The AC Mirage Stealth Experience

- Thanks to Ubisoft for providing me with access to Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
I spent the last day or so playing through AC mirage, staying away from the internet at all costs as spoilers and reviews started flooding my feed. I wanted to experience this game as a fan first. Not as a content creator, and not as a member of the community. I wanted to see what I’d FEEL about the game before taking into account what anyone else THOUGHT. And well, I absolutely love it. It’s a game that delivered pretty much exactly what i was expecting it to, and that makes me very, very happy.
I won’t give a full review here since you’ve probably already watched 6,000 of those, but I will give you some of my thoughts and observations about my experience:
The stealth in AC Mirage is…good. In fact, it's very good, but in my opinion, it's not great. To me, AC stealth can only be great when it is facilitated by a good and complex movement system since, for an Assassin, movement and stealth are often joined at the hip more than in other games. Since the movement is still the same mediocre formula that started with Origins, I feel like a lot of Mirage’s additions, such as the different tools, are often stunted and not allowed to shine as much as they should. (this would be even worse if we didn't have Assassin focus as a great movement tool in stealth scenarios)
What I love about the game is exactly what I was hoping I would love: the story, the world and the mission design. Those three things combined have led me to be emotionally invested in a game in a way I haven’t in a long time. The game has effortlessly created countless moments of tension both in and out of missions, where stealth not only feels fun, but necessary, and the risk of detection is so high and the consequences so dire that you really stop and think Jesus this is crazy. You can FEEL the character’s tension and sense of urgency, you can sympathise when they freak out over the possibility of getting caught and its consequences because the game makes them real.
This is a game that I plan to replay many times, since its smaller size has allowed the developers to handcraft all missions and fort layouts, allowing for organic experiences to pop up all the time. I remember one time I was infiltrating a fort in order to assassinate a target: a general of some sort. At the same time, I had a high enough notoriety level that I was being hunted by a mercenary looking to kill me for a reward. So there I was, a hunter looking for his prey, while at the same time being hunted himself.
In any other game like Origins, Odyssey or Valhalla, this would be nothing but a mild inconvenience, since you could easily dispatch them with your overpowered character and resume your mission. But not in this game. In this game, meeting blades with a mercenary means almost certain death, especially in a restricted area where other guards will launch at you the second they detect you. Basim is not a fighter, he is a glass cannon that can deal damage but not take it. So a simple mission about infiltrating a guard outpost and killing a target became a double cat and mouse game where I clear through the stationed guards WHILE staying out of sight of a lurking mercenary WHILE looking for my target and figuring out how to lure him out from his safe box. It was mesmerising how a simple gameplay loop became such a memorable experience, and how many of those there are in this game. (Not to mention those crafted by the narrative itself)
There clearly too much to talk about in this game, but I wanted to let you know that I have been having an amazing time, AC Mirage is a wonderful addition to the franchise and a game I will be playing for many years to come.
Also Top Tip: Use Assassin Focus for movement, rather than multi-kills. It can really speed things up and compensate for the lack of parkour.
Assassin's Creed Mirage is an action-adventure game developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux and published by Ubisoft. The game is the thirteenth major installment in the Assassin's Creed series and the successor to 2020's Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

