Stray Kids make their own beats… Bang Chan (leader of the group) in particular is very inventive with sounds. They call their style “mala taste,” meaning hot or spicy. I’m not a K-pop aficionado, but it seems to me that Stray Kids has more of a Western feel… or maybe it’s just their originality that stands out from the others. 🔥🔥🔥
Someone once counted they have about 40 different genres in their music and sometimes a few within one song. They have just dropped a more traditional pop sounding song called Lose My Breath which may surprise you. K-pop is full of duality though. You mentioned assuming it was all a bit cheesy and cutesy and these guys can be like that too. It's part of the kpop culture. One minute they look like they'll tear you to shreds and the next they are giggling and speaking in silly voices. That is just how kpop is. However, when it comes to their craft, they are hardcore dedicated and focused on staying true to their authentic "mala taste". You've heard their hard hitting songs, their new one is pop and they also have gorgeous vocals as displayed on The First Take live song series where they've sung numerous times. Couldn’t agree more, about them practically being their own genre. There are 8 of them (used to be 9). All 8 can sing, dance, and rap. There is a main rap line made of these 4: Changbin, Han, Hyunjin, and Felix. The remaining 4 are the main vocals line: Seungmin, I.N, Lee Know, Bang Chan. The writing and producing are done mainly by 3 of them, Bang Chan, Changbin, and Han, though the others have all contributed on a few songs of their own. I love this group because my playlist is often all over the place with regards to the different genres I like to listen to, and them encompassing so many different types of genres fits the bill perfectly.

If you want to see a different side of Stray Kids, I would recommend one of their live First Take sessions. Scars, Lost Me, or Slump. These really show off their vocals and have a slower pace.
Since they write and produce their own music, Stray Kids like to dip their toes in TONS of different genres and moods. Their songs have used EDM, trap, jazz, old school boombap, Bossa Nova, ballad, hard rock, Latin, soft rock, traditional Asian elements, lighthearted songs, really dark songs, classical music elements, and much, much more. And they're not afraid to make some experimental songs, even if they know those particular songs may not be huge commercial successes. They also have a number of songs that have a healthy sense of fun and humor in them. Their songs are sung in all English, or all Korean, or all Japanese, or a combination of Korean/English or Japanese/English.
