For f*** sake. Learn your s*** before you give it. The 'on back' position is very important to see if a pup will grow into an adult dog with high dominance (not good as you the owner must be alpha male). I do agree, I don't know everything. But, I would say, when doing temperament training, where possible (not always easy) the pup should be tested without it's siblings, current owners, and any distractions like the baby doll toy, for best results. I do think the pup was over stimulated. ill happily say this is only an opinion, but it f***s me off people saying negative remarks when actually if they're that bothered, they should already have the insight, research, and knowledge to know what they are trying to slag off. In response to Luna Bar...... TOTALLY AGREE with you! adoption/rescue is the way to go!!!!!! So many beautiful canines are thrown away. By buying from breeders we are encouraging them to breed more. And not all breeders are responsible breeders.

I understand holding and seeing how much they squirm, etc. But, what about the paper bag, the piece of paper, the cat, and the load sound? What types of things are you looking for that would show good temperament? Thanks for sharing.
It's about reactions to unknown situations, noises and manipulation. How they deal with surprise, fear or frustration. How brave, stubborn, calm or shy they are. How much they trust humans and where their thresholds lie. The paper thing for example is a noise which is mostly unpleasant for dogs ears. How does it react on it? Curious, restrained, ignoring? It's unusual for most animals to go into a dark place, they don't know. How does the dog react on the paper bag? Is it investigating this scary place? The cat thing has something to do with surprise and fear, is it distressed, does it react with fearful aggression, is it looking for protection . Most of the shown methods are adaptations to everyday noises, smells and situations. For example falling and breaking dishes, screaming and pushy children and their toys as well. I felt sorry for the puppy as well, because it was really much, but you usually do this test just once, to find out, if the temper of the dog matches your lifestyle. And this is so important, as to prevent it from ending in an animal shelter with hard missbehaviour caused by fear and bad experiences. Knowing the temper helps the owner to find out how to deal with his dog, because most misbehaviours base on misunderstandings by the humans.
I can say the loud sound one is important for those looking to hunt with their Vizsla. (which is what they are bred for) They need to be okay hearing loud bangs (like a gunshot)
I raise/train vizslas. Yrs and yrs of dogs. Dogs 101.....determine what you have and train with that in mind. Not everyone gets to pick the "perfect" pup. If the pup is shy, build its confidence. If its an "alfa" temperment, train it to sumit to your will. You are the "alfa dog". I love training pups, blank pieces of paper to draw on, new computers to program. I prefer the alfa pups but they will always test you as dogs to see if your still #1. Submissive pups can be a challenge because of fear, must take it easy on them and bud their confidence in constructive ways. First thing, determine the tempement of your pup. You already have chosen the breed, for various reasons. Understand the breed first and then you can understand your "individual" pup/dog. Vizslas are very smart, prepare wisely my son.
