This is so beautiful! I guess that the prince is a kind of scholar that studies about the definition of vanity through his research in books of philosophy but and at the same time by writing his own thoughts among the pages of his own book, while he dances with quill in such sophisticated way trying to define himself what the books haven't yet defined. That vanity could be an innocent explanation of reflecting beauty without reflecting ego. And this is why he admires peacocks while through history and in the past, peacock feathers are known to be symbols of vanity and beauty considered mostly in tradition symbols of demons. The prince stares around him in efforts to be inspired about his topic he chose, however entering his narrow garden, greeting his peacock he is tempted to taste some of the finest wine. And thought to thought, lost in his mind, he doesn't realize that he had consumed much of the wine and intoxicated through a vertigo he falls asleep. It is then that he sees a dream. He sees himself as the incarnation of the peacock roaming through the same place on a different parallel life with his own. He becomes part of his own words, his own syllogism on how it is formed within his subconscious. He experiences himself through the form of vanity incarnated as himself. And after that, he wakes up and realizing it was just a dream, he takes his half written book and his quill in his grip and decides that what he is searching for an answer is hidden within the paragraphs of a story. While without inspiration reasonable definitions resonate quite impossible to be solved, explained or explored. He knows that through such conundrums of philosophy one can meet the aspiration of creativity and art.
Can I just say, "WOW." LOL. But on a serious note, I really like your idea, also think the possibility of it being like that is quite intriguing. I think your perspective is very interesting, very interesting indeed... I find it interesting in more ways than one. One of them because, once, in school we had a task to write an original short story that had a moral to it (and tell it in our own words). I wrote (although I can't remember it in detail) about a peacock and an ugly animal. The peacock was only judged by his outer beauty instead of his inner one, and the ugly animal faked his kindness (inner beauty) to take advantage of all the others. But along the way, the ugly animal saw what true beauty meant and then truly became beautiful. The ugly animal also appreciated and showed everyone else the peacock's true beauty, they also found a true friend in each other. Because of his beauty, the peacock was thought to be an arrogant, prideful, vainglorious being-- when in reality, that was the furthest thing from the truth. But his inner beauty and kindness was never taken into account, appreciated, or even thought to be true; everyone thought he was looking down on them all, when in fact, he was just being kind. Everyone else envied what he had and so they stayed on the superficial-- wishing for what he had and being bitter-- instead of diving deeper into his soul and appreciating his kindness. While the animal who wasn't beautiful, instead quite ugly, pretended to be kind to win the people's favor. They would-- unknowingly-- say, "he may be ugly but his kindness sure shines through. If only that peacock could be as kind as he, or if he could be as beautiful as the peacock, then that would do justice." Despite everything, the peacock stayed true to himself and remained kind and beautiful, even when the ugly animal would make fun of him and tell him he was stupid for remaining kind when everyone thought he wasn't and stupid for not taking advantage of them. But as time past he saw the truth. He saw that kindness was not only good for those receiving it but for those who gave it as well. He saw that the peacock lived his life in truth and in love and there was nothing more beautiful than that.
