Thanks for your honest review. I think the issue you were talking about related to the advance mechanism, or the advance block as we call it. It is quite a complex but heavily made part and there is a three-pronged pawl mechanism that can give odd problems like this but even after refurbishing those components, we were still getting that odd slippage and we couldn't see exactly why this was happening or whether it was due to wear on one of the other advance block components. We get many cameras that have been heavily used but worse - poorly repaired over the years and these require a lot of work. Spare parts are always difficult to obtain and individual components for that mechanism are generally not available. Perhaps an entirely new advance block would have been the best solution but of course, I can't remember whether we had any available at the time, or if we did, was it considered too expensive to fix? If you still have the camera, send it back and we'll see if we solve the problem.
Best place in Europe..? Haha. I do not know, if you consider Switzerland being in Europe.., but you can easily service an old Leica at the official Leica Service-Center. I am waiting for my M2 to come back from there - that‘s the reason I watched your video in the meantime. I really do not get your point: why don‘t you simply give your Leica to Leica..? Who else would know better..?
Hey there. Thanks for watching.leica charges 175 euros per hour. Camerworks used to charge 175 pounds for the entire service at the time (without extra charges). A repair like this would take at least 4-5 hours if done even half ass. If its done very properly you are looking at even more hours. I got the camera for 400 euros. It was just not worth it. Yes leica does a great job but very very expensive
The official Leica stores in the UK acknowledge Cameraworks as one of the best. Leica store Manchester uses Cameraworks and they themselves told me they're the best repair company in Europe and get cameras from all over the world. So it's not just hype.