Give the Mirage Devs a Bigger Budget Now🗣️🗣️
give them the same engine that made unity🗣️🗣️🗣️
They deserve more appreciation, plus altair stealth too
@@ihasankles6737 Stop using "engine" that way. Doesn't make sense. A game engine is not how you move, animations and mechanics. The game engine is bit that tells the game how to draw stuff on the screen. You don't want an old game engine. The current Anvil Next version seems to run beautifully. What you want is smoother animations and deeper more satisfying mechanics.
@@ConnorEllisMusic oh sorry man thanks for the info
@@ihasankles6737who's going to tell him?
Ppl need to unferstand the dev team done so good considering they were given Valhallas engine. If they had a bigger budget and new engine they could make a 9/10 ac game easily, they understand AC.
I agree and thats why im actually gonna purchase the game
Stop using "engine" as an all in one term. The game engine is not the animations, the mechanics or anything you're thinking of. A game engine just tells your game how to draw stuff on your screen. What you want is deeper, more satisfying mechanics and smoother animations.
I love how you're so quick to correct others when you yourself are incorrect. What "tells your game what to draw on screen" is a renderer, not a game engine. A game engine is a suite of tools that covers many aspects from rendering (as you said), to things such as code, physics, animations, (in some cases) rigging and many more.
A game engine CAN have its limitations... for instance, if your renderer only uses DirectX 11 as an API you cannot make use of real-time Raytracing effects... if you have a forward renderer you cannot render screen space effects as efficiently... etc. Moving from the rendering side, you want an object oriented programming language, and a suite of optimisation tools such as support for GPU instancing (particularly in a game with dense crowds such as assassin's creed). AI is made using state machines, which would likely be built into the engine they are using. That could also pose limitations if making a game using an engine not designed for the purpose.
A game as complex as assassin's creed likely has a lot of what helps them develop those mechanics built into the engine, to improve their workflow as it's specifically used for assassin's creed games among other things. It may make use of the same animation system (which can be modified for complexity, but that requires a budget and time, both of which this game didn't have)...
So not to crap on your parade, and I too find everyone's excuses pointing to the engine ridiculous to an extent as they have no idea what they're talking about, but you too don't know what you're talking about.
@@ConnorEllisMusicso more satisfying mechanics they could technically do if they had the time and budget, which they didn't. The game has smoother animations than Valhalla (believe me I've played all the AC games including mirage), but they can only be so smooth. Transitions between animations? The heavy prediction of your character's trajectory (which the past few assassin's creed games have used) that determines which animation to play?
Yeah, that's down to the engine mate, hate to break it to you.
Ubisoft Bordeaux replaced the animations and tweaked the movement speed, they did what they could with the tools, budget and time they were given, and props to them for that.
The game engine doesn't matter Iirc Valhalla uses the same engine as every ac game that came before it (Anvil), just updated. What you should say is that the devs had a limited time frame and were basically told to do what they could with the time that they had, and using Valhalla as a base helped speed up dev time so things like animations, the movement system, and other things were carried over for the sake of releasing the game within a specific time frame
You are showing everyone the potential of the combat and you have completely convinced me in getting the game
but that was stealth not combat :S

Very strong start with that focus air assassination mid back flip Leap of Faith. I also love the mid air throwing knife into focus before touching the ground and I like how you're using focus to not waste any precious time while smoke has a limited duration. The leap of faith Assassin focus kill is the new leap of faith phantom blade kill now lmao
I love how you don't shy away from using Assassin focus, and by leaning into it you get some really interesting pair-ups with tool kills. The mid-air throwing knife and focus combo is my favourite utilisation of Assassin focus I've seen so far. You also don't shy away from using the few tools that you have, which greatly increases the speed and fluidity of stealth (which is the apex of the Assassin fantasy). It's a pity the movement still isn't as good as it used to be, but the stealth looks fantastic so far :)
Yeah i dont use focus as much in normal play just to be immersive, but for videos its a god tier tool
@@AltairStealth well tbf you can still feel immersed while using assassin focus, since it´s not just an animus glitch, as it had been suggested, it´s an animus glitch representing Basim unlocking his "Loki super-speed", so, if you keep in mind that the main character is superhuman, you can use the ability in your normal play
From what I've seen, I'm genuinely impressed by everything except the parkour. If this studio had a bigger budget and more time I have no dount they would've brought back an old parkour system or made a new one influenced by the old ones. The game looks really good
parkour isn’t great but it’s pretty fun still thanks to the environment

