Same here. Completely in my wheelhouse and far from the only subscribed channels with heavy German accents, too. Hope he leaves the videos up at least.
Hi Michael, I am also one of those people to whom a video of yours has been recommended for the first time. It may sound strange, as I obviously did not watch you in the past, but I wish to thank you for creating this channel and these videos. What is immediately obvious is that this was truly a labour of love and the kind of content that makes TH-cam worth visiting, even if the platform itself sometimes fails to recognize it. I wish you good health, good luck and success in your life. Thank you, again, for your time and your knowledge, which you made available to us through this channel.
I only JUST discovered your channel today. It really seems like a cruel joke that TH-cam starts recommending your channel only when you are quitting. It's like the algorithm is being a complete troll/bully to your channel. Just awful. I wish you well in the future.
there is some weird history to this channel. Originally, I was lamdamikel@gmail.com. And then they took that name away and gave me this weird name with all the numbers instead. Seems they needed the name for other purposes.
Sorry to hear this, Michael. Your videos are always very interesting and educational. In particular, how you brought some of the more unusual computers to new audiences. Thank you for sharing your videos with the world. Wishing you all the best.
Wow, of course I get recommended this channel right on the final video. This is a truly authentic video and channel, unlike what most of TH-cam has become. I wish you the best on your future endeavors and never lose your passion!
Sorry to see you go -- YT suggested your channel to me just today, b/c yesterday, I searched for information on the Alphatronic PC. I grew up in the 1970ies and 1980ies, and the Alphatronic was one of the machines I've always seen in catalogs, but was never able to buy. Thanks for your videos about these machines! 🙂
Thank you so much Michael for all your great videos and ideas for the retro computers. It has always been a delight and pleasure to visit your YT channel. Take care.
I only discovered this channel a few months ago. Your videos have brought back such fond memories of my youth, learning on and modifying various TRS-80s. Thank you for that, Michael.
Wow, I've never come across your channel before but always had a neat fascination of microcontroller/old computers and electronics (And odd fascination as I am only 23, and some of these old beauties are almost double as old as I am). TH-cam only today recommended this video and your channel. Terrible timing and of all videos its a sign off video, But I have a small backlog of content I can go through of yours and I shall enjoy. Terrible to see you go and I wish you the best in your future endeavours.
It really feels bad that the algorithm didn't show you to me until now, since 70s and 80s microcomputer projects are one of my favorite things to watch on the platform.
Thanks! I really appreciate that you guys are sharing my sentiment that the YT algorithm is highly biased and rigged. It's not conspiracy theory. They are systemically suppressing certain content, for whatever reasons.
When something good ends, it's always sad. Thank you for all the work you've done. "The wrarh of the MCPC" will always have a place in my heart. I wish you lots of good things for your future projects.
A few things: 1) Sorry I didn't get to watch your channel while it was still live. I will surely go through your archives for the Atari 800XL content, if nothing else. 2) A lot of your voice synthesis reminds me Dr. Sbaitso, a fake AI speech synthesis from the MS DOS era, 3) You have done more with vintage computers than I could ever dream. Thank you for keeping these majestic beasts not only alive, but vibrantly so.
the YT algo blessed me with this vid and channel randomly. I'm actually working on my cassette futurism rack with various monitors & devices and want to have various videos and "AI" interactions show on it. I bought a couple Sony PVM and LCD rack monitor panels. I have some random stuff too. I want to kind of make it look like something out of the movie Alien(s) or Blade Runner. I saw your other video too right now and I went to the MoMA in NYC (first time in NYC) just to see the Connection Machine. I've been a huge fan of it and have some PDFs and an actual book about it too. I've even talked to Tamiko Thiel. I love the idea of visualizing the "thinking" part of the machine via blinkenlights. So my homelab cases are built around that idea; maximizing blinkenlights, mostly through excessive amount of drive hotswap bays. I don't personally own any cool older machines yet. I'm mostly limited right now by the size of my apartment. I've had chances to even own some old IBM mainframes (Z systems) but I couldn't put them anywhere. I suspect once I have an actual home, I will turn into a bigger hoarder and go all out more.
