Increment 500 seemed really good for an actually-playable game. kinda balanced well between still getting to high speeds easily, but still giving each round time to play out. I'd love to watch more of that (maybe on constant speed too, I was sad I didn't get to see that!)
Ball speeds up everytime you hit it (with constant speed), but it can demo you if it hits you directly. I can already imagine Guh playing goalie, and the ball shooting towards him at mach 10 speeds, demoing him and getting scored.

I have also been wanting this since heatseeker came out or at least one with a higher max speed. Would be interesting to see it with the heat-seeking ability might be fun especially if you don't have great mechanics.
Cool idea to maybe make it easier to know how fast it is, is to change the ball colour going from green glow or something to red and then purple how you measure it would depend of how accurate you want it to be. Maybe ball touches is what is tracks or just speed both could work just wouldn't scale if you did just speed. Keep up the great work leth!

Here’s an idea. Use the constant speed idea, but make the ball max speed the same as the normal game and allow car touches to affect the speed of the ball. Basically, however hard/fast you hit it, that’s the new speed of the ball and it doesn’t slow down or speed up until another car makes a touch. Think of it as a more standardized version of constant speed ball.

That mode where the ball goes same speed seems like it could be a lot of fun. A map with only a few curved angles and the right ball speed would be pretty cool. How much can you change? Can you make the ball have a base speed it always goes at, but still allow for hits to temporarily increase the speed? Like, if you hit the ball below its base speed, it just flies off at its base speed. But when you hit it faster than its base speed, it'll fly away at the new speed and have all the regular slowing effects until it slows back down to its base speed?
That constant speed ball could be used as a Bludger from Quidditch, where if it hits someone they explode. And you could add in the football effect of carrying and passing the ball like the Quaffle. Add something for an instant win Snitch, and you've got Quidditch in Rocket League
It's disappearing because the physics engine (bullet something I think) checks for collisions frame by frame (I.e. every 8 milliseconds or so) so if the ball is going fast enough for it's position to be updated from one side of the wall to the other in one frame, the engine never detects the collision and just let's the ball phase right through. With the coming upgrade to unreal engine 5, they could choose to use the other kind of collision detection where you use the equation of the path of the ball to check for collisions ahead of time to avoid this. If they did this, the ball would probably appear to phase out of existence for a bit (it would be blinking in and out of existence all over the map too fast to track) and then phase back in as it slows to a comprehensible speed.
Leth, please make a mode where the ball is deadly and if you touch it you go back into the safe zone (the goal) where the ball can’t get in but you can. I got this idea from 17:22 watching the ball go around and around gave me this idea. The point system is that if you get to the other side of the field that’s one point but if you get back while not getting hit either time that’s two points. I call it rocket league dodge ball
So what I think is happening with the ball vanishing is a pretty common bug with collision physics in games, where if an object is too fast, it's on one side of a collision hitbox on one frame and on the other side on the next.
Why did it take me four years to realize rocket league has a community? Although I'd say this is a good way to find out. Memes and friends, just the way I like it.