this teleporting just makes it feel like a very casual walk in the park... especially since you can teleport during the fall
Its a very OP tool
I agree it looks pretty mindless. But, let's remember; "fast forwarding memory to a more recent one." This essentially is just converting the Animus filling in gaps into gameplay. As such, I can forgive it myself.
@@user-wc4mh6lz5c in AC1 that fast forwarding was just to skip the annoying traveling, and in this game it's cheesing the gameplay
@@lepersonnage371it could be argued that skipping the annoying traveling is cheesing the gameplay. Let’s not forget in origins Eagle vision was almost entirely “animus pulse”.
Assassins focus is Loki using Basims body to kill, which is why Basim reacts to it. He doesnt remember it happening he just seems to teleport and because of this we just see him teleport because we are reliving Basims memories not lokis, it makes sense with the Animus!!!
this is the best explanation i've read
This is the way it’s meant to be used! A whole new movement skill gap in the game. Then it’s not an op ability but lore accurate Basim’s ability to move so fast!
Basim is rapid
Spot on, brother; "fast forwarding memory to a more recent one" is really all I interpret it as. Such a nice detail

Loved your usage of Focus. It's not just a chain kill ability, it's an extremely strong tool for traversal, escapes, closing gaps, increasing the reach of your air assassination. In fact it's foolish to use Focus for chain killing multiple guards grouped together when you can Focus kill one guard, smoke and assassinate the rest of them, or else it would be a wastage of Focus. I'm absolutely in love with the versatility of this tool and how it opens up so many opportunities for creativity when used alongside other tools and manual ejects
Exactly, the sooner people see the true value of focus, the cooler the gameplay will be
@@AltairStealthI just imagine Basim doing crazy acrobatics to get where he's going considering we only see the end point my only problem with it is it seems a little to strong since you can use it from a lower elevation but it doesn't bother me that much as it did... certain people
@@AltairStealththe slomo is nice the teleport not a fan at all
@@Simon25-17 Not a huge fan of the teleporting myself, but I’m thinking that the devs wanted something akin to the double assassinations of the older games, but since Mirage was built using assets from Valhalla and the other RPG titles which lacked double assassinations they created Focus as a way to take down multiple guards in quick succession. Now, I’ve not played Valhalla or Odyssey and it’s been awhile since Origins so I could be mistaken, but I don’t remember seeing double assassinations in any footage from those games. They did the best they could with limited time and a reliance on assets not built for a stealth-oriented game.
Damn never thought of doing that other than the traversal ngl
But why music while free roaming isn't fucking permanent? I just don't understand why they keep doing that. Why it can't be like the old Acs where the ambient music was always present???

Nicely done. Really happy to see stealth is a reliable and encouraged playstyle in Mirage. I'm torn about Assassin's Focus, sometimes I wished it was more like Arkham's or GoT's fear takedown/kill chain (an uninterrupted chain of animations), but at the same time I'm glad the franchise is not ashamed of it's unique blend of historical and sci-fi anymore
The stealth is great they stuck the landing for sure
Pro tip: if you're aming a knife while close to a wall/tall obstacle, u enter a cover mode, from which you can throw knifes from there while staying unseen, there are some nice combos, like aiming a knife at one guard, whistle to attract another one, headshot the one standing further away and finish it with a cover corner kill
Classic thank you

Stopping time and teleporting midair is definitely the game going back to its roots.
Yup just like unity's shape shifting or syndicate's invisibility
Quit being biased when you had cloaking in Syndicate and Shape-shifting in unity and let's not forget we had a fist fight with a pope in the Vatican who pulled out a 22nd century staff on us in Ac2. Stop complaining about minor teleportating.
Luckily it can be disabled and is the limit of the unrealistic parts of Mirage from what I've seen, which with what we've had before, is a real improvement
Remember; "fast forwarding memory to a more recent one." Assassin's focus is essentially just translating the animus filling in gaps into gameplay. As such, I can forgive it. But, I do see your point, brother. It certainly simplifies most encounters.
@@user-wc4mh6lz5c The only thing is that I heard that Basim actually reacts to it, which kinda ruins that point. Idk for sure, haven't gotten to that part yet, but there's a bit of inconsistency on what it is

