Inside the Volcano tour is a pretty cool expedition to take. It is close to Reykjavik. If you have a couple of days, I recommend renting a car and driving the Ring Road. Spectacular scenery along the road. I drove to Jokularson Glacier Lagoon. Iceland is a wonderful country to visit.

Interesting that Icelandic stayed close to the old Viking language. Many Japanese interested in the history of their language, come to Brazil to listen to how Japanese sounded like back in 1908, when the first immigrants arrived in Santos. According to these researchers, Japanese Brazilians still sound like early 20th century Japanese.

Um, the hot dog is not covered with "gravy", it's a brown mustard sauce and the white sauce is a type of Remoulade. The hot dogs are made of lamb, beef & pork, they are fabulous! How could you not mention Sigur Ros, they are just as famous (if not more) than Bjork!

I don't know that they're *more* famous, but they're definitely *better*!!
No Icelandic citizen is more famous than Björk. Sigur-Rós followed in her wake and are well known the world over, so are Of Monsters And Men and the latest contribution is Kaleo. But there is no reason to diminish the fame that Björk has aspired to or her contribution to world music.

I really don't get the allure of the Blue Lagoon, there are so many other cool places to visit, it's just a tourist trap.
And why is it so expensive. It's all naturally heated and developed..........
Oh no we are nordic not scandinavian ! Only Danmark Norway and Sweden are scandinavian and they together with Iceland Finnland The Faroe islands and Greenland are the nordic countries =0)

Beyond Iceland is not quite right as Iceland is part of Europe.
A lot of misinformation in this - not what I would expect from a Rick Steves talk.
Indeed. The story of Iceland's independence was nonsense for example. They made it sound like Denmark lost Iceland because of Nazism. lol Iceland had long been moving towards that independence and it would have happened around that time anyway. It's not like Denmark ever planned on using force to prevent it or anything, it was known that they wanted to move in that direction. They were basically in the situation that Greenland and Faroe Islands are in now. They're self-governing but just members of the Danish Realm, not the country of Denmark.
Here's a short quote from Wiki:
"The Act of Union, a December 1, 1918, agreement with Denmark, recognized Iceland as a fully sovereign state-the Kingdom of Iceland-joined with Denmark in a personal union with the Danish king. Iceland established its own flag. Denmark was to represent its foreign affairs and defense interests. Iceland had no military or naval forces, and Denmark was to give notice to other countries that it was permanently neutral. The act would be up for revision in 1940 and could be revoked three years later if agreement was not reached. By the 1930s the consensus in Iceland was to seek complete independence by 1944 at the latest.[15]"
It's not like Iceland suddenly declared independence out of the blue, or like they actively saw a chance for independence because Denmark got occupied. it was always going to happen and Denmark had agreed to that long before WWII.
