterrun oils, filter oil etc are sometimes even cheaper if you buy 500ml cans at the car part shop than in a 50 or 100ml bottle from a RC brand. Titanium screws... do you really need them if you are no top driver? The same can be asked for Ceramic bearings, do you need them to become on podium? Steel bearings can be found for very low prices in an Asian shop, even then when throwing away instead of cleaning can be cheaper. My biggest saving are engines. Toplevel onroad engines are 400 to more than 500 euro. I buy 200 euro engines of the same brands and modify them to the specs of high end engines. It saves 200 to 300 euro an engine!
@jqracingTV i was about to post a comment on the Podcast show about asking a question lol, but I have found this video again. Everything you've covered is correct. is there a rule of thumb you follow for making setup changes at a race event. I run Touring car 1/10 xray x4 23
Horizon needs to worry about the 8x being tremendously average before they worry about TH-cam videos talking about them the 4.0 was great but every car I have driven has out driven the 8x I had its just not a great car instead of coming up with something to improve the car they are writing letters to jq -_- sad sad but hurt TLR.
I'm liking your videos but your jq team have a certain reputation and I like my serpent buggy. I love how you said "how do people say this car just isn't for me" hahahaha