I am now 16, close to 17 years of age, I am Romanian, I don't speak perfect english so excuse my mistakes. I have come at a time when I barely play videogames because I am more involved in reading and other social activities , but I still find time for a restrict group of SOME. I am a history pasionate and I often find myself playing Age of Empires and ,yes, Assassin's Creed. I value this franchise very much because of the HUGE historical significance of these games. They are very well documented and helped me a lot in my middle school and high school. They are a part of me, culturaly and emotinatly.
I agree, they are not GOATs. Even the newer ones are bad sometimes from a gameplay perspective but have so much information to offer.
I have recentley found myself buying the RPG trilogy on my PS5 for study. The Guides are VERY, VERY, well done. The team is very passionate about the world, details and accuracy. I know they are at times bad, Valhalla especialy (the only good thing abt that game is the guide and ending), but if you look through the cracks they have a very rich culture, passion and dedication to unravel.
I am the only one in my friend group who pre-ordered AC Mirage instead of Spiderman. That game is not as important to allocate time to, instead of homework, friend meetings or learning. But i know that in the end AC will have me more chisseled than before.
I know that nobody will read my comment, by to the one that does I wabt to tell that the AC franchise consists of something more than games. It is a cultural heritage incapsuled in a disc.
PLEASE TAKE IT AS IS.
Wise words
The AC Mirage experience too me is loving an AC again, when not really expecting to anymore. I am aware it is not a perfect game. But the gameplay loop is just so good and I think a lot of people nowadays confuse AC to originally be an out and out AAA franchise, because it was always popular. But that's a misconception. And this game proves it doesn't always need to be a massive AAA title.
I'm glad we got it, and judging by the amount of sold copies / files, they may have incentive to make more of that some time in the future. Development costs are significantly lower than for 80+ hours giant map mammoths, too.

Bro already mastered the game

One thing that I’ve noticed about this game. A lot of the stuff they added is not surface level at all. The entire notoriety system is super unique. At certain notorieties NPCs will actually look at your wanted posters and then make the correlation that you’re the same person and report you to guards. Some NPCs can witness you pickpocketing or killing someone and then find a guard and point you out even when you’re blending to the guard who will then start noticing you after they point you out. The hunters will even ask npcs that you’ve interacted with if they’ve seen you and they’ll respond with yes and then say “really? Where did he go?”. The entire notoriety system isn’t just 2 dimensional guards seeing you or not. It goes as deep as how the NPCs of the world react to you and your actions which is absolutely phenomenal to me.
The devs went very deep
@@AltairStealth I’m honestly gonna die on the hill that this may be one of the most hand crafted and has the most care put into even that of the ezio trilogy. The mechanics and even the upgrade system feel very nice, the only reason there’s mixed reviews imo is cause on the very surface layer it looks like the past 3 games but they changed so much it’s wild man, it’s honestly sad that people likely won’t realize for a while and then Ubisoft won’t realize how much we like this style more given how much care went into this one. This game is like FNV where they had a set engine and stuff to work with and still made an entirely new system that rivals even some of the past stuff.
The reversed leap of faith made my jaw drop 😂
In the words of anakin: try spinning, thats a good trick!
I've been reading peoples takes on Mirage in comments sections, some people are clowning on how the parkour wasn't even that good (it really isn't great but I still like it and appreciate the effort), or how the world feels empty. But those people shouldn't expect like RDR2 levels of detail. But I and most likely many others kept our expectations simple and we got a great product in the end! The gameplay absolutely makes up for everything, it's my most favorite since Black Flag, the kills are satisfying if you do it cleanly. Throwing knives + the slow motion air ability is also REALLY damn fun. The tools (which i've yet to utilize to their extent) are very PRACTICAL and you can find yourself using them a LOT in gameplay. And I know some people bashed on the teleport ability, but when you use it like how you did in the video, who cares? It's all the more satisfying. With the time and budget the dev team were given, I think they did us a solid.
I love the game

I can not express how happy I am with how this game has turned out. After Odyssey, I accepted this was going to be the new format. But, I wanted more ORIGINS. Same i am so happy with it
i agree with what you said about the stealth being affected by parkour, however, seeing people like you, raieduhar or xeneus playing stealth and especially xeneus parkour video, it makes me think that with the last 4 games you can still achieve some amazing parkour runs and moves if you work hard to master it, even more so with mirage having a city designed for parkour and stealth, i loved this game so, so much... the problem is that you have to work harder than in previous games to make your runs look good and the new games will never achieve the complexity of the classics or the greatness unity had, unless they go back to that in the future which seems very unlikely, and that´s sad, but yeah i think with mirage it can be done if you work for it and the story and notoriety system also help with selling the assassin feeling like you said. Maaan i loved this game, obviously i won´t say it surpassed the classics, especially the ezio trilogy but it turned out to be one of my favorites and it delivered what it was said to be and what i expected, so now all i can do is watch pros like you playing some parkour and stealth and be like man just when i thought i was getting better i come and see these vids and realise how bad i am 😅

