    Proper prog. Prog and jazz have to be the most difficult to master, not just playing chords in and out of scales and timings it’s beautiful

      True, but don't forget classical also. Paganini, Liszt, Ysaye, these 3 wrote some of the most difficult pieces of all time.

    Great little video. I've been mostly using jazz piano videos to learn to be a better keyboardist and it occurred to me that I am not really a jazz player and am way more interested in prog music (it's more similar to what I make, anyway) and so searched and found this. Instant Keith Emerson vibes! Exactly what I was looking for. Great playing and explanation. Seems like total wizardry at first but after breaking it down into pieces I actually was able to play it within about 15 minutes and I do not consider myself good at all. Many thanks!

    I'm glad I found these videos. I'm starting to completely understand how Final fantasy music is constructed. It's all prog rock modal interchange. Breaking it down with the harmony and scales made everything come together. Love it!

    Well explained, very well played - but why do you perform a *keyboard* riff on an muddy sounding upright piano? How about a sampled grand or organ (having Keith Emerson in mind) on a keyboard?

    excellent lesson! just a tip on how easly to figure out a dim scale on any tone, as two minor scale tetrachords a tritone away. while inverted dim scale is the same, but counting minor tetrachords half step from the root.

    do you have any harmonic reason to use that Eb minor in relation with the other modes?

    • @TheBideau
      @TheBideau  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No specific reason other than the "colour" it creates. I like exploring other composers's techniques to step out of my comfort zone..Stravinsky used to do a lot of these harmonic juxtapositions to get some interesting effects.

    Which is the time signature?

    • @TheBideau
      @TheBideau  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Amandio. It can be thought of in 4/4 with the Left Hand accents in unusual parts of the measure(s)
      The second half of the riff starts exactly on a 1st beat of a 4/4 bar

    What made you decide on the whole half instead of half whole when switching from a phryg, which has a min 2nd? For contrast or because the w-h dim doesn't contain a maj 3 as well?

    • @TheBideau
      @TheBideau  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was just an arbitrary decision, because of its sound.
