Contentious opinion, but the father is completely in the right. People always say, "don't put your kids in the middle", and fine. So don't give a heavily invective filled rant about how much their parent is scum, but don't disrespect your childs intelligence by keeping them out of the loop. That just emboldens the already untrustworthy party to cook up a narrative of their own. As it is, the OP didn't tell his kids shit. The grandmother did. The father just chose not to bullshit the kids for the sake of the mothers reputation.
Yeah, I agree that children shouldn't be a part of that (especially as a child who lived through that), but it wasn't the father who crossed that line.
they wasn't put in the middle, he tried his best to not involve them, and they found out. Those kids found out without him having to tell them and than he told the truth. he didn't make the kids hate their mom, the kids found out, they have great thinking skills and knew for sure by being lil investigators most kids are. i agree to not putting kids between each other. i always say, look i want you to know your parent thats up to you and my kids dont like their other parent, i dont say anything about my ex, they find out themselves and they make decisions on their own.
I think a lot of people in these stories don’t get especially with the parents of the children is that actions have consequences? If you do bad things people are not gonna treat you the same what you do affect others and it’s going to change everything. this ex wife cheated on her husband and her kids found out and was like that’s wrong, “I’m not gonna want to be around someone who does that”and I think this is what the ex wife needs to get.
I mean the father didn’t even do anything wrong, the kids are probably at the age of understanding that sort of thing and he only told the truth. And i mean ofc the mother did do it and it should be told to the kids because that was a decision to cheat on the father