Hey, I've played Mirage and finished the game. This was my experience. The compact environment got me immersed in the city, and for the first half of the story, about 10 hours deep in the game I really liked the game, but towards the end I got pretty annoyed by: the clunky movement which eventually will be fully experienced and you'll have moments like "Dude, what the hell", subpar stealth(from the way you kill enemies up to the way enemies interact with you) and subpar combat(really stupid combat, you can say that the combat was a school made project). Story was at most mediocre, just like the game, the protagonist was okay, but the whole narative plan didn't keep me on my toes, the only highlight I've ever experienced was the assasination someone(don't want to spoiler things), the skill tree was very lacking. Why I complain about the stealth, because you can get away with only just knives, the game doesn't really compel to use other things unless it specifically says like in most contracts that target should be killed through environmental methods. The enemy types are lacking, clearly they haven't even cared about this, one meelee, one big melee, one melee with a bow and one tougher melee with dual blades or something like that, I can't even remember this type since it was a rare encounter. The civilians notifying the guards when they see a criminal action taking place right before their eyes is great, too bad the guards take so long to arrive that it doesn't matter. The notoriety system is also great, too bad the civilians rarely notice you and you can even sometimes if not most of the time to just rip your wanted posters in front of the guards. The only thing that I can say I really like about the game, besides the city is the pickpocketing system, otherwise there would be nothing good about the game. Mirage is indeed a bad game that feels like an DLC that asks for a full price game. Price should've been at most 20 euros not 50. Save your money and just go buy something like Odyssey or Origins(if you really care about the world exploration) or even older ACs(if you want some better stealth mechanics or need to fulfill your nostalgia) since this game is a complete mess. Trust me, by the end or midway, you'll regret speding your money on this unfinished and unthought product, just read other reviews.
My favorite Mirage stealth vid
Not going to lie, watching you use Assassin's focus has made me reconsider my opinion on its inclusion in the game. It looks really cool.
However, I must admit to being extremely disappointed to learn that they have decided to bring back the mercenary-hunting-you-down nonsense. Is there any way to bring them back to a patrolling state like in Valhalla, or are they locked into hunting mode forever? I really prefer being able to decide when I take on the higher-level enemies, and not have them magically see me through walls and stuff and know my exact location as though they had a sonar...
It's only if you have max notoriety. Bring it down and you're fine I think. It's also not hard to keep your notoriety down in this game
They're like AC Rogue's strong enemies, which only appear on the highest notoriety. Reducing you criminal activities, just like we did in the Ezio games, can avoid them. Or you can kill them and reset your notoriety.

Stealth is by far the best aspect and you can customise your gear/smokes/knives to your own play style (for those who don’t know you have upgrades for throwing knives for example where you can have like longer range etc) extremely cool and you can find what works for you.
Nah the stealth isn't great. We are living in 2023. There needs to be more in stealth than just hiding in bushes and whistling. That shit is dated
@@themadtitan728but there is more to it. Play the damn thing.
@@the_seer_0421 yeah no. There's nothing more than some tools and the copy pasted animations. No freedom like hitman games
My mind was blown when you did a backflip and then use assassin focus 😮😮
Trickshots for days
just a little tip, change your running button from left stick to RT/R2 hold, it makes me feel faster for whatever reason and like the original games, love the game, love you’re videos
Thanks!
duuudddeeeee that leap to focus was sickkkk
;)
Bro you absolutely killed this clip. Great moves!
Thanks man!
Soo cool and now we will get to see you make tons of videos of stealth assassinating everyone
Tons and tons of videos

