Nothing got smashed up on landing so I'd call that a pretty good maiden flight! Thanks for sharing mate. You should make more making-of stuff - I'd watch!

Ivan on the Drink with his video skills? lol well done Rob. Great to see it finally in the air. Hat off to you on the quality of the workmanship that went into the build.

Congratulations on a job well done! The spitfire is one of the most beautiful and iconic war birds to model. You spitfire being no exception - it is very amazing to see such hard work finally paying off and seeing her in the air with all those elegant lines, curves and details that make the spitfire so unique.
I am considering doing a Mick Reeves build myself sometime in the future. I have a Kolm IL 155-v4 which would be perfect for this!
How would you describe the build so far? I understand from RCSCALEBUILDER, and other forums, many people note some difficulties with inaccuracies and inconstancies with the laser cut parts and the plans themselves. One major issue being the glass fuselage not being properly aligned coming out from the molds, causing issues. Did you find yourself running into similar problems? Were there any other major hurdles that you ran into during the build?
These types of builds take time, for sure, and it takes one hell of a commitment. Any feedback, advice and suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks! glad you appreciated it.Yes you need to be determined and keep at it if you want to see it through.
This is Micks 2011 kit which is a revised version and apart from a slight banana fuselage(straightened with a heat gun and gentle pressure), i didn't have many problems with it.
I did make plenty of mods, mainly things i would do my own way on any model.
The only other thing to watch out for is build the tail as light as you can! the kolm is 8kg and it just about balanced correctly without ballast and that was me keeping the tail light. You should be fine with the 155 :-).
With all the discrepancies i read about an lots of research, i narrowed it down to Micks Spit, simply for the reason that it's the most accurate shape on the market. It's not a Spit if it's not the same shape as a Spit you know.
Hope this helps and keep me posted on what you go for and if i can help i will.
      Good luck!

Thank you very much Rob! You are absolutely correct, a spitfire is not a spit unless it has the proper shape. Some models and kits come close, but not to the scale of a Mick Reeves!!
I have build quite a number of kits, but never dealt with the complexity of a 1/4th scale. It seems with most warbirds, building the tail light as possible can be frustrating and a challenge, but it is a great and satisfying feeling when everything comes together.
Currently, I am still debating on pursuing such a build, however, it is not without question that such a build will be well worth it in the end - I will have to certainly make plans should I consider such a task.
With your experience on the kit itself, all the time and effort as well as resources you put into it, would you advise to go with the glass fuselage? I understand many people choose to go that option for convenience, but if you were given the chance, would you still go for the glass fuselage again or try the balsa built?
I ask because I generally work with balsa and light ply, it's more time consuming but even with a little bit added weight, I think the Kolm engine should balance it out nicely.
Should I decide to go with the Mick Reeves kit, I will definitely be in touch! Thanks again Rob, truly, much appreciated!!
Post more videos of this beautiful bird when it is fully finished - it is a real treasure!

Rob, I've a job to do on a cheapo acoustic guitar and I need some oversized bridge pins. Can you suggest a good supplier in the UK? (I can get tgem from StewMac but the postage is more than the pins cost!) Love to all the Crawfords.

Sorry Mark, only reading this now. Did you get the pins? called by a few times but you and the good lady haven't been about.
