I have two younger siblings and my parents did the same. I finally understand now lol. I have a house rabbit named Sébastien & a cat named Obake. I get their names mixed up.
My eldest aunt managed me to call me Luciana (my aunt/her sister), Lizandra (my aunt/her sister) then Larissa (my cousin/her niece), until she finally got my name. Lol
As someone who works on set, because you're always referring to the names in the script, i.e. the director would say 'If we go from where Sam enters whilst Dean is talking to Cas', or the costume department would talk about 'Sam's' costume, this means that on set you can spend the day with all departments referring only to character names and not actors. I've been on productions where I've forgotten actor's names because i only know their character names. Supporting characters for sure! The actors are always sooooo much better at remembering each other's actual names because they don't have headsets, and they hang about and talk to the other actors in the green room whilst the crew is just reading the script and referring to characters names to liaise with each other all day. Though when the actors get on set and the entire crew is referring to them as Sam and Dean and Cas, to hear that but then in the next breath call each other their real names - well, it can all get muddled. Then having to refer to their characters as their own names in The French Mistake... that's a whole new level of confusion.
The French Mistake is easily my favorite episode of the entire series. There's been some pretty great and memoriable episodes before and since, but this one sticks out as a *chefs kiss* episode
I love that Jensen just goes with everything. Jared calls him Jensen and he still continues with the seen and runs after the guy. Jared and Misha skip a whole scene and Jensen just picks up from wherever. Priceless.
This is one of many reasons why Supernatural is a iconic TV-show. A cult-like. Everything is done with love for the industry and respect for fans, every season is unique and has it's own theme and the lads... Jared, Jensen, Misha, Matt, Richard, Rob, Jim and all the cast, they are sweet people in real life, and as far as i know, the keep contacts with each other. SPN may not have as much views as Game of Thrones, they don't have as much money, but the narrative, characters and atmosphere of Supernatural is far stronger than seasons 2&3 of GOT (the best seasons of GOT in my opinion). Even at the last season SPN hasn't lost it's cool vibe, unlike the season 8 of GOT, which was a universal mess. Overall: Supernatural will always have a special place in my heart and i'm actually quite dissatisfied that it will end. I understand that every thing has to end someday, but i really think they can make some high quality content for at least another five seasons.
I agree with you, to an extent. It's kind of repetitive. Like every season has a villain, every season is about annihilating that specific villain, but sometimes that villain gets a pass like Rowena, or Crowley and idk ... like the whole angel demon thing went on for like 2 seasons. Angels are still shady. Tbh I miss the first season episodes where it was just Sam and Dean dealing with random ghosts and stuff. But I also think that would become boring over time. Anyways, it's been a long running show, it needs to end so the guys can finally spend time with their families. They deserve a rest.
They'll have peace when they are done. But not for long, as Jared is doing a walker texas ranger reboot and jensen is going back with Eric Kripke to do The Boys season 3 as Soldier Boy, which is basically captain america, the FIRST hero back from WWII in The Boys series.
Don't get me me wrong, I have a guilty love for the show but almsot every season follows the plot of "[character] dies, Sam and/or Dean must revive their comrade, stop the new apocalypse they started last season, and in doing so, a new apocalypse is triggered for next season."

Since the beginning it's like their roles was written especially for them, using aspects of their personality in ''real'' life. When I started watching the show and being a big Gilmore Girls fan, it was so difficult to assimilate that Jared was Sam, he was Dean not so long ago and now Dean was someone else! I kept confusing the characters names for a bit there...
I am in denial. I don't want this show to ever end. These guys are like family. Been watching it in the darkest and happiest moments of my live and actually have lost count of how many times I've rewatched the series. It never gets boring. It's very sad that the show is ending. And I just hope that these guys will bring many more great shows to us, true fans :)

I honestly don't know how I'll be able to see them in different roles. They've been doing this for 15 years! To put that in perspective Jared was 23 and Jensen was 27 when they filmed the pilot episode, they're 38 and 42! They just... Fit the roles so perfectly that it just feels weird to see them as anything other than Sam and Dean. I hope it doesn't make their careers difficult.