Lowkey im kinda dissapointed with it
Looks cool.
I’ll probably buy it in a year or two after the price drops to at least $30.
Thats fair
Dude!!! This content/gameplay/run is GOD status! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Edit: By the way, this just proves that this game is chef's kiss!
Wow, thanks!
@@AltairStealth I believe it's necessary to throw praise where it's deserved my friend.
Cant wait to play it by myself. Looks awesome with this stealth
Hope u like it homie
Hell ya an altair stealth video on mirage already! Show us what you can do with this game man!
😎😎
Altaïr and Ezio outfits cost units and I don’t have enough😩
Play the game you can earn some!
@@AltairStealth true but it feels like leveling up your account takes forever idk why I just earned some units and it felt like a long time to get them
Wow... there are no other words spinning in my head
I cannot stop playing

My copy will arrive tomorrow and I think it will be the same for me too, but in your opinion how replayable are the stealth zones in terms of strategy and skills?
This should've been the Assasin's Creed last few years
Yes
I am about 13 hours into Mirage and I am in love with the gameplay. The story is okay so far, though I like the mystery and philosophical complexity behind it. The gameplay though is where this game shines for me, even with the simplistic parkour, it's so fluid and fast that I don't even care. My only gripe is, from what I could tell, it doesn't have that little detail Origins had where about 1/3 of the guards go to sleep at night, making stealth easier at night
I am in love with the story too tbh
Babe wake up Altair Stealth uploaded Mirage gameplay.😴😴😴
*Altair Stealth Gameplay*😯😳😯 my goat my Assassin Master, I look up to you as any growing Assassin to make everything I do look as cool as you do.
So kind lad
I SAID WE HAD TO TRUST UBISOFT🗣️🗣️🗣️
Trust ubsioft to never actually implement brand new gameplay mechanics and make their game look like it's from 2010? Yes, you can trust them on that
@@themadtitan728the game looks hella good on 2k, and thats all they could do using valhalla engine, you weren't promissed anything new except a new map story a little bit more parkour, more stealth and more parkour areas, not a whole new engine so stfu nicca
@@noobigun1454 its a cashgrab nothing else
The one thing i hate about mirage is they shouldve added the style of double assassinations like unity even though arno has one blade, BUT WE HAVE A DAGGER NOW! So even better
I agree double assassinations wouldve been nice
1:50 looks like a scene that has been cut from a high budget film. Honestly ac mirage looks to me like the perfect ac game!
Its a beauty
“Never a guard around when you need one…”
lol
Damn you already mastered the game🔥
;)
Between this and Origins, I really wouldn’t mind a new Prince of Persia game
Hahaha me neither
The big win for me is that they actually have basims outfit from valhalla that outfit is 🔥
And it looks great
Watching this makes me want to buy it even more
Dew it
Genuinely thinking of picking this up. Looks like they kept things simple and focused on world design and stealth above all else. It honestly could be a huge win, especially if they add in some replayability later on.
Definitely worth it
A lot of people say that the parkour isnt great, but seems to me the parkour situation is pretty similar to the Unity situation, yea parkour is great in Unity too but there’s still some parkour moves in Unity (like wall eject) which people dont really use much, because it isnt always convenient to, and its pretty situational. As someone who still plays Unity up to this day, seeing actual parkour gameplay of this game I can say that its overall better than that in Unity, though Unity’s is better in some areas and worse in others. Its just that people complain about not having parkour but then most of them dont even use the agility of parkour in game.
People are finding out its actually decent
Mirage”s stealth is the best since syndicate and unity in my opinion and the world is beautiful
I agree
Just realized that in the beginning of the story, Hadya tells him if he thinks he can become the next Gilgamesh. And according to stories, Gilgamesh has one very close friend whose name is Enkidu, same as the name of Basim's Eagle. Nice touch to the details by the creators of the game.
They pay a lot of attention to detail
w dev team all they need to do now is mo cap the cutscenes add a cover system and add ejects to the parkour
They need a bigger budget
@@AltairStealth if they got an opportunity to make a new engine it would be amazing
Not even a week and you've mastered its mechanics
😂😂
