    I just received my book from your second printing. I was very impressed by the packaging. I was more impressed with the book. Absolutely love it. I love the minimalistic aspect of the book, you let the photos speak for themselves. i could not stop laughing after seeing the two trumpeter swans. Very humorous cropping! Thanks for your work. Looking forward to “Two”. I have been making a book each year for the past three years for my own enjoyment. It’s worth the 60-100 dollars to see my favorite photos and progression as a photographer. Thanks again, Adrian.

    Thank you so much for making this very helpful video. It got me thinking about so many things that I didn't consider. I published a photography book decades ago and admittedly lost a substantial amount of money. In truth, it almost bankrupt me as I assumed great risks to have the book printed. This day and age however with so many more printing options I feel more comfortable in moving forward with another book. This time however, I will print the book for me. The last time my ego was too much involved and I expected way too much. I thought the books were going to fly off the shelf, but they didn't. Moving forward I will do a small run, 50 to 100 books and sell them to clients and at local community markets. This time I just want to have fun and really enjoy seeing my photographs in print. It is so very satisfying. Again, many thanks. And by the way, you do lovely work!!! Blessings....

    Just received my copy of your book today in the mail. It's a beautiful book! Thank you so much for making this available to your followers. I devoured it in one sitting but plan on revisiting it often in the near future and plan to slow down as I go through it again. also thanks for making the index available. There are places I recognize that I want to verify, since I live near several of the locations where your photographed the images. I live just north of Portland Oregon in Ridgefield Washington.
    Thanks again!

    I’ve been considering creating a photo book and your video has covered a lot of my questions and concerns. I am more enthusiastic about getting my own book published now and looking into all the possibilities. Great video!

    I can see how shipping costs can be a nightmare. I passed up on a couple of books from various photographers for this very reason. I wish there was a company that would do printing and shipping from two separate locations, maybe one in the US and the other in EU...

      They totally are. And on top of that, customs and packages that get lost or disappear for weeks.

    ¡Muchas gracias! Great tips, insights, and caveats. Quite the daunting process (especially the logistics)! Curating has always been the hardest part of photography for me, and I know that my favorite images aren't necessarily the most popular ones, but I'd rather stick with my artistic vision than go with what I think will sell. The problem is, galleries and publishers (understandably) want to focus on sales, which makes it a challenge to select images that accomplish both goals, but ultimately as you say "it's my book (or show)!"

    Otra cosa que me pareció maravillosa de tu libro es que no le pusieras títulos a las fotos. Durante la pandemia compré varios libros de paisajes (el tuyo es mi favorito junto al de Rachel Talibart) y lo peor fue que los fotógrafos la arruinan cuando se hacen los poéticos y le ponen títulos lamentables a fotos excelentes. Y esto no solo porque lo que tenían que decir ya estaba en la imagen (si no fuera así deberían dedicarse a la poesía), sino porque no tenían el mismo talento para las dos cosas, y encima de esto el título en lugar de abrir l foto a nuestra interpretación lo encerraba en sus palabras.

    • @aows
      @aows  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totalmente de acuerdo, Horacio. No le quise añadir título por esa razón, para dejar al espectador decidir lo que ellos ven en la imagen. Pero entiendo que mucha gente estuviera interesada en saber qué es lo que estaban viendo, así que decidí añadir ese suplemento a mayores en forma de pdf. La verdad es que lo había visto antes en varios libros, el último uno de Sebastiao Salgado. Me gustó mucho la idea pero por alguna razón me olvidé de ello.

    Question: was Amazon KDP not an option for printing and shipping ?

    Es como decís, el orden de las fotos forma parte de la concepción que se quiere transmitir, conforma la obra. Pasa con la música clásica claramente, la sucesión de movimientos conduce a un climax: la novena sinfonía de Beethoven no sería igual si el cuarto movimiento estuviera al principio. Uno después escuchará lo que más le gusta, todas las veces que quiera y según el tiempo de que disponga o las ganas.

    Very informative. Also, your marketing was by TH-cam, that's the key if you're going to sell more than a few books. I would love to make some books, but I'm not a TH-camr so I don't have marketing (Facebook for marketing a photo book....no).

      TH-cam and Instagram. My blog and newsletter helped a bit too. And then, other photographers helped with the promotion by inviting me to their podcasts or by writing about it on their sites. It is true, though -- it's very hard to have good sales if you are just starting out and don't have an audience, unless you are insanely much better than most at your art.

    When using pages, did you just export as a pdf and send to the printer? Does pages give the photos proper resolution?

    • @aows

      Yes, I just exported to a pdf and used the setting "best". That exports the images at full size.

    I hope to get Daniel Milnor here to Gjøvik to make a workshop for publishing and printing on Blurb. After seeing your video I'm even more sure I'll leave everything to Blurb, even this will make the book much more expensive for the customers. But if I become famous enough I'm sure they'll buy it anyway.
