Excellent storytelling - I was on the edge of my seat, neglecting to sew the buttons in hand whilst I listened raptly. And though I know a great many folktales and medieval tales, I did not know this one, and am glad to have a new story brought to my ear.
English Heritage you're on to a winner with your conception of bringing from the past recipes, tales and characters. And Mrs. Crocombe is amazing whatever era you put her in.
