      Thanks Mark, it's great seeing new wildlife but I do miss some from home, that said it all adds to the experience. Wow, that must have been really special and one you'd be hard to forget, thanks for sharing that with me. R👍

    Cheers Rich, fantastic you’re getting to see new species. Always good to be cautious and respect what’s around you. Had encounters with Moose, Bear and Wolf in the nineties in Montana. All amazing, the Moose was definitely more concerning followed by the Bears. Never felt threatened or in any danger from the Wolves. Stay well and safe travels. All the best. 👍📷😎

      Thanks Rob, yeah it's never good to take these situations lightly as you never can tell. Wow, thats awesome to hear and I bet to witness, my next more to Ottawa will present me with better views of these amazing mammals. Yeah Moose can be pretty bad especially with young! Then you are in the Poo! You to and thanks for watching. 👍

    Great video Rich. I was trying to photograph a treecreeper this evening - pesky thing dodged me every time! Also been enjoying time with a local barn owl in the late evening. Great to be out amongst it even though hay-fever season has arrived. Love your hawk photos - they're quite dumpy looking in the air. Best of luck with the wolf :)

      Thanks Mike, yeah they are a tricky bird to get a decent picture of, mine were at distance and cropped quite a bit but still pleased to have videoed them. Oh the dreaded Hay Fever, that can prove a nightmare for thew Wildlife photographer, I hope you had some good opportunities with the Owls? They are quite Dumpy, well put! Thanks mate👍

    Beautiful Broad Winged Hawk footage. Never heard of those before. There are so many varieties of birds that look fairly similar. Best to keep your dogs on leads in the woods (likely you are), just in case they decide to chase after a coyote, wolf or bear. If the animal then starts chasing the dog, it will likely run right back to you. Looking forward to part 3.

      Thanks Phil, loads of different wildlife and it's great to learn and see new species. Yeah, they are well trained so will recall and don't ever stray too far but I would always have them on close control just in case. Nobody wants that happening. R👍

    Hi Richard, I enjoyed your video. You are right to be aware of your surroundings at all times, but there is little reason to worry too much. As a Canadian who loves nature I have encountered wolves, bears and other big mammals several times. Wolves seem to have been given a bad rap in popular mythology and are seldom more than curious if they see me. I have never personally seen any aggressive behaviour towards humans at all, nor know of anyone who has.. I have also encountered grizzly bears and as long as they are not surprised by you suddenly appearing in their space, they just take note of your presence and leave you undisturbed. Black bears are a little more unpredictable but if unsurprised I have had no trouble.. I did elicit a with mock charge one when.I believe I surprised a mother and came between it and its cub. Black bears do have a history of attacking humans so caution is warranted. The only animal that has actively charged and pursued me is a mother moose, I almost certainly between it and its calf while traversing a wooded trail. Otherwise as long as they are aware of you and you don't surprise them up close, you will be fine. Good luck finding many more new to you wildlife.

      Thanks very much for watching and for your advice, it's always a difficult one when you've never had a proper experience watching them to study their behaviour. I hope to be able to get more chances when we move to Ottawa in July. It's such a shame that they get such a bad press as do Coyotes, here in the City people are generally Freaked out by them, if they only knew how close they live to them! All my experiences although limited have been good, the first thing they do is move away from you! I've heard Moose are the ones to watch when they have young! Standard with protective parents but all great advice. Thanks again R👍

    • @RichardBirchett
      @RichardBirchett  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah, it's a top spot mate. Not all sadly Vince, but some love seeing new species so as long as people like it that's all that matters to me. Personally I like seeing different species but I am a naturalist and don't always have to see stuff from the UK. Cheers for watching. 🙏👍

    That Sapsucker reminds me a lot of the Great Spotted Woodpecker in the UK. Are they a related species?

    • @RichardBirchett

      Yeah they do look quite similar. The Down and Hairy Woodpeckers look even more similar. Not directly related only by being a Woodpecker. Cheers👍
