This album was massive in the day. The reason a lot of her vocals were live was because she got so nervous that she sounded like “Kermit the frog” (her words, not mine) in the recording studio. I have been fortunate enough to see her live and a recording can not capture the true powerhouse of her vocals. The other thing that is impressive, she plays the guitar herself on all of those songs and live. You must give her next 3 albums a listen. The musical evolution is amazing to see. Whilst her musical style evolves, her folk style lyrics is at the heart of everything she does and if you get an opportunity to view some of her live performances you will not regret it.

This was the first ever album I bought when I was in 6th grade-on cassette, for my Walkman. Still one of my all-time favorites, and an absolute favorite to sing along to. This was a wonderful reaction-I could tell you were really listening deeply. Plus you have a great smile! Have you listened to Ren yet? Highly recommend reacting to Hi Ren.
It's been so long but I still know every last word to this entire album. I played Angel Standing By at my sister's funeral 19 years ago. She loved Jewel so much.
This album was sooo massive and really quite an unexpected success back then. Love this album, so vulnerable and real. Love those almost demo-like vocals on some of the songs. Jewel is such a rare jewel 😅

she was only about 19 when the album came out.. now she does country.. she had a remix album come out about 10 years ago with dance remixes of some of her biggest hits including Foolish Games which she re recorded for the remix
cause gay bashing has been happening for much longer than that horrific event :/ But yes crazy still that it predates one of the most infamous examples of it
@@luc-i-guess I know..I remember being afraid to come out in high school because there were a few guys who made alot of homophobic comments.. I was afraid I would get gaybashed... plus I didn't have the greatest homelife either..my dad used to say if I was gay he would disown me and when I did come out, he kicked me out.. I did get raped waiting for a bus one night when I was 18..then having to walk home after that because the bus I had been waiting for was the last of the night..it was scary being a gay teen in the 90s...

As an art major in college when this album came out Painters was my fav song on the album! One of the CDs I listened to the most while painting.