@bjornrathje746 thanks! Well, the torch has been passed on to the next generation of Microtronic researchers - check out Jason's channel th-cam.com/video/Fd1cmPdB5EE/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared. He is taking it to the next level!
Good luck with your future endeavours. Like many others in the comments I too was never was offered your videos until the YT algorithm pushed your exit video for spite. Please archive your videos some place else as well to prevent accidental deletion of your work here on YT. Your content is not exactly what I would watch but I am impressed by your skill and wide range of machines you have worked on. Thank you for the polite and informative video.
I subscribed to your channel 2 days ago after seeing it recommended on Bluesky. I can't wait to go through your content and I wish you well for your future.
Thanks for that - I never heard of Bluesky. The biggest problem with YT is the algorithm, and algorithmic bias / shadow banning. I always thought I would be getting more views over the years, but the opposite is the case. I am barely getting any impressions - whereas in principle, I don't care that much as I am not on Patreon or financially dependent on the YT channel, it does take away the fun a bit. According to YT, my videos really seem to suck - and they are probably right :D Who wants to listen to this German guy with the weird accent, slaughtering the beautiful English language all the time :-) Anyhow, I think there is by now so much shadow banning and suppression of content on YT (not getting any impressions, for whatever I do) that it's no longer fun. Add the haters whose comment's I frequently had to delete... I think without being on Patreon, a Social Media "campaign" backing and advertising the channel (like on X or what have you), and without perfect English, it's probably impossible nowadays to get good impression rates from the YT algorithm these days. Even if the content might be unique and/or interesting. So - having good content alone doesn't cut it any longer, and unfortunately I don't have the time and/or resources to produce higher quality video. It was just a little hobby side gig of mine to show off some projects. Anyhow, I thank you all for following me, it was fun while it lasted! Cheers, Michael
@@michaelwessel4953funnily I found your channel because the algorithm showed me this video. YT is very unfair to subjects that doesn't drain your intelligence.

I never heard of you before. TH-cam is becoming a disaster. The only thing I get from it is established good channels and clickbait. It's algorithm promotes clickbait over good stuff liker yours.
Yeah TH-cam has quite the algorithm. Just announce the end of you channel and boom! right in my feed. Sorry you're leaving, but I will enjoy the vids you've got. Best Wishes!
Your english is fine. Yes, I can hear the German tendencies in how you speak. But it's very mild. Your voice is no problem, and your pronunciation is clear. Regarding viewership. We retro computer enthusiasts are a small but dedicated group in the grand scheme of things. And within our entire group, there are smaller groups interested in TRS-80s for instance or other more obscure things. Its really cool to have videos about much of this stuff and have things documented etc. But I can see how getting traction can be difficult even with quality content. Your channel might not be mainstream, but the content might still be of great value for the audience you have/had. So thanks for the years of contribution 🙌 👍
why is it youtube suppresses the content I WANT to see and keeps feeding the same few videos I dont to my feed? I find this amazing channel and only after the guy leaves for the exact same reason??
This is an unfortunate situation, and I can relate to that. The TH-cam algorithm is made to promote useless big media and not small creators, and the name should be changed to "TheirTube", which would be also fitting for other reasons. View throttling is very real, as I only get a predetermined amount of views per day, and I get less if I get one subscriber that day. The ads on the platform are unbearable and ever growing. The site itself is slow. Anyway, only now I was able discover your channel, so I can guess that the TH-cam algorithm is doing a disservice, because this is the kind of content I usually search and I could have found it already. Anything electronics or computer related pleases me. Subscribed!
Hi Michael, thank you for your inspirational videos. I just found you about a month ago. I was searching for my old Acorn Atom and got sidetracked a bit. It just is difficult to find good quality information on these older systems, but probably better than what is produced nowadays, everything ‘in the cloud’ almost everything hidden behind big walls, intellectual property smoke screens. I hope you leave the videos accessible for learning/reference/inspiration. Anyway, thank you for playing, learning, investigating, sharing.
